When Jennifer Louise Lopez first saw the horrific anti-gay sign go up on The ATLAH Worldwide Missionary Church in her neighborhood in Harlem, she knew she had to take action.

Run by Dr. James David Manning, a man who has been outspokenly critical of the Obama administration and the progression of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) rights over the course of the past six years, the church made headlines in late February when religious leaders posted a polarizing sign that read "Obama has released the homo demons on the black man. Look out black woman. A white homo may take your man."

The church then later replaced the sign with one that read "Jesus would stone homos," along with "Stoning is still the law" and Bible verses Matthew 5:17-19, Deuteronomy 17:5-7, Leviticus 20:13 and John 8:1-11.

Sadly, I suspect someone will say this to one of these nutjob ministers/congregations and it will happen.

Actual stoning is not the law of the United States. Some states do have capital punishment, but not all do. In those states that do, stoning would almost certainly be considered cruel and unusual punishment and thus unconstitutional under the Eighth Amendment.

New York happens to be one of those states that does not have capital punishment. Their law was struck down by the courts.

I understand it is not the law. however, the nutjobs who call for old testament laws and stoning would see it as the government going against God's law.

Gary North, (Ron Paul's buddy) believes stoning for old testament sins should be the law of the land--and he is mild compared to some theonomists who seem to foam at the mouth about it. She got some aid at the door... if she had been at the right revival.. who knows what might have happened to her.

We can't assume that embarrassment or legalities will always protect people from zealots.
