RIP Arete

Destiny

It grieves us to share that long time poster and helpmeet @Arete has passed due to complications from cancer.

Arete joined FJ in 2012 and described herself as "I'm in my early 40s, live in the Northeast US, and work as an ebil scientist. Born and raised Greek Orthodox Christian, and still am, got to have my smells and bells in congregational prayer. Politically liberal."

She was glad to provide information about her church, her experiences in gardening, and her Greek family traditions.

In respect for her family's privacy, we won't be sharing any additional details, but we know you will join us in honoring the memory of a graceful woman.

I so enjoyed her posts.  Her Christmas recipe ideas were so unique, I was in awe over her Christmas dinner, such talent.

My deepest sympathy to all FJ'ers that had the honor of knowing Arete.  Her family and friends are in my thoughts, I'm so very sorry.

I am so deeply grieved right now. Arete, you were one of my favorite FJ posters. In agreement or disagreement you always showed a high sense of integrity, you were a no-bullshit person and I loved reading your well-thought-out posts. You will be greatly missed. I don't know who you were IRL, but I will never forget you. My thoughts, my prayers, my good wishes are with your family and all those who are mourning for you.

Rest in Peace.

I don't know a thing about her, but reading all of this, of how she clearly touched so many, and so deeply... I have become indirectly moved myself by her obvious influence.

May the memory of her be eternal.

Rest in peace Arete. Although I didn't know her I always enjoyed reading what she had to say, such an intelligent, thoughtful and wonderfully beautiful person she showed herself to be here through her years here on FJ. Condolences to her family and all here who were lucky to call her friend.

Every time I go to my fridge, I think of her. She was invaluable in giving me shopping, cooking, and food tips during a hungry time in my life- my wife and I were spending most of our income on rent and chose to keep our pets, leaving very little money for our food.

Sometimes, there still wasn't enough, but thanks to her wisdom, I rarely went hungry.

Often it seems that Many of the human race lack true beauty, love and knowledge, it's so sad when the world loses someone so full of those wonderful qualities.

Love and hugs to all who knew, worked with and loved her.

This guy is suspicious as hell. He says his estranged wife died by suicide. But there’s a lot of stuff that makes him look shady. She was divorcing him. This would be his second divorce. As we all know, one divorce for a pastor is bad enough. But 2? That’s career killing. It’s also suspicious that he’s known her since she was 15 and he was much older than her. I’m betting he groomed her because she attended his church. And he divorced his first wife so he could marry her. He also delivered a sermon that same day. And it was suspicious too.

    • Is that what Jessa is saying, that she never feels like leaving the house?

That was exactly my thought. I hated leaving the house with two young kids. All those car seats, car sickness, and the constant complaining. Along with remembering to pack diapers, wipes, and other crap babies need. I also hated to nurse in public. So I felt like I was on house arrest for a full year.

Ugg- my SIL/brother had 3 boys in 3 years. And these were really high maintenance kids, fragile, asthma, surgeries, accidents…and my SIL loved to be anywhere but home (brother a FF who worked 24 hour shifts, so gone a lot). I used to pray that she would just stay home as it would have been so much easier. She didn’t-

I hope that the reason that Carver and his bride ended their honeymoon early is because they got bored or homesick at the resort but I worry there were shades of a Debi Pearl honeymoon sort of experience. I'm probably overthinking things but if someone is leaving their honeymoon early how can this not bode poorly for the marriage?

I had a similar thought - maybe the honeymoon wasn’t Pearl-level awful, but suddenly being alone with a member of the opposite sex and/or the physical side of marriage was shocking to one or both. For all these couples claim being married is the bestest thing ever, it’s got to be a difficult adjustment for many of them.
