Picture of the Day ~ 11.06.15

I hadn't decided whether or not I was going to post this page, but since so many of you feel like you can't color or will screw it up, I decided to share this. This was essentially a tessellation with no particular design already laid out.   To me I saw "flowers" so that's how I decided to color it.   Now that it's colored I actually see other possibilities, but the flowers were what jumped out to me initially.   I was coloring this in the car on the way to a dr. appt. and somehow managed to ge

Color Theory

Several people have mentioned that my colors look good together and they have problems choosing what colors to use.   I have some practice with this due to making designs for my online stores.   There is a thing called Color Theory and while that gives an idea of how colors go together, I still maintain that you can't do anything wrong when coloring.   For other areas of life, there are probably color combos that you want to stay away from, but in coloring the sky's the limit. Essentially color

I thought I'd do something different today and just post a plain old fun crayon page.   My husband found me 5-6 different Disney books at the dollar store and grabbed them for me.   I hate kids coloring books these days because they are all "color and activity" books.   I just want plain old pictures to color, like when I was a kid. I am a crayon snob so only have crayola brand, but I think all crayons are pretty similar most likely. As a side note, I'm not sure why the loop part of the bow

Coloring Supplies ~ Gel Pens

Before I ordered my first set of gel pens I did literally several weeks of research on them due to the expense of most sets.  I read hundreds of reviews on amazon and anywhere else I could find information.  When I finally bit the bullet and ordered a set, I got the one that had the best reviews on amazon and hoped for the best.   They turned out to be a great purchase and I'm very happy with them.   Since then I have bought several other sets without any research and they have turned out

This was the first page I colored out of one of the adult coloring books.   I love flamingos, so this was a natural choice for me.  This was done with plain old crayola colored pencils.   As I mentioned previously, I have a tendency to want to color things realistically, so a lot of my early pages are not overly exciting     If I was doing this page today, I'd probably leave him mainly pink, but have more variations in the details.   Regardless, I had a lot of fun coloring this one.

This one I started out testing out my watercolor pencils for the first time.   I used them on the background and didn't quite like them, so ended up using markers on the rest of the page.   I've since read more about the watercolor pencils and figured out what I was doing wrong, so I need to give them another try.   This is from the book:   Crea

I had a lot of fun with this page.  You can probably tell that at first I tried to keep the animals colored the way they would be in real life.  Somewhere along the way, I threw caution to the wind and just made them whatever color I happened to like, which is actually a bit hard for me.  This one happened to be one of the colored examples in the book it is out of and they had all the animals colored bright, fun colors, so I decided it was "ok" to try. This was do

Coloring Supplies ~ Coloring Books ~ Part 1

As you saw if you looked at my supplies set up post, I have a lot of coloring books.    I'm going to talk about 5 or so at a time so the posts don't get too long.   I really have no idea how many parts this will end up being as a result.    I may mix it up and add some gel pen/marker posts in between, as well. I really like the Design Originals and Creative Haven books, so that is mostly what I have.  I do have a few others, though.   Let's get started!

I choose this picture today because it shows off the Tri-Color pencils I mention in part 2 of my colored pencils post. The kitty is done using the pencil called "tiger" and it's been blended with the blending pencil.  The kitty's bib is also done using one of the Tri-Color pencils. The flower on the top of the hat and the bow tie are both done using the "fat" tri-color pencils. This pictur

Coloring Supplies ~ Colored Pencils ~ Part 2

I am just going to jump right in to the pencils today.   Koh-I-Noor Tri-Tone Pencil Set, Multi-Color, Set of 24 These are another favorite of mine.  Each pencil is 3 colors and they blend together in different ways every time you use them.  They are by the same company that makes the woodless pencils that are my favorite.   They hold up very well and color very smoothly.   They come in a very nice cas

My Coloring Supplies Setup

I had these pictures in my Coloring Supplies ~ Colored Pencils ~ Part 1 post, but for some reason they are giving me fits.  They keep showing up randomly in other posts and just generally being a PITA.   So I'm giving them their own post and hope that finally makes them happy and cooperative. This is a table next to my recliner:   Here is a labeled version so you can tell what is what: It's not an addiction.  Stop looking at me like that!

Did I mention I love Sugar Skulls?   This is another page done in felt tip pens and a few accents are done with metallic gel pens.  It's from the same book as the one I posted yesterday.   This is from: Day of the Dead Coloring Book (Coloring Is Fun) (Links are Free Jinger amazon.com affiliate)

Coloring Supplies ~ Colored Pencils ~ Part 1

Today, I thought I would talk about colored pencils.   I think I have just about every type of pencil out there, other than prismatic.  Ok so now that my dark secret is out, let's get on with the colored pencils   These are not in any particular order.  I will make comments on each of them. Crayola 30 Count Twistable Colored Pencils These are some of my favorite colored pencils and are quite reasonabl

I thought I would start a picture of the day to show different pictures I have done.  I'm not sure it will be literally *every* day because I don't always finish a page and my husband takes them to work to scan for me, so I get batches of 6-8 pages at a time, but we will give this a go. Feel free to add your pages in the comments, so that others can see what you have done or are working on. I love Sugar Skulls and

Welcome

I'm not sure why I decided to start another blog when I have a number of personal ones that are long neglected, I hate blogging and I have to try and figure out what to post on the FJ Blog as it is, but in a fit of apparent insanity while at my dr. appointment yesterday, I decided starting this blog was a Great Idea (tm). We have been talking about coloring in various places on FJ lately and one of my status updates sparked a bit of a conversation about it and I decided since I color like it's
