RIP Arete

Destiny

It grieves us to share that long time poster and helpmeet @Arete has passed due to complications from cancer.

Arete joined FJ in 2012 and described herself as "I'm in my early 40s, live in the Northeast US, and work as an ebil scientist. Born and raised Greek Orthodox Christian, and still am, got to have my smells and bells in congregational prayer. Politically liberal."

She was glad to provide information about her church, her experiences in gardening, and her Greek family traditions.

In respect for her family's privacy, we won't be sharing any additional details, but we know you will join us in honoring the memory of a graceful woman.

May the Blessed Eternal, by whatever name each of us calls Holy, welcome Arete to the glory and joy and peace of the afterlife.

May family and friends receive comfort and grace and help, as they mourn.

Rest now in peace, beloved Child of the Eternal.

I was always so impressed with her contributions to any discussion. I knew it would be interesting and bad-ass. I'm sad that the world is less awesome without her in it.

I hope her family and loved ones read these great thoughts. I think I would find it comforting to hear so many people were touched by them. I know I shared recipes with her and even made a few. I will have to dig them out. I also appreciated her sharing her Greek Orthodox heritage. My Mom's family was Russian Orthodox and I know so little about it.

I had wondered why I hadn't seen a post from her in a while. I always appreciated her insight and integrity (there would be no "Bitch Eating Crackers" if she had anything to say about it.)  She will be missed.

Oh my goddess, Arete is gone? She like, helped shape FJ. ...Words aren't working very well right now. I'm going to light some incense for her and her loved ones, and hoping these good thoughts and prayers for and from those she left behind, circulate and bless us as she has done.

May her memory be eternal. May the Angels and Archangels open the gates of paradise to her.

Mother of the never-setting Sun, Parent of our God, O preserve them that set their hope on you; intercede, we pray you, with our greatly gracious Lord, that repose may be granted her that now is departed. In that habitation where repose the souls of the Just: and unto everlasting remembrance set her in the courts of the Righteous, made all-blameless, as the heir of blessings divine. Amen.

How sad. I raised a glass of beautiful wine to her memory tonight in my friend's vineyard while fireworks exploded all around. Godspeed friend.

Surely they could get a swing set second hand and at least get out in their backyard. I have a basic one that I got free on give away weekend.  My daughter loves sending her dolls down the slide. She needs to get outside for her own mental health. Buy some sidewalk chalk and let Spurgie through Fern go nuts.

Sorry I can’t help but see so many fundie women turning out 2 ways when they become adults: The first are the fundie women who grew up being sister moms who got used to being perpetually exhausted and just became fundie wives in the same situation as a wife. And the second is the fundie princess. Who was raised sheltered, isolated, and thinking she’s better and more special than everyone else because god. Examples are Braggie and Jill Rod. I wouldn’t be surprised if Haley is a fundie princess. Just a guess.

NOPE on making kids responsible for other kids’ safety- that is a huge recipe for disaster and the need for lifelong therapy.

That honeymoon cannot have been cheap. To leave so early, man that's a huge waste.

That they'd be willing to waste such money to leave early says a lot about how badly it was going.

Or that she’s young and over privileged and doesn’t care she wasted her parents’ money.

Plus how do you get them all out of the car without somebody running into the street/parking lot?

Parentalize the older ones to look after the younger ones? It’s the Duggar way!
