Leif Garrett

i want to thank @violynn that I needed Leif Garret circa 1970 something in my life.

No crushing on him even in the day, but I can appreciate great hair and a fun poppy cover of Runaround Sue.

Leif is indeed on Spotify.  If you see a woman of a certain age singing along with him on her commute tomorrow...it's not me.  Way too dignified for thst.

Emergency is on Netflix.  I loved that show.

How does anyone have time for a life with all these nostalgic temptations?

Actually, I may be "inheriting" a used treadmill soon -- that may become my self-negotiated way to watch some fun old tv and still feel like I'm doing something beneficial with my time...

It's raining...on prom night...my hair is a mess...

it's wilting...the quilting...on my Maidenform...

mascara flows..right down my nose...because of the storm...

No - i never sang the Grease sound track to an audience of stuffed animals, why do you ask.

And I had no idea that Maidenform line was about a padded bra until years later.

I actually shouldn't repeat things I just read somewhere and can't remember.  I heard that - somewhere here I think, but I have no sources.

and I never sang the soundtrack either :D

I don't know - a couple of quick blog posts before I got to work and I can't stop checking notifications because it's like the best slumber party ever and you guys are too fun.

I'm running out of things I can do so I'm legitimately working while here...need more data that takes a lonnng time to compile.

Anyone else have a thing for sidekicks?  The more obscure crushes that weren't featured in the mags...

You can have Willie Ames circa Eight is Enough...I liked his weird buddy Ernie.

No Mike Seaver for me thank you....I wanted Boner all the way.

Michael J Fox was the perfect Alex P Keaton...but Skippy would have been really grateful.

Not Fonzie...I used to wonder why no one seemed to notice Potsie was the only classically handsome guy in the original cast.

Keith was the hot Partridge but Danny was the smart one - give me a smart ass that can get shit done any time.

Original Bad News Bears?  You can keep your Kelly Leak...Joey Turner any day of the week.  Played by Brandon Cruz who was once Eddie from the Courtship of Eddie's Father and later super hot (to this day) punk rock guy who for a time replaced Jello biafra in the Dead Kennedys (iirc).

And guys with dark hair/eyes were my ususal type but ...

Phillip McKeon from Alice.  (sorry - nothing to compare him to on the show.  Not like Mel,  the old telephone repair guy, or Dave Madden appealed to pre-teen me.)

We've already discussed likely Jimmy Baio more than his cousin Scott.

Parker Stevenson over Shaun Cassidy.

Remember Kirsty Alley thanking him at some awards show for giving her "the big one" for so many years?

My adoration of Parker may have carried over to that first season or so of Baywatch.

Randolph Mantooth was gorgeous and has aged verrrrry well.

Mantooth's rescue squad partner--the way he looked at the time--reminds me of John David Duggar.

BTW, that actor was John Locke's scheming father on "Lost."  He was a character you loved to hate.

So?  What say ye?  Does Kevin Tighe look a bit like JD here?

Picture1.png

And if your answer was "yes," then this is a preview of what JD might look like in about 40 years:

Kevin Tighe is now on my list of awesome bad guy actors.  Because he's fallen into playing that type.  He was also in RoadHouse with Swayze I believe.

I think wherever Leif Garrett is now he should be happy to know he's a much more popular blog topic than ghost ham.

"More interesting than ghost ham" should totally go on his resume.

I’m the same age as Braggie and I was so glad to be over the baby toddler stage. Her girl twins are the same age as my older son and her son Theo is the same age as my younger son. And she’s had 4 kids since having this kids. I would be so miserable and phoning everything in. If I had 4 more kids. I’m so glad I can focus on my 2 kids and enjoy parenting them.

I'm so glad for you, too ❤️ I always wanted 3 kids and ended up having them 2 years apart because I wanted them to be close in age. Their dad and I worked separate shifts, so no daycare involved but very little sleep! Thank God for youth because I swear I look back at it and have no clue how I did it. Run on fumes I guess, but my girls grew up pretty tight and good friends so it was all worth it.

I have just been catching up one this thread.

My heart breaks for the Jill and Derick.

Ethel Kennedy did, indeed, have 9 c-sections, but most Obs would find that foolish.  My first OB told me that I should not have more than 3 cesareans and I did not.  My first three were born by c-section as my first three were big - 9.5, 91, and 8.13.  I switched doctors between second and third babies and my new OB told me on my way to the recovery room that I would have no problem with an 8 pounder.  I did have a minor separation of my old scar with that labor.  I did have a premie in '87 and she was born vaginally as was my fifth  who weighed exactly 8 pounds.

@GutenbergGirl,  my premie, Katherine, was born at about the same gestational age as your baby.  Katherine's eyes were sealed for about 2 weeks after she was born, but she weighed 900 grams.  Unfortunately,  she died at 11 months due to complications of prematurity.  The NICU staff decided that Katherine's gestational age was probably 26 weeks, but maybe as early as 24 weeks.  Our NICu was pretty advanced for the late 80s, but they still can't save babies much younger than 26 weeks. Outcomes have improved,  but there's  limit to how early babies can be saved.  I'm sorry that you lost your baby.

It's also possible Joy was there and requested not to be photographed.

But camera shy Josiah's family was seen, including little Ezra.

I think that the explanation of the camping trip sounds more plausible.

I always knew I wanted only one child. I've been a teacher forever and the only work break I had in 42 years was the three months of maternity leave when she was born. But, luckily, I was able to spend every summer at home with her and when she started school our schedules were very similar and we had the same school vacations.

For me that was perfect. One child was enough because my job has always been demanding from late August to June, and I know my limits. My husband works full time too and was always unusually involved in her life. Even with his considerable help I still was only able to really focus on just one. It's all so individual. But more than two kids? No way. I'm exhausted just thinking about it. My daughter and I are great friends (not in the Jill way - ewww) now that she's in her 20's and on her own.

I keep meaning to post something about Tennessee Brando here - every time I watch one of his videos, I think of Bro Gary and his buddies, because, while his accent is different, he uses a lot of the same southernisms as Gary. It's like he's redeeming the whole southeastern US for me (he's a progressive Democrat who talks about politics).

This video seemed especially apt - it's his take on the evangelical pastor who came out against the Trump bible.

      Spoiler

There's so much the pastor says, and so much about his style, that would be right up Gary's alley. But he's Pentecostal, his church is large, and it looks like they do the worship music stuff that Gary hates - no smokestacks, though.

Now, if Pastor Baker came out against Trump and his bible, that would blow Gary's mind.
