I can't imagine that he would be staying with the Bates because of their shows. Would TLC want Joseph on a competitor network show? Would UP want their stars on TLC? If he is staying with them, I would bet on a lot of creative editing and flat out lying.

It could be seen as free promotion on the UP network for the Duggars' show.

so he just went to a school that is just an extension of his parents. Really makes me wonder if this is just to make them look better?

I honestly think that's all it is. I would be floored if he was allowed to go to a real, secular community college.

Since I am a jaded fundie watcher, I was wondering if Crown College has an online program. Could Joseph just be studying from home? Crown College is in Tennessee but could he still be in Arkansas? Anyway, if it is true, why was Joseph chosen as the one who gets to be a semi-adult in a sheltered, controlled environment? I swear I have seen so little of him that I forget he exists. I guess Jinger and Jana are not worthy of learning more than cooking, cleaning and waiting for Daddy to pick their husband.

Not trying to sound like a asshole but I don't see many blacks or Hispanics or Asians at these type of colleges anyway. And why can't interracial couples date? Why does it need to be approved?

I looked through some pics on the site, and found a pic with an Asian girl, and my heart ached that she's separated out and has to get permission from a bunch of parents to date. I can't blame racial minorities for pretty much all running from schools like that if their kids are segregated and have to hope a white person's parents aren't KKK-supporters.

I don't believe Jim Bob makes major decisions based on negative comments on internet forums. He's a fundamentalist, he expects to be persecuted. Negative comments are just proof to him that he's on the right path. If anything, I think he's letting one of his kids go to college now because he's realized it's not financially feasible to expect them all to become used car salesmen, or magically go into trades without any further education or apprenticeship.

What jobs can a degree at Crown college provide? At least is he were serious about making sure his sons get jobs he would check for accredited schools or at least make sure his money is well spent. There are many accredited christian colleges. And didn't Josiah attend Alert for like two years?

Probably because the school doesn't want to get sued by racist parents for not properly supervising their little purebred darlings (think Malfoys).

This raises all sorts of interesting questions. How is "race" defined in this context? If one student has a white mother and a black father and his date has a black mother and a white father, are they allowed to date? If one has an African American grandparent is it okay for him to date white girls? Or is 25% enough to keep him in the black pool? My college roommate was half Korean and half Irish and had red hair, blue eyes and freckles. Do appearances matter? Who would someone like this be allowed to date? Is a very dark-skinned Pakistani who is technically Caucasian allowed to date white girls? Or must he stick with someone with a similar skin tone?

We could go on like this all night. I'm sure the good folks at the Clown don't encounter these sorts questions too often, but it would be fun to visit them with my high school age daughter and inquire. I wonder how many heads would explode in confusion before we were escorted to the door.

I think BJU had this rule then abolished it. I think it's stupid. You can't help who you fall in love with. Grown adults getting permission to date especially date another race is just absurd. It's like taking people back 60 years ago.Do students of opposite ethnicities share the same dorms or classrooms? Can they sit near each other? Is it like PCC and they can't look at each before they make eye babies. Well that's what happens when fundie schools are run by fundie people. I wonder if they think they're superior to other schools or people.

I'm beginning to wonder if Joseph is interested in either Tori (isn't she attending CC?) or Carlin Bates. JB needs to marry off some of his kids to fundie royalty. And I'm sure the CC rules could be bent for fundie royalty like JB (who has the money) and Gil (who is on the IBLP BoD).

Maybe Joseph started mid-year so he'll have a semester for prerequisites. Would SOTDRT and bible memorization at ALERT be adequate preparation for Crown?

If sitting by someone at a meal counts as a date, does that mean they need written permission to sit by someone of a different race? :pink-shock:

Just curious, on what grounds could they possibly be sued by idiotic parents? I mean, those are adult students (I suppose most students there are 18 and over) who can choose to hang out with whoever they want. Legally, it's none of their parents business who they are dating or getting married to.

For all the negative aspects of Crown College O' the Bible, I hope Joseph is attending in person, because all these Duggarlings need some sort of SCHEDULE that gets their LAZY asses out of bed!! [except Josiah, he got plenty of that at ALERT]

PS Props to the person who mentioned Johnson Bible College. I'm from across the state line in Western NC, and we used to make fun of that school for being so bible-thumpy!

By the way, Crown also offers a 1 year (2 semester) "Certificate of Christian Life" http://thecrowncollege.com/academics/ch ... rtificate/

So Joseph, or any Duggar, could go do that. Take some bible classes, meet some appropriate students of the opposite sex...

Think of it as fundy "finishing school" !

I am not familiar with the concept of this kind of Christian Colleges, but they strike me as odd - so maybe somebody could tell me:

Are this Colleges part of any kind of umbrella organization? Are they solely private funded or are they also "half-public"/public?

