GSBC president Cameron Giovanelli accused of sex abuse

I hope I’m sharing this correctly. North Valley Baptist Church is trying to cover this up, but one IFB pastor refuses to let them.

(Edit: I have no clue how to embed the actual tweet...)

I became aware of this yesterday (brought to my attention by a relative of mine). I had not been able to find any documentation that was not private (i.e. private social media).

It is my understanding that Giovanelli (this offender) has "stepped down" from position of college president, but is still on staff.

This is the second president of Golden State Baptist College to step down for sexual abuse in recent years. The previous guy stepped down in April 2014 (per my Google search).

This church and school is a kind of spin-off of HAC and FBCHammond (Trieber, the church's pastor and the college's chancellor is a HAC grad). HAC and FBCHammond win the "prize" (in my frame of reference) for possibly one of the worst offenders in existence for extreme proliferation and excuse-making and continuing of sexual offenses that I am aware of. The churches and schools in the HAC/FBCHammond orbit all seem to have problem in this respect - and none of it has improved, in spite of Jack Schaap's conviction and incarceration.

Yes, the other guy was Brad Boruff. There was an FBI investigation, but they successfully kept it hush hush and he moved to another state.

This all started because the victim was brave and made a public Facebook post.

GSBC is making this out to be an “attack of the devil” on their “ministry.” Just check out Cindie Trieber’s Facebook page, and the GSBCstrong hashtag.

Just learned of this today. I'm glad that pastor is resisting the cover up. Sexual offenders need to be dealt with, no matter who they are.

I don't personally know any of the parties involved (although I do come from that "camp") but I have alot of respect for Stacey Scifflett for what he did. I am sick to death of these churches sweeping this stuff under the rug ALL THE TIME!!!!!!!! Trieber can go fuck himself. He says to pray for Camerons family..... what about the VICTIM!??????

*sarcasm on*  Gawdly men are the victims here!  *sarcasm off*

It is infuriating how consistently the true victims are never mentioned as needing prayer, compassion, support.  NEVER.  It's just the Gawdly men who can't keep their damned pants zipped up who get the love.

And let me say one more thing.  This has happened in a staggering number of instances, and I'm thinking that, unless these guys have had a secret vasectomy, unintended pregnancies have resulted, and of these unintended pregnancies, some/a lot/almost all have been terminated to protect the man's reputation and his position of influence, regardless of the church's stand on the sanctity of life.

This!  I am sure there are more than a few girls "staying with Grandma out of state" and kiddos going to people like Scott Brown in a down low adoption......

God damn these lying bloody men who use their authority and influence to victimize others and then cover it up. Church should be on the forefront of supporting the real victims. I’m glad that at least one honest man stood up for truth. That’s what Jesus would do!

Your post hit home.

For 35 years I thought I was the perpetrator.  The abuse was my 15 year old fault, I brought it on with my inappropriate behavior, I was the sinner.  When the damn finally broke all I could hear screaming in my head was "What about the Victim?!!".

This is what Catholic Church taught me...I was the sinner...and they treated me as such.  I've come to understand through my time here that this is common in christianity and possibly far worse in the fundamentalist religions.  At least some people stood up for me and believed me.  At least now in the Catholic Church people have begun understanding that this shit went on for centuries... and not just with boys.  People have left the Catholic Church over it because they find it so heinous.

By and large, I believe religion is poison.  Just be a decent human being.

I know none of these people, but decided to listen to the video.  I believe he said one of the men on the conference call was, David Gibbs Jr.  I know I have heard that name mentioned here before, or his son, David Gibbs III, with respect to Lourdes lawsuit.  At about 18:45 in the video he mentions who is on the conference call.  Are the men on the conference call the ones who lied and put out that false statement?

Thank you for your kindness.  Reading what you wrote helps so much.  My heart weeps for anyone, anywhere, who has gone through this.  I know we are legion.

My experience was not church or religion related, but yes we are legion  And that makes me very sad.

The response from the HAC crowd is so icky. There are people saying we shouldn’t be “gossiping” about the situation. And then there’s this post by a guy named Allen Domelle being shared, from yesterday morning, about how we should be “slow to accusation” and “quick to pray for the accused.”

Slow to accusation, fine, but it sounds as though the evidence is truly overwhelming. At this point, it is not about the possibility that the accusations might be false, or that the accused person can change his ways through prayer and reconciliation. The time for that, in my opinion, has long passed.

Now, I think it should be about making things as right for the victim as humanly possible, and making sure that Cameron doesn’t have the opportunity to do this to anyone else.

Yes, it’s like those people didn’t watch the Friday video. When there’s evidence, it’s no longer possible to be a “false accusation.”

And now this Domelle person has a post called “publish it not” on a website called Old Paths Journal (I’m not linking, but it should be easy to find).

It’s a bunch of Hyles hogwash. Sounds just like the junk Hyles wrote in his book “Justice.”

Of course, this would be one thing if the person was caught with legal porn, or in a consensual affair... but this is about a crime, and there is at least one victim!!! They wouldn’t act like this if it was a murder, or a robbery. Such hypocrites!!!
