No Sympathy For Boston Because Of Civil War

You can tell a lot about a nation when it faces a bit of trouble. The yankee nation has gone full-bore apoplectic over the Boston bombing. Several traits, none of them attractive, have surfaced. First, indignation. "How dare you attack us! We're innocent people who have never harmed anyone." Second, fear. "Stay in your homes, lock your doors and pull down the shades, and if someone knocks, don't answer it. Leave everything to the authorities." These are commands to a servile, effeminate people. And third, despair. I heard the former Mayor of Boston, Ray Flynn, say that this was the worst things that had ever happened to his city. How indeed will they ever recover? Perhaps they could look to Columbia, Charleston, Atlanta, or several other once-devastated Southern towns and cities for some historical advice on how to survive and recover from real tragedies.

As a Southerner, I've had a belly full of all this whining, complaining, hyperbole, and fear-mongering from New England. Meanwhile, our Southern kinfolk in Texas are quietly going about the business of cleaning up and looking to the future amidst a much greater and more deadly disaster in the little community of West. We are indeed two very different nations. Michael Hill

I really have no comment about this hateful article except to say that the writer is an ass.

This blogger & I have a lot in common. I too, think that looking to the past is important. For instance, perhaps this writer & his/her ilk could look to the several million once-devastated slave families for some historical advice on how to survive & recover from real tragedies. As someone who is not a Confederate apologist, I've had a bellyful of all this whining, complaining, hyperbole & fear-mongering from this jerk.

Maybe Texas is quietly going about cleaning up because they don't want national attention drawn to the fact that their safety records are abysmal. Keeping people safe is socialism! Unless you're a fetus. But yeah, we should totally keep government out of people's private business. Unless you're gay. Or have a uterus. Then the government needs to get all up in that. Fuckers.

And we fought a war to get these idiots back why? Seriously, go ahead and secede. I'll help you pack.

The difference between an industrial accident and an attack is always going to make a difference in the news. To make a comparison, he might want to consider the coverage of the OKC bombing vs the Boston Bombing. More or less the same kind of coverage-- Compare Katrina and Sandy-- a lot more whining from the south, thanks.

One of the downsides of the internet is that bizarro people can make a normal looking website and draw in more people than their they would have be able to do 20 years ago when they would have been reduced to mailing or standing at a street corner handing out poorly copied or mimeographed pages to disinterested passersby.

If I'm not wrong, I believe this facility had not been checked since 1985, almost 30 years!!! To get a simple job, workers have to pee in a cup, have a background check done on them, be fingerprinted, take several pre-employment tests, and be asked incredibly invasive questions that border on illegal. But if someone wants to inspect a building to see if its safety codes are up to speed, these anti-government fuckwits scream "Socialism, Communism, Marxism, Barack HUSSEIN Obama is a Muslim from Kenya!"

And I've got some unused luggage to donate to the cause.

It's also probably socialism to hope that a facility capable of that much destruction would be required to carry more than $1 million in liability insurance.

Maybe southerners are the kind of separate nation that can rebuild without trying to hold the cause of that rebuilding financially responsible? (Is it socialism to expect federal dollars to help with that rebuilding?)

The term "Yankee Nation" angers me. If you were either born in the United States or are a naturalized citizen you are an American. There is no Southern or Yankee Nation. We are all one people with many diverse backgrounds.

True. Plus studies have shown the South takes more in programs and aid than it gives back, so actually it's the Yankee taxpayers who foot the bill. Not that I mind helping my fellow countrymen who are in need, but if I'm the Bank of Yankee Nation it's not going to work.

I (personally) feel like it's true that media and news in the US tends to be a little louder and have a better attention span about news that is happening in places where media is centralized: NYC, LA, DC, and their environs. I think it's true that there is sadly still division and a feeling of disassociation from the North in some Southerners. But I compeletely agree that whining about the Confederacy and how bad they had it is no way to get anyone to feel better about the situation.

(FWIW, I was raised in the Midwest and have spent my adult life in the South)

Real tragedy? REAL tragedy? Oh, that is the living end. Heads up, Hill : sorrow is sorrow and suffering is suffering no matter what side of a war you were on 150 years ago. Capisce?

I'm just really amused that anyone would consider Boston to be part of Yankee anything. We're pretty accepting here, but we do not like the Yankees!

Why is socialism such a swear word, something to be denigrated and maligned by these people. Ignorance?

I'm a happy person living in my socialist country with everybody else some of whom, quite a lot actually are conservative. Shocker eh?

Disgusted that Boston as a community can not be given the credit for dealing with a terrible trauma with dignity and then hear this shit.

I guess all those Bostonians who gave their lives during the Revolutionary War & War of 1812 did it all for nothing?

FFS, we're all Americans! It's time for these people to get their heads out of their asses and realize that.

Yep, some are, and yes, some think that it is. There's all kinds of ass-backwards thinking in these here parts. What's so funny is they wouldn't know true socialism if it bit them on the ass.
