Short version: Yoga pants are evil. If you work out in them, you are tempting other men trying to work out. Men need you to wear skirts to work out in. Mr. M says so.

Sorry, but I'm not taking advice from a grown-ass woman who color coordinates what she and her husband wear to church and the gym.

Why doesn't her husband tell her that her striped top fails the four-finger test? Because it does, and it's taking away from her countenance.

Apparently the article was so inane that my computer wouldn't even open it.

But - I hope she dresses modestly in the gym - which means skirt to ankles and at least 3/4 length sleeves.

Note - there is a Muslim woman in my gym who wears a full-length covering over her long sleeve work-out top and pants, along with a head covering, but aside from wondering how she doesn't collapse from heat exhaustion, I don't give her a second glance because I know it's her culture, not an attention grabbing ploy. And she doesn't look at the rest of us like we're godless heathens for wearing shorts.

Good on her for exercising in a way that she feels comfortable doing... but I wonder if she would feel more comfortable working out in a Womens Only gym. As far as I know, in female spaces Muslims are allowed to take off their veil.

Actually, it is an all women's gym. I wonder about the veil in particular; the ones she wears are beautiful but sometimes heavily beaded or sequined and I can't imagine having that extra weight on my sweating head. But she Zumbas along with the rest of us! :D

"But the level of their lust is directly related to how much of our bodies is available to lust after. The less we advertise, the less opportunity we give them to covet our bodies."

I almost stopped reading after this part. I have been blessed with, shall we say, a distinctly womanly figure. By the time I was in junior high, I was in a dd cup. My waist was almost waspish with big round hips and solid thighs. I was the very definition of hourglass (still am, but I have more than a few hours in that glass now, lol). And there was pretty much NO way that I could dress to cover up my shape. I couldn't find a button-down shirt that didn't gape unless I wore shirts several sizes too big. And just about EVERY shirt was low-cut on me unless it went all the way to my neck.Even turtlenecks looked vaguely vulgar because they stretched tight over my breasts. Skirts were just as bad. Elastic waistbands made my hips look just that much bigger, pleats moved suggestively around my legs, and pencil skirts were absolutely a no-go thanks to my round heinie. My mom finally just put me in homemade jumpers all the time, and those made me look dumpy and lumpy and friends would make fun of me for being fat even though I really wasn't. My body was apparently pornographic and dirty, and its mere existence was supposedly enough to cause my brothers in Christ to stumble.

I wish just once that someone had bothered to tell me that not all men are attracted to my specific body type, that not all men would rather objectify me than see me as a human, and that what I wore couldn't stop anyone from lusting if he or she really wanted to. I wish that just once that someone had told me that I was fearfully and wonderfully made just as I was. I have body hangups to this day because of how shamed I was over my shape, which at that time was entirely out of my control.

I hear you, polecat. Having big boobs, being tall and long waisted, all of these things caused me to be yanking at my clothing when I was younger and before I learned to sew clothing that, with space added in, gave me decently fitted items that were modest yet attractive. I always felt like such a large ugly lump next to all the little girls who bought off the rack. I heard so many "headlight" jokes in high school I wanted to take baseball bats to people's heads. But hear this: you ARE fearsomely and wonderfully made, and you sound like someone I'd have a girl crush on. I'd love to share patterns with you. All those extra hours will give us more time to sew.

That sounds like fun! :)

And *hugs* I hear you on feeling like a lump, but you're beautifully unique and just the way you should be.

I just hope she's wearing lightweight, breathable fabrics so she doesn't get overheated. Though if she's always dressed that way, she might have an especially impressive heat tolerance...

Sorta/kinda OT:

To ALL of you - regardless of your body shape - (and not that my words mean that much, but I still want to say...)

You are BEAUTIFUL JUST THE WAY YOU ARE! Please own these words.

I'm a BC survivor, and having lived with the resulting changes to my own body - that's partly why I feel so strongly about this.

My best friend wears hijab and, as a rule, she only takes it off in the presence of family and other women.

Well, for the most part, Muslim women in the west elect to wear it. Anecdotally speaking, my friend started wearing her hijab when women in France started facing persecution for it.

Do the fundie women who exercise outside of the home use women's gyms for the most part?
