Driscoll on Homosexuality

I am making a seperate thread because this is a different topic from my other Driscoll post.

He has a slightly more nuanced view on homosexuality . He states that all sex outside of marriage is wrong. Adultery, pornography, etc are not better than homosexuality. It doesn't seem that he is denying that same sex attractions exist.

He says the answer is to come to Jesus and get a new heart and new desires. For the person suffering from same sex attractions, he says that his church has programs to help them.

However, in his church a heterosexual person can marry and engage in sexual activity. Whereas, a homosexual person would either have to lie and marry a person that they are not attracted to or they would have to live without sex. That seems pretty harsh to me. He did not say that but it seems a fair conclusion from what he stated.

I also wonder how accepting his church would be to the homosexual who was honest about their desires not changing.

This seems to be a common way of saying 'I am a bigot and completely intolerant of something totally natural, so I am going to use this blanket term of ridiculousness to make it seem like I am not trying to be offensive or prejudiced'.

Sadly, we had a conversation on this forum with a young fundie who thought homosexuals should be stoned.

I agree though, Mark's statement is an attempt to appear more openminded while still holding bigoted views.

I will never understand the mindset that people have that makes them think it is ok or even warranted to take the life of another living being just for disagreeing with them or living a different life.

Aren't the religious always touting how moral they are? Morals my arse if you are advocating murder based on a bronze age book.

This is how most of the evangelicals I have known/know view it. I don't know anyone who personally thinks gay people should be rounded up and put in camps or stoned or some of the really crazy, hateful things that we hear from some religious people. BUT, almost every evangelical Christian I know believes that homosexual activity is a sin, marriage is for one man and one woman only, and it is their goal to "hate the sin, love the sinner". They accept that people do have same-sex attractions, but the only way forward with which they can support is complete celibacy on the part of the homosexual.

So, it's like, "No, we don't think you're a bad person, but you just cannot act on any of your homosexual feelings. Give your life to Jesus and he will take away those desires over time. We welcome you among us [but stay away from teh children!], but we cannot tolerate willful sin. God did not make you that way, so he can do a good work [fix] in you."

They do not consider themselves bigots, but just people who accept the Word of God as literal truth and you know, any arguments with that you just have to take up with God.

Just had my anatomy scan today. Would it be awful if we revealed the sex of number 2 At silly girl's first birthday party? We have the envelope, I just don't know If we want to open it before or during her party or give it to my sister in law to bake the color into her cake? I don't want to feel like I'm taking attention off of her

Guess I should update again? Frieda (Kiki, we renamed her) is here since the end of February 2021. She came with a bunch of problems, but is the best dog ever and is doing better every day. But we do now know how a dog with ptsd looks like. For real, not joking. If she is triggered during the day, she wakes up screaming at night. Not like dogs dream, but literally screaming. Other than that she went with us on countless trips, loves hiking and even cable cars. She is one heck of a fearless dog in situations who do not remind her of her old life.
My Grandpa passed away last May and I'm still grieving a lot. After sharing a house with my grandparents for over 30 years it is just horrible to lose one of them. Even though it was his decision and he got to go like he wanted. At home, in his bed during the night without doctors. He would have need more care and he did not want more care. So after turning 90 he decided to let go and became weaker and weaker.
In other news my dad stops working for good on April 1st. Retirement time. Keep my Mum and myself in your prayers. We really do not want him at home all the time. Haha!

I don't always make good decisions for myself due to severe depression but I did today actively decide not to do something that might have been detrimental for me and am very proud of myself.

Well, this is weird. At some point, recently, I broke my wrist. I had to get a Dexa-scan today (put it off for years) and along with some bone loss, damn I had it a few minutes ago… the results said, “Fracture risk is moderate, and the patient has a significant wrist fracture. Treatment is advised.”  my left wrist aches a little but not near as much as my back, feet, knees or fingers, damn RA. I have no idea how it happened. I haven’t fallen in 2 years, haven’t banged or bumped…  the dr will call tomorrow and we’ll get  this straightened out.
