Bonus Episode: Need Building Advice!

Hi everyone! So I've started working on a custom TTH for the O'Hurleys to move into when the family gets a bit bigger. I'm not the greatest at building Sims homes, so I could use some input. Here is the layout as it stands right now.

Now obviously it's going to need at least one more bedroom. Ideally, I want to keep all the main living space on one floor and leave a basement open for laundry and a game room. Can someone who's good with layouts help me figure out how to fit another bedroom and more bathrooms on the main floor, or the basement if need be? I want to keep it to one main story to keep track of everyone more easily, but obviously, I want to have plenty of space for all future blessings. ;) TIA!

What is the reason for the hallway in the middle? I think you could combine the kitchen and living/dining room into a great room in an upside-down L shape keeping the kitchen location you have but opening up the wall, and add a  bedroom below it (closer to front of lot). You could also have a door in the kitchen open to a backyard BUT add a bedroom right next to the other bedroom on top, and have girl/boy bathrooms attached to those bedrooms like I believe they have in the real TTH. However, I am not a home designer and prefer to adjust pre-made plans so my suggestions may easily lead to an ugly home!

Good point! The hallway does take up unnecessary space. And yes, I was already planning on building bathrooms into each bedroom. I'm still not sure where to put a stairway to the basement, though?

I love sims building. I usually make rooms only as big as they have to be.

I am a fan of open plan living, so I would make the kitchen part of the main living area - you might fit a small kitchen along the top wall, and then make the kitchen into a bedroom, possibly extending further out into the back yard. I agree with @neurogirl and would remove the hallway, and also square off the main bed (does it need to be that large? Mine are usually 4x5 and i just have a double bed and room for a crib but you may like to put a dresser too) (oops sorry i see it is basically 4x5). Then you could square off the lower left corner with another bath (if you dont mind it facing the street! High privacy window?) for that bedroom and possibly even divide the existing bath into two 2x3 rooms which would still fit a loo, vanity and bath or shower giving each of those beds  bathroom. I'll attach an image so you can see what i actually mean, hang on...

Does this make sense? If you can grift it, I'd add a couple of bay windows at the front to make it pretty, and I can't remember off hand how much space you need for stairs, but you might fit some where I marked them in green. Yellow is an L-shaped kitchen, and I would remove the archway and replace with a door further down.

I just read your entries and died laughing. This looks so fun! I’ve always wanted to play sims. What’s the best platform for it? I’m not sure my laptop has enough memory for it, but I also have an Xbox 360 or Xbox one s.

Personally the layout that I like (or variations thereof) to use is below (I made the example on a 20x30 lot).  In the first pic the outline in red is where I tend to start, then I vary it from there.  If you wanted wider bedrooms on the right you could take a couple of tiles away from the middle (I like the main living area to be 8 wide, but six would work too 2).  I prefer dividing the kitchen and living because of the plates that need washing up going off...

The second pic is an example of what I have done on a larger lot (30x40 rather than 20x30).  Starting from the base outline in the first pic, then adding from there.

I wouldn't call my designs cutting edge, but functional... The nursery area is leftover from the sims 3 with the cribs, I would have a 2x3 room for a crib with an arched doorway.  This is no longer needed for sims 4.

viii, with the sims a computer is best as you can add a lot of custom content.  I'm not sure if this is possible on the xbox or not.

The problem with your idea, @Someone Out There, is that children have THEIR OWN ROOM and goodness knows what satan will lay upon their hearts if they are not with an accountability partner after dark...

@WineGlass but you could always have a longer style room for more of a dormitory setting!  The second pic isn't possible on a 20x30 lot which the OP was using, to get that many bedrooms you would need multiple stories.  In the first pic for more dormitory style, just make the bedrooms longer.

Realistically for a larger family I woud put the kitchen in the Kitchen/Bedroom area and make the living room longer to get in all the toys/instruments/furniture that people use.  I would maybe then make the bedrooms on the right 2 squares wider (or at least 1 square wider for sim navigation around beds purposes), have two bedrooms instead of 3 there (I just did a quick example of a layout that I might use).  Or if 3 bedrooms it would be that one bedroom would be for the oldest child when they grew up and got married and remained in the parental home.  You could also use the extra room as a gym for example.

There is always ways and means to get the accountability partner after dark!  For that matter, 2 bathrooms probably isn't sufficient anyway...

@Cam Anti-anxiety meds were life changing for me, too. I had to work on not going down the rabbit trail of "what if I'd been on these 20+ years ago?"

Agree 100% with everyone’s remarks on Gothard’s stance regarding meds for ADHD, PTSD, etc. In mid-life I was hit with severe anxiety due to a health crisis. No amount of journaling, meditating, exercising or praying (at the time I still held Christian beliefs) offered one tiny, single bit of relief. My doctor worked with me to find the right meds to help, and when I started taking it, I literally went from sitting on my sofa shaking to getting up and walking back into my life. I’ve continued on the meds and am pretty sure I probably had untreated anxiety since I was a teenager. My family, including siblings, were of the “tough it out” mentality. They viewed this kind of medicine as a crutch, a sign of weakness, and they ridiculed and criticized it. Nice people, right?

      So, yeah, fuck Gothard.

I'm sorry you went through that, and very glad that you feel better now. Fuck anyone who doesn't take people's suffering seriously.

It seems the police think there’s enough evidence to prove Mica Miller committed suicide. Even if she did commit suicide and her husband didn’t murder her, he needs to step down as pastor. It’s obvious he groomed her and divorced his wife to marry her. And she did claim he was abusive to many people. He sounds like he’s a dangerous person and should not be in a position of authority pastoring a church.

I’m sorry (no I’m not), but I’m just having too much fun with this whole bear vs man thing.
