Yeah We're In It Now

Winter Storm Olive has been through the Twin Cities area.  It started yesterday afternoon and by late afternoon it was coming down pretty good.  Looks like we'll be getting 10 to 16 inches of snow by tomorrow evening.  Here's a few photos I took last night and this morning.  I think I'll be staying home today and not doing too much.

Yeah We're Getting Hammered

And I don't mean hammered as in getting drunk either. NWS is expecting about a foot of snow around here. Right now it's not doing much of anything out.  Just cold and windy.  It'll be a good day to stay in tomorrow and just camp out at home.

Yeah It's Snowing

It was snowing most of the night so the ground was covered this morning. The local NBC station is saying probably 1 to 3 inches throughout Minnesota with about two inches in the Twin Cities. It's not going to be especially heavy but then you got all those idiots out there who forgot how to drive in winter weather.

Winter Storm Update

It's snowing out pretty good right now.  The NWS is saying we're going to get about 4 to 7 inches of snow over the next day or so.  According to the DOT the roads in the Twin Cities have some light snow on them but the roads are covered with snow and ice south of the metro. Pretty much sitting at home today and tomorrow and not doing too much.  Might walk over to the grocery store later today to get a few things but it's just a day to sit at home and just relax.

Winter Storm to Ring In the New Year

Looks like we're in for a few days of it now. It looks like I'm right at the freezing rain/heavy snow border here in the Twin Cities.  I got back to Minneapolis just as the weather was starting to hit today.  Glad I got back when I did.

Winter Storm Elliott

Over the past week we've had several inches of snow.  It cleared up Sunday but the temperature dropped like a rock these past few days. And we - along with most of the rest of the upper Midwest - are also getting hammered.  Right now one of the local stations is saying we'll get 4 to 8 more inches of snow  Plus blowing snow tomorrow and Friday.  Ugh. It's been snowing pretty steady over the course of the day.  This a photo I took by Target Center leaving work today. If the f

Winter Has Come For House Minnesota

"When people ask you what happened here, tell them that the North Remembers.  Tell them winter came for house Minnesota." I wonder if where I live in the Twins will get the six inches the NWS said we might get tonight.  Regardless it looks like Mother Nature decided to play catchup.

Warm Up Coming

It's cold and blustery out today.  The temperature is about 35° but it feels like it's half that right now.  Trucks on I-35 are having some issues because of the wind out in the open country.  In the coming days it's supposed to be a different story in both the Twin Cities and Dubuque.  Sunday it's supposed to be 63° in Minneapolis and 70° down in Dubuque.  Might get up into the 80s down in Dubuque next week and someone at work was saying she heard the Twin Cities might also hit the 80s nex

Twin Cities Had Just Over 80 Inches of Snow This Season

Here in the Twin Cities we broke the 80" marker for total snowfall, making it the 8th snowiest season on record. The most the Twin Cities received on record was 98.6" in the 1983/84 season.  I hope that we're done with snow for the season but it would not surprise me at all if we weren't.  Both Iowa and Minnesota have had some nasty winter storms in April.  The Twin Cities could move up one or maybe even two more spots in amount received even if we just get as much as they're predict

Today is the 2 Year Anniversary of the Iowa Derecho

Two years ago today Iowa got hit by a derecho Yeah it got really rainy and windy up by Dubuque but there wasn't any damage at the farm.  Nor did we lose power.  Others in the area weren't quite as lucky.  To say nothing of areas like Cedar Rapids or other parts of Iowa that got really hard.  And it was two years ago today that I learned that there was a weather phenomena called derecho.

The Winterpire Strikes Back

Last week when I was down in Iowa the snow pretty much melted up here in the Twin Cities.  Well we got it all back today. More winter fun in the spoiler. Of course today the electric company had a scheduled outage in my neighborhood and my power was supposed to be down from 10 to 2 today.  So I went in to the office.  I have no idea if the outage went off as scheduled or if they're going to do it again tomorrow.  We're under a winter storm warning until 9pm.  My coworker m

The February 2023 Snowpocalypse Has Passed

The weather had pretty much passed through by 2:00pm today and it started to clear up.  According to the non-sharpiefied NWS where I am in the Twin Cities had about 13 inches of snow total, give or take.  I'm glad I decided to wait until tomorrow before I go down for the various family parties this weekend.  Even though the weather has pretty much gone through that's more time for the roads to get better.  Hopefully it'll be quiet for a while now.  Here's a few more photos from this af

Supposed to be a hot one tomorrow

Supposed to be a good hot one in the upper Midwest tomorrow.  Here in Minneapolis it's supposed to be up close to 100 tomorrow. In Iowa the various cities are opening up cooling centers and are advising residents to be careful about the heat.  One of the local stations asked how well prepared the Minnesota power grid is for the heat.  In other words Minnesota won't be as fornicated as Abattoir land was or is when extreme weather hits the power grid.

