Leif Garrett

i want to thank @violynn that I needed Leif Garret circa 1970 something in my life.

No crushing on him even in the day, but I can appreciate great hair and a fun poppy cover of Runaround Sue.

Leif is indeed on Spotify.  If you see a woman of a certain age singing along with him on her commute tomorrow...it's not me.  Way too dignified for thst.

I had that album til it fell apart.  Not from kissing it, of course.  I still sing "I Was Made For Dancing" while I'm cleaning!

Scott Baio sang?  How did I not know this?

I was probably too busy being defrauded by his much cuter cousin, Jimmy.

I wasn't allowed to watch Soap because my mom was fundy-lite by then and it was "almost pornography"  but I saw the Bad News Bears in Breaking Training about 900 times.

And for the cognitive dissonance as to why the Bad News Bears were okay and Soap wasn't...my mom didn't see the movie and I wasn't about to tell her about the stuff of which she wouldn't approve and fortunately none of the busy-bodies at her church were yammering about it like they were Soap.

But Three's Company was fine...because no one was having sex.  I guess my mom thought Larry upstairs was just super hospitable...but for the rest of them it seems about right.  Hell, even the Ropers weren't getting any and they were "allowed."

Yes he did!  I had totally blocked that out!

And just because it made me laugh here is a Chachi doll sitting on a mailbox...

Chachi's doll is so...beefy.

I did not...but that was a show my dad and brother watched so I had to hate it by definition. :)

I believe this is my favorite thread ever.  Now I'm singing "Da do ra run run"...Shaun Cassidy had such a fun pop music cassette, and Shaun and Parker Stevenson were so cute in The Hardy Boys!

We just talked about Marc Singer on one of the doxing threads...because drift...pics, too.

William Katt is the son of the actress Barbara Hale who played Della Street in the old Perry Mason series.  Little trivia for everyone.

Yeah but Soap had an openly gay character -- wasn't that a first for prime time?  That's what I remember it getting lots of attention for.

Hey Deanie and It's only Rock N Roll were among the first songs I grabbed on spottify.  "Let's see some sweat for the boooooys in the band..." will never not be fun.

I may or may not have ruined this album cover by covering it with Bonnie Bell lip smacker.

Yes, Billy Crystal was the first openly gay character on US tv.  It was a bold move, especially for that time.

My mom wouldn't have been weird about that - if there were people living together without marriage (sans clearly no sex and wacky hi-jinks of Threes Company) that would have been the issue for her.

I completely understand.  That happened to Leif's albums and all his posters.   I think my most embarrassing moment came when my brother caught me singing (using my curling iron as a micriphone, of course) Olivia N John's "Hopelessly Devoted to You" to my supersized Leif Garrett poster,

Who was into Knots Landing

I loved Knots Landing, we didn't get a vcr until 1988 and then because my parents were renovating the house and lived in the garage/loft I lived in the house - I would wake up after taping it and watch it at like 4 in the morning

Somewhere I have an audio cassette I made of KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park when it was on TV.  With an old tape recorder just put next to the TV.  There were Polaroids of the screen at various times, but they've been lost to history.

I still have a 16 magazine of Scott Baio's pic somewhere in my closet

I worked at FCA headquarters in kansas city for a brief period of time. Our team was all encouraged to go on an after-work trip to the IHOP prayer room. I chose not to go and I was the only one. But the (now insane) church I grew up in had been tied to Bickle early on and I'd always had a negative impression of him based on some weird prophecy stuff that people called him out on in the 90s. That said, my childhood church ended up back with IHOP and hired tons of their "graduates." Thankfully my parents are out now.

Maybe I've just spent too much of my life listening to driscoll non-ironically in my youth and then finding my way through deconstruction through ex-mormon youtube.... but it occurs to me that Driscoll's persistence that he's had visions about affairs and the like is strikingly similar to the Visions of Glory "Spencer." And once you make that connection, all of Driscoll's spiritual warfare nonsense and demon trials have the potential to be even more sinister.

An excellent commentary on the rotting corpse of the SBC and those who are protecting it:

They are doing a series on Pressler over at The Wartburg Watch.  Nothing really new there, but a pretty good summary if you're not caught up.

What a lot of people including Wartburg seem to be missing is that Paul Pressler caring what the SBC believed is just a smokescreen.  The reality is this, the SBC is the single largest evangelical voting block in the country.  The lay people involved in the SBC from the Council of National Policy (like Paul Pressler, or Rod Martin) will do whatever it takes to keep this block voting Republican.  They need to cover up abuse in church, not for the sake of the church, but because it could breakup a huge block that can be controlled right now.

I would think having already experienced a uterine rupture, and IIRC this was with Freddy and about 3 weeks before his due date, Jill is in a higher than average risk for untoward events and likely is on a very individualized OBGYN plan. Navigating a pregnancy and safe birth after having had a previous uterine rupture and never having had a vaginal delivery has to make Jill’s care quite unique. I hope she utilizes high risk maternal/fetal practitioners.

You weren’t ready for college….. that’s why you dropped out.

You weren’t ready for that new job…. So you were fired.

You weren’t ready to potty train… so you gave up after a week.

You weren’t ready to homeschool….. so your kids fell behind.

You weren’t ready to buy that house…. So you were denied a loan.

Does she not realize that when you aren’t ready, things can fail spectacularly? I try very hard not to place expectations on my kids that they can’t handle. They aren’t ready for algebra. So I’m not going to force them to learn it. Her thinking is completely flawed.

Exactly! There are way more instances where "no, you're not actually ready" is the appropriate response.
