Would Current Conservatives Like Jesus if They Met Him Today

He is a fairly dark skinned guy called Jesus. They would want him to go back to the country he came from because America is for rich white guys.

Also, he would be seen as an evil worldly liberal, for his teachings of loving everyone (not just rich white guys) and helping the poor. Jesus would not vote Republican.

A dark-skinned Middle Eastern guy, wearing robes and sandals, hanging out with the whores and poor people, preaching peace and love?

They'd absolutely hate Him.

Like the saying goes if God had a house christians would break all his windows. The problem is everyone has their own jesus the one they have made in their minds so jesus would never be what people have seen or believed. So they would see him as an impostor and attack him. Just look how fundies latch onto someone they think represents God. Is gothard or pat Robertson like jesus? So I think it would not be because he preaches love and all but that he is not the jesus people picture.

That's true, they would have Him crucified again.

This. It's like (if you can compare that) some fans have a very specific conception of their idol (whether it's an actor, a popstar and so on), and many of them would be very surprised if they could actually get to know this person personally and privately.

We really don't know all that much about Jesus, and what we know has been written down by other people.

I'm pretty sure many conservatives would dislike him if they met him today.

We see this so much in movie star worship or in the fundy world people like gothard or the tool are all worshipped and then fall far short

Would they even know Jesus if he was standing before them?

(not snark, the most serious thing I believe I have ever posted on FJ)

No.

Signed, a self-identified Christian

I don't think.

But I don't think for liberals/modern also. I've read two gospels (Luke and Mark) and Jesus did not looks like the a good, sweet, peacefull, man.

By the reverse, I don't think Jesus would like them either. Too much like those Pharisees he was always rebuking for being hypocritical and unloving.

Of course not. He would be the most hated man by conservative evangelicals. Says this liberal evangelical Christian.

That's an excellent question for believers to keep in mind- would ANY of us know Him if he was standing in front of us? One thing's for sure, if I ever do go looking for Him, I'll be looking amongst the homeless, the addicts, the illegal immigrants, and the poverty-stricken, not the conservatives and the fundies.

This. I think both fundies and liberals have their own Jesus pictures (which of course don't match at all), and I think both of them (together with all of us) would be in for a suprise if he showed up today.

Don't forget that he'd be considered a commie/socialist/pinko.

Assuming they didn't immediately try to have him committed for religious delusions, of course. I mean, wouldn't that be your first reaction?