To which kind of regulations do they have to answer, regarding the Curriculum or general campus rules?

For example, the rule about dating (or gawdforbid interracial dating!). Is this even legal? Could they impose such a rule, because "FU that´s OUR College and OUR property, we could do whatever we damn want to do here...!"

How does that work, who oversees them?

I just realized that throughout my entire time here at FJ, I've been looking at the wrong Crown College. :embarrassed:

I googled and clicked the first link which is a private Christian college (in Minnesota, apparently). I was wondering what I was missing because my (obviously not very thorough) look through the Minnesota Crown College revealed a very conservative, Christian school, but certainly not "parental permission for interracial dating" crazy.

I think it is something to make them look better (JB and M), BUT I think it is a great opportunity for Joseph...he's away from home!!

I agree. I suspect part of this is damage control for all the articles lately about how the Duggars don't let their kids go to college. Plus it's probably a new storyline for the show.

To have a child never misbehave only because he/she had no opportunity to do so, is a pretty shallow victory. To have a child chose to behave because they made a choice, using Free Will, to behave in a certain way, is so much more meaningful.

Great post and I totally agree, especially with this comment!

It shocks me how little the Duggars trust their kids! Even into their twenties! C'mon ...if you believe you raised them properly and that they believe and honour your values, then you don't need to make sure they have an AP and restrict their access to outside influence in every way possible.

OMG until just now I thought that did say disciplining young men. In fact, I read it to my 3 teenage sons so they could laugh/shudder/recoil in horror with me. I will have to tell them mom is just illiterate.

LOL! I read the article on Starcasm this morning and that line jumped out at me. I couldn't believe he said that! Not very bizarre! I'm not even going to mention that images that popped into my heathen head when I read that. LOL

It's Crown College vs. THE Crown College. Sort of like Ohio University and THE Ohio State University lol.

"Interacially dating must be approved in writing and verbally by the parents of both students"

:pink-shock:  :cray-cray: Can they really do a rule like that? I live in Germany I am quit sure that is not possible here.

It's a private school, they can make whatever rules they want, usually this is held in check by accreditation or heck, even reputation but they aren't accredited and that's exactly the reputation they want.

The more I think about, the weirder this choice is. Joseph always struck me more of a tradesman kind of guy rather than a studious college person. To hear all this about how he loves the Lord and reading his Bible and discipling young men... ugh.. that part annoys me to no end... how much can he disciple others when he's still wet behind the ears.

I truly doubt that Joseph is at CC because he has some burning desire to get a college education or become a minister or missionary. I think this is another choice made to keep the cameras rolling.

I agree that JB won't make any decisions based on Internetz. He will, however, understand he needs to retain the appeal he has and *something* had to happen, two weddings and that can be checked off. Grandkid on the way, one check, can possibly milk grandbaby for one or two more but we've already got the cute Josh kids, Jill supplied from the daughter angle, soon that will be old news by Jill's second child. Jessa's first might get some ratings but after that no one will care about any more Duggar grandbabies except to mention the sheer number of them.

Courting is done, now something has to happen to keep people tuning in. W e were treated to Jill and whoever that was dental treatments, I mean all the ordinary life that could be interesting as far as Duggar day-to-day has already happened with the older children. No one is going to care about going to the dentist or getting glasses.

I would totally believe JB and/or M said, Joseph you have to go to college and so off to Crown you go.

That's what I thought, it's bound to be illegal here. I can't think of a law that would apply off the top of my hat, but there has to be one :?

And this is why racist Republicans like the FRC are in trouble of being voted into oblivion. :stir-pot: To the FRC et al: Welcome to the real world. They have their heads up their own lily-whites so far that they can't see actual reality.

Maybe Verhetzung or a similar paragraph in the Grundgesetz? Imho it´s borderline to the Verbotsgesetz.

Crown College's auto repair school could be 10-18 months, and it would probably cost about $14K to complete, even with accreditation. Joseph would then be prepared to do computer assessments and repairs of most makes/models of cars. Not sure if all the expensive ones are included there.

One of my sons was interested in trade school two years ago. He chose HVAC; it was a 10 month course, and it cost $17K. (We live in the mid-Atlantic region.) They also had electrical trades, auto and big rig repair and truck driving school, priced similarly. I'd say any of these (minus truck driving, no on the road accountability) would suit a Duggar boy. No chance of seeing a vagina there..

Bingo - you just nailed it on the head :nenner: :nenner: :nenner:

because how many times after the wedding of both daughters can you show going to the eye doctor, the doctor, building race cars etc with the howlers - Joe was hardly ever on the show - so he gets his own storyline :P

Good for them if they are sending him to college and actually showing a bit of filming it.

Progression
