Autism and Dementia are God’s Punishment

So if autism and dementia were sent by god to "punish the American people," why do those conditions occur in other countries?

Atanus, 55, has run for this office twice before — she lost the 2010 GOP primary and in 2012 was taken off the ballot because she didn't have enough valid signatures.

She doesn't know how to take "no" for an answer, does she?

The odds are that 50% of all people over the age of 85 are at risk for dementia. I am sure that Atanus will be glad to fess up to her sins if/when she gets it. People who live in glass houses . . .

Since when is Autism a punishment?!

My autistic son is a wonderful, if very unusual, young man. Does this woman realise that a significant proportional of university lecturers fall somewhere along the autism spectrum? Some of the worlds top scientists have an ASD. Some of the worlds top artists and musicians have an ASD. Does she realise that although having an ASD can make you a difficult child, with the right support you can grow up into an adult who changes the world?

Autism is not a punishment but it can be a gift.

It reminds me something my dad told me. When he was a kid, catholic priests told children that mansturbation cause baldness and vision problems. My dad laughed at that because he knew a lot of priests who were bold or wearing glasses or both.

That really makes me furious. Clearly she has never seen anyone severely afflicted with dementia. It is so heartbreaking for their loved ones and is no doubt a living hell for the sufferers. How dare she say they brought that upon themselves?

As for autism, that's an odd one to pick. I guess she thinks all autistics are poop-slinging mutes or something and is entirely unaware of how highly intelligent and successful many people with autism are, on all parts of the spectrum. I guess it's also possible she found out about CWC and made the unfortunate deduction that he was representative of autistic individuals.

Please tell me she has a Facebook page?

So god decided that as punishment for gay marriage, my beautiful, fun, caring, loving, partially sighted, autistic daughter should be born?

Well good! She's the best thing that ever happened to me. And I'm convinced that with her incredible determination to make the most of all life throws at her, that she'll go a long way.

So fuck you, you ignorant bitch. My daughter is worth a thousand of you.

These sort of proclamations always seem so obvious and so primitive to me. "The gods are punishing us because (we have stopped worshipping correctly, our king is sinning, the people are doing xyz, we need to battle the people over there) We won't stop having storms, or bad crops, or being warred upon by the people over there until we do what the god's want.

Oddly, what the gods want always falls into line with what is advantageous to whatever the religious leaders find most advantageous politically. Want a new king-- preach that this king is what is keeping the country down-- want to damage an enemy? Proclaim that god has told you that the only thing that will do is sending the children of the enemy as sacrifices.

Can't think of a compelling or logical reason to convince people to stop supporting gay marriage, nor biblical reason that allows you to force nonbelievers to follow your religions rules? TIme to make shit up.... create a fake correlation to try to convince people that by forcing others to follow "the god's rules" we can all live happily ever after. And get our way politically. OR, if we get our way politically, we can stone / punish those other people and then won't we feel better?

She might as well be running on the "let's sacrifice a virgin" platform and wearing some 1940s B movie tribal priest garb.

hmmm, I wonder what people who had autism or dementia before the advent of gay marriage were being punished for? Luckily, it's quite obvious she will lose the nomination to the other GOP candidate who appears sane.

Cross your fingers for that second part. That was what non republican'ts and other quasi sane people thought here in Delaware in 2010 and instead Christine ("I'm not a witch" and "Masturbation is Bad") O'Donnell won the GOP primary for the US Senate seat and Glen ("Abortion is bad because I have good friends who are the products of rape and incest") Urquarhart won the primary for our House Seat. And Christine O'Donnell will probably be the candidate the GOP trots out for the Senate seat again this year.

I have cerebral palsy. When I was about four or five, my parents and I were in a diner after having been to some specialist or other, and I was complaining that my legs hurt because of all the poking and stretching, and probably whining to get my braces taken off while we ate. Because I was four. And my mother was trying to get me to be quiet and still and eat my damn food, because she was exhausted after dealing with a kid in waiting rooms all morning. So this Mennonite couple comes up to my parents and asks them what sin they committed to make me "crippled." My father was raised by an abusive father, and has worked his whole life to break the cycle, but he came really close to punching the guy out. That memory has always stuck with me. I don't understand that disability as punishment mindset at all, and I certainly don't think it's Biblical, even if you buy into the way Jesus himself appears to use healing metaphors in the NT.

Just imaging what would happen if she said this in front of my mother ( who is the mother of autistic me )...or a whole crowd of moms of autistic children. Never mess with moms of autistic ( or disabled ) children.

um - who's CWC?

A very unwell person who spends most of his time making a spectacle of himself on the internet, and who happens to be autistic. Don't even worry about it.

CWC is short for Christian Weston Chandler.

What a terrible thing to have to hear and what terrible people.

So how would these people explain that my mother's cousin who was a fundy pastor for many years is spending his life caring for his modesty-loving skirts-wearing-only formerly fundy wife who has Alzheimer's? What exactly is God punishing this couple for?

BTW...he doesn't put skirts on her anymore. It is easier to dress her in pants. And he doesn't go to fundy church anymore for reasons he has never said. He goes to a rather liberal mainline Protestant church. This post makes me wonder even more what those reasons are.

Perhaps he's forgotten that his party's idol, Ronald Reagan, died from complications of Alzheimer's disease...
