Women drivers will bring end to virginity

BY CHRISTIAN BRYANT

In a new report, a group of conservative Muslim scholars say Saudi women being allowed to drive would spell the end of virginity. A reporter for ThinkProgress.org writes,

“The group said women drivers would lead to a ‘surge in prostitution, pornography, homosexuality and divorce,’ and complained that, after ten years of women driving, there would be ‘no more virgins’ in the [islamic] kingdom.â€

Although there is no official law in Saudi Arabia saying women cannot drive, a ban prohibits them from doing so. The Global Post notes that this study might have been hatched as an attempt to put pressure on Saudi ruler King Abdullah to keep from rescinding the ban.

“...The report was drafted in an attempt by the Saudi religious elite to deter the king from reviewing the driving ban, which he has alluded may happen as part of his reforms process.â€

King Abdullah has pushed for some women’s rights reform, but still defers to traditional religious clerics. Over the summer, a woman named Manal al-Sharif posted this video of herself driving in Saudi Arabia. Sharif was arrested over the video, leading to an uprising of women protesting the driving ban. Another woman who drove was sentenced to 10 lashes, but King Abdullah overturned the decision.

This new report was presented to Saudi Arabian legislators. One researcher claims that there has been a “moral decline†in countries where women drive. The Telegraph spoke with him:

“[One Professor] described sitting in a coffee shop in an unnamed Arab state where ‘all the women were looking at me... One made a gesture that made it clear that she was available... This is what happens when women are allowed to drive.’â€

As you can imagine, the “scientific†study has its critics. A writer for HotAir.com mocks the research.

“Well, we certainly can’t afford a massive sell-off in the virgin market. Not to mention the dangers of having gays running around wild, selling pornographic magazines to these female drivers when they pull up to a stop light. Divorced hookers! Dogs and cats living together!â€

Saudi women have continued to stage protests by getting behind the wheel and posting video of it online.

Gotta admit, some of these guys are pretty creative with their logic.

I mean seriously, what will women driving do? Okay, it will allow them to get to their boyfriends houses to "do it" faster. But other than that...?

Hey, I am living proof that this is true. I got my driver's license at 17, and BAM! Three years later, I lost my virginity.

I'm sure Jonathan Lindvall and Stacy McDonald will agree with this since they teach similar things. And to them, it makes sense. Staying clean and holy-like is paramount. Forget everything else.

I started driving a stick shift at 14 and that must the reason I first had willing at 18. ( I don't count the rapes as I wasn't willing) Must have been 4 years of having to shift to the next gear that turned me into a whore raather than I was a normal 18 year old.

Dammit, I had sex before I started driving, I KNEW I was doing something wrong! (I was a late-bloomer driver)

Come to think of it, the only reason I had sex was because my boyfriend could drive, so maybe it's Male Drivers that bring the end to virginity... :naughty:

I didn't pass my test until a year after I'd lost mine! Maybe staying pure would have protected me from the evils of the road

My friend is from Saudi and says it's the least safe country, driving-wise, she's ever been to. They all believe Allah will decide whether they live or die, and they have no control over it, so they speed, take ridiculous risks and ignore safety signs.

Drat, I did it backwards then. I apparently was supposed to get my driver's license first. (Had no pressing need for a license and didn't start driving/get a license til I was almost 19 and got a car because the bus stopped running before my shifts ended.) How foolish of me.

I had sex too before I was driving. But I was married before I knew how to drive.

It took five years for my ebul driving to steal my virginity; I wonder what's wrong with me :P

I can actually see an argument that there is a correllation between women driving and women's sexual liberation, in that it is symbolic of women having freedom and control over their own lives, including their sex lives. However, that is a GOOD thing, and is not at all evidence of moral decline. Anyway, these men need to learn that correllation does not mean causation.
