A YouTube Driven Trip Down Memory Lane

So after my viewing of the latest Rodriquii video I, as I am prone to doing, surfed YouTube.  I left one of my surfing finds in the Taylor Swift thread.  (Taylor and Def Lepard). Sadly I watched more than one of those videos and am working to clear my mind of the atrocity that as Taylor & Def Lep singing Pour Some Sugar on Me.  Ummm part of this collaboration relies on autotune and the other part came up without it and is/was produced by Mutt Lange who is a stickler.  (I spared you that video).  I'll aslo tell you I've seen Def Lep in concert 2 or 3 times back in the day.  Including when they performed in the round (square stage, 4 front rows, it was amazing)

So in clearing my mind that distaster I stumbled across Extreme.  More Than Words.  I love this song.  But every time I hear it I think of it being in rotation at the time on the soft rock station and played at work.  I remember someone I worked with at the time saying 'oh I love this song.'  Followed by my thinking, 'oh honey, some of the rest of the stuff on the album (Pornografiti) and their first (Extreme) would curl your hair without a perm.

Spoiler

That incident also reminds me of another metal song that played in the world of soft rock at the time.   Silent Lucidity by Queensryche.  (technically they're considered progressive metal but it's easier not to have to explain all the subcategories).  It's off their Empire album.  I rather wore out my cassette of their concept album (tells a story beginning to end) Operation Mind Crime.  Which fell into the too deep for mainstream consumption.  (By the way, I do know who killed sister mary).

I love both of those songs. I am an 80's music fan, in general. Mostly just the stuff I heard on the radio though. So basically things that even up on "best of.." albums or in the case of soft rock...things that were on those "Monster Ballads" compilation albums.

Ah Metal Power Ballads.

By the way I giggle at the fact that in the near future the music played at nursing homes will be rock.

From what we've seen of Shaun, I don't think he's done any of the parenting expect showing up in the family photos. Which isn't parenting at all. He's never there because of work travel and when he is (rarely) he's holed up in his office.  I'm convinced he never wanted 10 children, but now he has them he simply ignores parenting because he didn't/ doesn't want to parent 10 children.

Yup. When I was at my most fundy I attended a church where a lot of the fathers with large families did a lot of traveling for work. Looking back I wonder.  I'm sure some of them had jobs where they traveled that much and seemed like they were probably as quiverfull as their wife. But there were definitely a few who, looking back, I could see living a double life. Yes, maybe they traveled some for work but were also able to work remotely so they had someone/s on the side. ISB I could see some of the men (or Shaun for that matter)  who have entire other families but with only one or two children who they have a genuine connection with because they're not inundated with ten at once.

That’s right. Braggie’s bday is like 9 days after that in October I think. She always gets to take a trip for her birthday. The 4 twins get a fucking donut with a candle.

OK, FJ folks, I will check it out when the livestream is done. I need to clean the house, but that's OK - taking sit-down breaks to listen to Gary's ramblings in small increments will work out just fine.
