Socialism is EBEL [Paging Burris!]

The stoopid here runs right into the comments as usual. OMG! How dare the state ask us to show that we have an actual bedroom built for the children we want to adopt?! It's so unfair! And..and...my husband works so hard and they take his MONEY TO FEED PEOPLE. Well, I never.

I won't even add how Miss Meth Brows has had her house re-built, but she mouths off about the evils of Socialism. Hey Fundies! What say you stay off my roads and out of my libraries and you don't freakin' vote? How would that be?

So the state has children they want you to adopt yet they are the ones making it so difficult!

OMG! The state provides a small budget for food needs when we foster - but we said we want to adopt them, and they said we'd have to keep feeding them food! The state has children they need adopted but they make it so difficult! How very dare they insist that the children who were taken from neglect and abuse have measures to make sure they won't be permanently placed back into neglect and abuse!

I live in Australia and we are a completely socialist country. I would love to adopt from another country but because we have socialised health care, we can’t have more than four children in the home (that is just way too many children for anyone to care for properly!) and they have to be in absolute perfect health, lest they be a drain on our health system. ... ? Um, what? Australia has really strict measures on adoption, but I know of people who've adopted after they had four kids. ... Just, what?! Is this some medicare thing, they won't put a fifth kid on? Because if so, we've got private health funds - come on, vote with your wallet, show us how much you hate our socialised medicine.

That. is. fucking. insanity.

Boil it down to how it plays out in reality and we have the government actively training generations of citizens to stop thinking for themselves; to stop getting involved in each others lives; to stop believing diligent work is how to live; to stop taking responsibility for our own lives and choices and simply allow the government to ‘take care of us’.

No! Nooooooooooo! [My bold because wtf]

For a start we have a saying which is basically (with variations) the communist (or union organiser) should be the hardest worker. Honestly if I was going to accuse socialists of anything it would not be lack of a work ethic or not thinking people should be involved in each others' lives.

I may write a complete argument with this piece, it will be nothing like as clever as Burris does but I am fucking gobsmacked by the stupidity.

Okay, what?

I'm Australian, and I was adopted myself. That is total BS. Adoption laws are strict, but there's no rule about not being allowed to adopt more than 4 kids, or about only having 4 kids total, or about adoptive children needing to be in perfect health.

I was very sick as a baby. I was passed over by several couples who wanted a "perfect" child in perfect health. My parents adopted me with no issues and would have gone on to adopt more sick or handicapped children if they hadn't reached the age cut-off.

I daresay what they actually meant was 'They won't allow US to adopt, we have four kids and leave them in squalor.' But no, obviously it's not about THEIR standards, it's stupid Australia won't let anyone with four kids adopt! Shame on those socialists!

What bugs me is all of these "anti-socialism" people seem to think stuff like universal health care is all about "me, me, me". Yet they are the ones screaming "Mine, mine, mine" the loudest. Those of us, in Canada at least, who support universal health care, government funded schools, low-income housing, unemployment insurance, etc. aren't doing it because we think we deserve it. We support these things because we feel it is our responsibility to take care of those less fortunate! Kinda like what Jesus was talking about when he said "Whatsoever you do to the least of my people, you do unto me" (or some variation of such, depending on the translation you look at).

How can something like universal health care be selfish? A society's means have to be equally distributed for the vital needs of each. Going to the doctor, getting help when you're disabled, not being hungry, having a roof over your head and the heater on during the cold winter months are not luxuries. It's not a society if people don't care and thus don't take care...

Clearly ms. meth-brows has not been humbled one bit by the devastation of her home. She's still the same smug asshole she's always been. Shocking, I know.

I find it hilarious that people who are immersed in a fundamentalist religion feel like they can preach about the government teaching people not to think. Uh, no, that would be your ilk, Kelly.

I saw that yesterday but had to get away from the computer or else I'd have a heart attack. Those people are such bullshit. I want to tell them that they really make me think I can't live in the US permanently! If it is to live with people that I deserve to have bad health, economic struggles or whatever, because no one can tell them where the need is, obviously they have the capactiy to judge where the needs are on top of popping a kid every year and homeschooling the rest while commenting on blogs.

Just breathe.

This exactly! I think Jesus would totally be a socialist :D Why do these people who claim to be super mega ultra only good kind of Christian refuse to help the needy? Not only refuse, but call it eeeeevil? Isn't Christianity supposed to be about feeding the poor, and helping the weakest among us or something?

Of course, zoning, flu shots and basic health regs are socialist. Holy cow! It's everywhere we turn! *ugh*

Though, to be fair, Kelly didn't actually write this stuff. It's a guest post from another blogger. Still, Kelly did roll out the welcome mat to her. :naughty:

A lot of the crazies I know are all for helping the poor when churches or private individuals do it. Nevermind the fact that if all government services were taken over by private individuals it would be insanely inefficient and even more expensive than it already is. Nevermind the fact that most people just give or volunteer once per year or so so that they can get a nice gratitude high from their poor people pets who are supposed to adore them for their generosity. Yeah. Not a workable system, idiots.

Plus there's the whole aversion to putting yourself in someone else's shoes in any way whatsoever. It's all about separation and us vs. them. As soon as you take even a brief minute to consider the practical obstacles that the working and unemployed poor face, you should drop all that right wing bullshit.

I'm curious what this means:

"Kim from Canada, who blogs at Whatsoever I DO, with an “earned right†to talk about socialism shares a candid look at the reality of socialism…"

Earned right? Why/how? Does she have more of a right to speak of socialism than others?

I'm guessing because she lives in Canuckistan, the great frozen socialist threat to the north of God's own chosen country, the U. S. of A.

I just saw this latest screed over at Chez Meth Brows, and just knew my Jingerites would have a field day with it.

But is it just me, or is Kelly getting less and less comments? Are people finally seeing her for the self-serving, grifting asshole she truly is?

And probably vote for Harper or the Christian Heritage Party. Which, to most Canadians, would make her a laughing stock, but the republican Americans understand...
