And They Wonder Why I Check?
It's almost month end. And on the next to the last day (no, not the last day - we'll get to why on doing it now and not the last day) I send out reminders and do a monthly check for items that may have gotten into the system for my plants without a cost. Yes, I've learned to check that. Every month. I learned last September in a meeting, I might be the only one in our unit checking. And today? Today's check is WHY I check. Every month. Once that item gets out there with an active status, cost or not it is fair game and problems are going to arise from it. You know, like inventory on the books without a cost. Which is what happened. This gets better though. See, my plant has a distribution center in it. But the rule for the DC is that everyone costs their own stuff. I however monitor everyone's stuff. And, the offending part that went through as active without a cost is someone else's. And they generated inventory to boot.
I've sent the obligatory all hands on deck, reverse the inventory, cost the part and put it all back in notice. This can take a bit of time - which is why I do it on the next to the last and not the last day of the month. It's been a while since I've found something with live inventory. It does remind me that I need to lecture my new student (they hired someone for that other plant - yay!) about checking this without fail every month.
I'll confess, I might be feeling a bit smug on top of the 'seriously people?' moment.
