Is anybody else as sick of "It's a wonderful life" as I am? I mean, don't get me wrong it's a great movie, but my dad watches it like every day and I feel like breaking the DVD

"It's a Wonderful Life" is, in my opinion, by far the most boring movie I have ever tried to watch. I do not understand the whole "its such a great movie!" deal.

I watched it for the first time when I was 16 (I'm 20 now) and I thought it was okay, but I've never had the urge to watch it again, same with A Christmas Story. I'd rather watch The Santa Clause with Tim Allen.

Piece of shit movie.

The Christmas Story is a bastardization of a worthy Gene Shepard short story. But with most of Genes blue collar, lower middle class biographical tales, it does have those ugly undercurrents of domestic violence, where everyone looks the other way.

There's a reason why the only Christmas movie I'll ever sit down for is National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.

"And when Santa gets his fat white ass down the chimney tonight, he'll find the jolliest bunch of assholes this side of the nuthouse!"

I completely agree, since for me it was ruined when it was shown all day practically during the season. Besides National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, another movie I'll sit down to watch is The Muppet Christmas Carol. I have to admit I'm glad my dad's DVD player is broken since the only copy of It's a Wonderful Life he has is on DVD.

To think I just found the thread with the link to "A Christmas Story" museum in Cleveland OH. Cringeworthy. I got a bigger kick out of the offshoot movie, "Ollie Hopnoodle's Haven of Bliss".

I do suggest you find a copy of "In God We Trust All Others Pay Cash". Its a good sample of his work and you will laugh out loud.

Gene was on the radio at night when I was I was growing up. I'd press my worthy little transistor radio to my ear and listen to him spin tales of Hobart Ind. Years later he came to my college and I was one of his handlers, and it was a joy to take him to an archetype NJ diner and later hear him talk about it on the radio. He had a great voice as good as Ken Nordine, who he sometimes appeared with.

That is exactly how I feel about A Christmas Story. Ugh.

I'm surprised that they didn't do the 24 hour A Christmas Story marathon this year. Or they did and I missed it. I do like the part where the kid is in the snowsuit and starts crying "I can't put my arms down!". Reminds me of my siblings and I when we used to wear those big puffy one piece snowsuits. You can barely move in those things!

I disliked everything Christmasy this year and managed to avoid every Christmas movie that is played during this time.

Guess I should update again? Frieda (Kiki, we renamed her) is here since the end of February 2021. She came with a bunch of problems, but is the best dog ever and is doing better every day. But we do now know how a dog with ptsd looks like. For real, not joking. If she is triggered during the day, she wakes up screaming at night. Not like dogs dream, but literally screaming. Other than that she went with us on countless trips, loves hiking and even cable cars. She is one heck of a fearless dog in situations who do not remind her of her old life.
My Grandpa passed away last May and I'm still grieving a lot. After sharing a house with my grandparents for over 30 years it is just horrible to lose one of them. Even though it was his decision and he got to go like he wanted. At home, in his bed during the night without doctors. He would have need more care and he did not want more care. So after turning 90 he decided to let go and became weaker and weaker.
In other news my dad stops working for good on April 1st. Retirement time. Keep my Mum and myself in your prayers. We really do not want him at home all the time. Haha!

I don't always make good decisions for myself due to severe depression but I did today actively decide not to do something that might have been detrimental for me and am very proud of myself.

Well, this is weird. At some point, recently, I broke my wrist. I had to get a Dexa-scan today (put it off for years) and along with some bone loss, damn I had it a few minutes ago… the results said, “Fracture risk is moderate, and the patient has a significant wrist fracture. Treatment is advised.”  my left wrist aches a little but not near as much as my back, feet, knees or fingers, damn RA. I have no idea how it happened. I haven’t fallen in 2 years, haven’t banged or bumped…  the dr will call tomorrow and we’ll get  this straightened out.

I got my stickers today after renewing my vehicle registration.
Just reminded me again how different Minnesota is from Iowa.  Since I didn't register my vehicle in January last year, I got a sticker for the month since all MN plates are made with JAN printed in the lower left hand corner.  They also require people to put stickers on both the front and back plates, as opposed to Iowa that just want's the single sticker on the rear plate.
Oh well, considering how MN is trying to move into the 2020s while Iowa is trying to lurch the fuck back to the 1840s, the type and number of license plate stickers is really a minor thing.
