Ah, Jim Bakker. Still grifting after all these years.

I do so miss Tammy Faye. :( I don't approve of the practice of keeping pet fundies, but if I did, it would have been Tammy Faye.

I

yep but he owes so much in taxes that he has to rip off (excuse me beg in the name of god) that he can't begin to pay it all back. wonder if he will scam again.

According to Jim and Lori's website, JimBakkerShow.com, the survival necessities include clothing, water and all kinds of packaged food supplies, mostly dried foods and powders. $1000 will buy you 10 buckets of beans and two buckets of tomato flakes. And for an additional $10 they'll throw in the bucket opener!

I didn't care for Tammy Faye at first but over the years following the scandal I learned more about her and grew to actually like her in spite of her fundie background and past association with PTL. She was really ahead of the times in her support of LGBT rights.

ETA: Both Bakker and Tammy's second husband both owe back personal income taxes from the PTL era. Bakker's ministry post-jail is much smaller, he's not racking in the bucks like before and while he's probably not living as ostentatiously (sans air-conditioned doghouse) he's probably not given up all the perks in life either. It's probably taking him forever to pay it off, so that he might scam again? Yeah a real possibility.

I just don't understand how people are still buying what this guy is selling. Just can't wrap my head around that at all.

Maybe one of the things he's banking on (no pun intended) is that the old folks who gave to him were ripped off by him are not around anymore and others being too young to remember. And there's the whole prepper thing. People might be too worried about preparing for economic disaster to worry about this guy's history.

I always liked Tammy Faye . I think Jim Bakker demanded too much from her but she stood by his side when he got into all that trouble. Finally she came to her senses and got rid of the bum. Tammy wasn't prejudiced and she loved gays and they loved her. JmJ Bullock and she had a successful tv show for a while and she became good friends with him. She even became good friends with Porn King Ron Jeremy when they were on a tv show together. Tammy wasn't judgmental. She loved everyone. Jim Bakker hurt her badly especially because he broke up their family with his dalliances with Jessica Hahn. Now Bakker has this new family with a woman who saw dollar signs when she hooked up with him. Forget his own Son and Daughter. Its widely known Jamie Bakker Jims son and Jim don't get along and daughter Tammy Sue keeps her distance. They couldn't forgive Jim for making Tammy Fayes life a living hell, Jamie especially. Jim Bakker is back to hawking Jesus and Survivalist Products duping the public once again. He may have his hawking business in Branson but he lives in North Carolina in a large beautiful home that he owns that he bought with followers money they donated. He's a big ass scumbag.

I'm trying to figure out the reason one would need enemas in a prepper survival kit. Especially if you bought the beans, too.

I used to secretly watch PTL Club as a kid just because I got such a kick out of Tammy Faye. It had to be in secret, because my mother was terrified I'd end up joining the Club. Little did she know I was just a little snarker in training. But Tammy Faye always seemed a kind, if totally daffy, soul.

I like their son Jay as well. Thoughtful, intelligent man. Hard to believe he's the spawn of Jim Bakker.

Ah, my favorite televangelist! Looks like Jim wrote a book last year about "epic events ahead" from Revelation. This is from one of his Amazon reviews: "Jim has been a pretrib minister. Was sincerely surprised to read he had changed his opinion. Hope it isn't to sell his survivalist foods." Oopsie. I guess you need a lot of beans for Revelation. And to pay off millions you owe the IRS. Not a bad business strategy, I would guess.

His son had a reality show I loved, One Punk Under God, and runs a church now called Revolution NYC that is definitely very far from daddy's viewpoints.

Jim's been at it for a while, living in Branson MO with his new blonde wife and a batch of foreign adopted kid, but it looks like those kids grew up. He has condos, campgrounds, tv and his show is on Roku. jimbakkershow.com/

He's been out of jail for decades.

Back in the 80s, whenever my sister and I got bored with the videos on MTV, we would flip to the PTL network to see what Jim and Tammy were up to. I liked Tammy; she had a good heart. Heritage USA actually looked like a fun place to visit, especially the water park.

Highly recommended reading-- Jay Bakker's book "Son of a Preacher Man."

Back in 1984 a VBS teacher said how the material we were using was fake like Jim Baker and Tammy Fayer.3 years later I about died laughing when I all of this came out and remembered her saying they were fake.

May I ask why post all these articles that are sensationalist and inaccurate?

Bakker was imprisoned in 1989 and paroled five years later. This means he has been out since 1993. He's not "back" he's been back a heckuva long time - he didn't just get out of prison.

No idea how he has much credibility with anybody but this Jerry Crawford guy is letting Bakker broadcast from Morningside Church, which this Mail Online reporter somehow seemed to miss this very obvious piece of information and inaccurately reports the church belongs to Bakker. But that is not what Bakker's own website says.

It gets discouraging to read these posts with articles that are so misleading. I can read National Enquirer at the store checkout.

I didn't get the impression that Jim Bakker had a church; it was the fact that a guy with a hugely troubled past who stole millions is now hawking outrageously priced survivalist food and clothes as "Love Gifts" to the gullible that is newsworthy. He's had the Jim Bakker show since 2003.

Last year he wrote a book called Time Has Come: How to Prepare Now for Epic Events Ahead which I'm sure the gullible will consume as well, become fearful and order "Love Gifts" from Jim and Lori.

He is also financially involved in the Morningside development/community near Branson. However, with money still owed to the IRS, he can't own much outright.

(Thanks, wikepedia)

Thanks for the tip! He was in the National Enquirer!!!!! :o Might I point out the National Enquirer was two years ahead of us in this amazing development for mankind. (WARNING: really gross and NSFW and about enemas and from National Enquirer).

Is this misleading too? Is he bringing enemas back? Or have those always been in too, like Jim?

Thank you, thank you, thank you, the National Enquirer article is a scream. Wonder if anyone is actually buying this stuff? Time of Tribulation Beans? Really?

Also, I like that the National Enquirer is wonderfully cynical.

Exactly my opinion of Tammy Faye. I was a young teen when I got my first glimpse of the PTL Club because I think it was being carried on cable and we didn't have cable until probably 1980 or so. I always thought she was just a horrible drama queen and her makeup was just astounding to me (which is part of what made me watch!). But when they fell, I couldn't have cared less -- yet another scandal involving sex and money and greed.

But a few years ago I had reason to do a little research on her and found all sorts of interviews with her and I think finally pieced together the real story. I had a lot of empathy for her. She had a backbone and she came back from a horribly public situation, even survived cancer for a very long time (but it eventually got her in the end). She always kept her head held high for what Jim dragged her through, and she always maintained her belief in her God, and I have a lot of respect for that.

Jim is a jerk. I would love to know how successful he is this time around. I'd hoped he'd gone away, but I guess not.

Jim Bakker is proof that feces float. He always reminded me of a weasel, even when I saw PTL as a child. Tammy Faye was always cuckoo, but had some redeeming qualities.
