Adams Family

Hi,

I'm new to Freejinger but was wondering if anyone could help me with this:

Has anyone heard of the ATI Adams family? http://theadamsfamily1993.blogspot.com/2012/12/serving-at-iblp.html - one of their daughters got married ATI style- handholding only for engagement etc, but now suddenly it appears they're no longer together. I just wondered if anyone knows what happened? The two girls in the family- Abigail and Madelyn went on the IBLP Romania trip with some of the Bates girls in 2011 and they were both Mr Gothard's secretaries for a while: https://iblp.org/news/romania-trip-2011 . 

I'm brand new and am still finding my way around so apologies if this post is in the wrong place!!

Welcome to FJ!  I have never heard of the Adamses, but I'm sure someone here has. How did you find out that she's no longer with her husband? The blog appears to have gone inactive after the engagement post about four years ago.

Because its implied through her instagram and facebook- she's changed the name on both from her married name Abigail Adams Scott to Abigail Adams, and on her Instagram she's deleted any trace of him and keeps tagging her posts "beauty from the ashes". Thanks!

Interesting! I hope someone here knows what’s up - it’s always intriguing when a staunch Gothardite does something majorly out of step with fundamentalism, like getting a divorce.

Never heard of these folks, but I do like seeing deconversion stories. Madelyn has gotten pretty far from the cult too-- on her Instagram she talks about drinking wine and getting a tattoo, and it looks like her first child was born before she and her husband were married. It also looks like they're still tight with their parents, which is nice.

Wow, really? That all just seems like an enormous leap from where they were a few years ago, based on their blog. How did you find their Instagram?

Her married name is Gregoire, found it from Abigail's Facebook

Wow! I would definitely not have guessed they'd been IBLP four years ago based on Instagram. I wonder what happened.

Edit: But scrolling back through Madelyn's Instagram, it becomes very apparent very quickly that life was not what the family blog portrayed it to be. I kind of get the impression that Abigail was the true believer and Madelyn was just there to pose nicely for the pictures and make her parents happy (not to say she has a bad relationship with her parents - there doesn't seem to have been a major falling out or anything, which is nice to see. And again, this is all just what I've gleaned from a very quick glance at their blog and Instagram accounts).

I can't find anyone who knows why Abigail and her partner Brandon are not together anymore- hopefully someone will reply soon!

Not every fundy divorce is the result of a titillating scandal.  I suppose it's possible that the parties involved slowly realized that they weren't cut out for the IBLP lifestyle (or each other) and gave it all up.

Of course, but that's just as interesting (if not more so) than a titillating scandal, at least to me. I always find the reasons why people leave or break from fundamentalism super interesting.

I agree. When someone is a child rapist, it’s not surprising at all that the wife would divorce him. And the fundie community will usually be supportive of the divorce. But when a fundie couple divorces for very common and rather mundane reasons, it IS almost more interesting. Because fundie circles often don’t support the divorcing couple. So many fundies believe you can work it out most of the time. They wrote or talk about it all the time. That’s why it’s more interesting.

I'm horrible at linking Instagram. But the boyfriends public isntagram is under Brandon Lybrand. Since i first posted Brandon Scott ( the ex) took the LGBT flag off his bio. His Instagram is private tho.

Well I’m glad they divorced after less than a year of marriage and before they had any kids. Too bad he didn’t come out before the wedding. I feel bad for her but this is definitely best for the both of them. Trying to force a marriage between and gay person and a straight person just ends in so much pain.

It was more than a year and it all happened when she shattered her wrists in a horse accident. She couldn't even dress herself. Also since the divorce was so sudden it seems like he was hiding a relationship or the fact he is homosexual. If that is the case then fuck him. I have no sympathy for cheaters or liars.

That’s so sad. That would be traumatic for anyone. Not just fundies.

Another failed courtship-marriage- Abigail spent a lot of time at IBLP HQ and served under Gothard (looks like she was his secretary from the blog post) and probably decided to take the courtship route because of IBLP's promotion if it

Since this was bumped, I looked to see what Abigail was up to and it looks like she’s remarried and expecting a girl she’s naming Eileen. I like old fashioned names so I’m into it.