Summer clocked out at the end of her shift

It’s been cooler up here these past few days. And now we have a frost alert coming  Well my plants are pretty much done for so I don’t have to worry about that now.  I hope it stays decent for a while yet   Leaves have definitely started turning up here and I’m having to wear thicker jackets if I rode in the morning or after work. I still need to get a thicker riding coat as I had to throw my old one out last April.

Spring showed up this week

It got up into the 80s yesterday.  We had some storms though and some hail.  Glad my vehicle was in its parking spot in the garage when the storms came through.  For the rest of this week we're supposed to see lows in the upper 50s to highs close to 90 with some storms in the mix.  Got the windows wide open now even though I live under a final approach for MSP.

Spring is Finally Arriving

Spring may finally be arriving up here. It got up above 70 today. And not only are yards turning green, but various plants are finally starting to bud as well.  Once trees and other plants start budding full leaves are not too far off.  I was able to go out today without a jacket and felt fine. Supposed to be nice, warm, and sunny up here in Minneapolis tomorrow. Sister and brother-in-law picked a good weekend to visit. We’re planning to go see the Twins tomorrow.

Spring briefly appeared today

Nice and warm today up in Minneapolis.  It's close to about 70 degrees up here now.  It was raining out earlier today but it's stopped so I've had the window open for a while today.  First day it's been warm enough to do that. I had the bedroom window open for a while but I decided to close it since if it starts raining suddenly I'm not in a position to move fast to close that window.  I ❤️ my place but of course I could do without being under the final approach for MSP.  Still no

Snow's About to Hit the Fan Here in Minnesota

Looks like we'll be getting some more weather up here in Minnesota.  I guess it's payback for missing out on the storm that hit Iowa a couple weeks ago.  Various sources are saying we might get as much as two feet of snow.  Of course it depends who one listens to. This is the joke that we all mention when the winter storms come in... God only knows how much we'll get now.  I think even just yesterday they were saying maybe an inch in the metro and light snow at most in Iowa - and

Snow! Snow! And More Snow!

Still snowing up here today.  Originally we were supposed to have an in office day today so we'd be able to have a team meeting but they decided to let us all work from home today.  Supposed to keep snowing all day today into tomorrow.  Between today and tonight we could get about another six inches of snow. Here's another view from my patio... I'm ready for spring now.

Snow totals

We wound up getting about three inches in the SW Minneapolis area where I'm staying right now.  I talked to my mom this morning for a bit and she said they got a couple inches yesterday.  Down in the Des Moines area where my sister lives they got about a foot of snow.  Even though it snowed pretty much all day yesterday traffic was humming right along up here.  Not like other areas of the country where so much as a dusting is enough to shut down an area.  It's sunny out today up here b

MS Outlook

I glanced at Outlook and it said the high was gonna be about 58 tomorrow and 45 Saturday.  Oh nice.  Or would've been nice if I lived in Washington, DC.  Which is where Outlook somehow got it in its head where I was located. In Minneapolis they're saying 16 tomorrow.  Saturday looks to be a bit better with highs projected to be in the 30s.

Mount Eden Prairie

There's a pile of snow cleared in a Target parking lot here in the Twin Cities it has been named Mount Eden Prairie. It's also been called Mount Target and one Minnesota woman painted a picture of Minnesota's most famous mound of snow.  Experts think it'll stick around until mid May. I can believe that.  I worked at a manufacturing plant that was over a mile long with an almost equally long parking lot so they had quite the snow piles which wouldn't disappear until May or even the fi

Mother Nature is mean when she drinks

Yeah it's quite cold here in Iowa.  The weather service says it's -8 here now.  That's before wind chill.  With the wind child it feels like -28 out.  It's so cold out I'm getting alerts from GM that the cold might immobilize my vehicle if it's not plugged in.   I wish I could escape to a warm climate right now.

More Spring Weather "Fun"

Xcel is still out cleaning things up and more bad weather is expected this evening. They had said earlier that Washburn and 55th had been blocked.  The neighbor's shelter tent that just about went flying off last week during a storm was ruined.  She said it got tipped right over the fence in the wind.  Otherwise she said there was no other damage and I didn't see any other damage.  Had a couple co-workers that had to make alternate arrangements for working today due to power and/or int
