I Won the Lottery!

Okay...so I only won $7. Whatever. Let's just pretend for a minute that I won $900 million dollars and never had to worry about money again......

The very first thing I'd do is book a trip to Disneyland. It's one of my favorite places. I really wanted to go this year but we're bogged down with medical bills so no vacation for us. When we normally go, we stay off-site in a cheaper hotel. But this time, I'd book a suite at the Grand Californian. My husband said he'd want to book a signature suite at the Disneyland Hotel. But I told him that those things are huge and would be a pain to toddler proof.

Check out these photos of the Adventureland Suite....so not good for a 2 year old!

https://www.google.com/search?q=disneyland+hotel+adventureland+suite&espv=2&biw=1366&bih=643&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiS__njzJ7KAhWCSSYKHYmZBvEQ_AUIBigB

So I'd just want a 1-bedroom suite at the Grand Californian. It's still a way nicer room than we're used to. And it costs about 9 times more a night than we normally pay. If you scroll down at this link you can see some photos inside the 1-bedroom suite. I think it's nice.

One of my hobbies, if you can call it that, is looking at real estate websites. I just love looking at houses. Sometimes I look at houses in our price range. Other times, I look at the expensive homes. It's fun to dream. Even if I imagine having all the money in the world, I can never find the PERFECT house. So if we won a bunch of money, I'd probably want to build a house. I'd need to find a few acres to build on. I don't want to live in the middle of nowhere but I don't want to be right next to anyone either. I think finding the perfect lot would take a while. Once we found that, I have an idea of the type/style of home I'd like.

This is a house I saw a few years ago and I like a lot of things about it. It's not perfect, but it's pretty great.

http://www.zillow.com/homedetails/10195-Cottonwood-Creek-Blvd-Blair-NE-68008/2105840815_zpid/

I've seen fancier and larger houses. But I don't necessarily like "fancy" and there is such a thing as too big, I think. I want something large, but not massive. I want it to still have a warm/cozy feel to it.

As for the land....I'd want the entire property fenced in. And then a smaller area fenced in right off the house so that when I let the dog out, she doesn't disappear. I want an outdoor pool and hot tub. But...I also want an indoor pool and hot tub. That way I can swim year round. I want to have paved paths throughout the property. That way I can walk the dog and take my son out on walks and whatnot. A few years ago, I saw a house for sale that had something like this. If you click below and zoom out, you can see a satellite view of it...

Here are two photos (yes, I am a nerd and I save photos of the houses I like....)

I'd like nice landscaping but no pond. (If I didn't have a child, then I'd be okay with a pond.)

I'd hire people to pack us up and move us. I would also spend a lot of time purchasing new furniture and things for the new house.

The next things on my list would be a new car for me. Nothing crazy. Maybe a Subaru Impreza hatch back. And then a truck that can tow a travel trailer. Since we have no experience with a travel trailer, we'd start with a smaller one. Something like this....

http://www.forestriverinc.com/product-details.aspx?LineID=178&ShowParent=1&ModelID=2412#Main

That would be pretty much it for initial, large purchases.

I'd maybe offer to pay my neighbor a bit of money to let me punch him in the gut or kick him in the balls. I'm not really a violent person but that may be slightly satisfying for me.

I would give various family members some money. Probably a larger amount initially. And then a smaller amount annually.

There are tons of smaller things I'd buy myself. Basically the unnecessary stuff I rarely let myself buy now. Tons of books, coloring books, clothes, shoes, etc. I also like to collect some stuff but my collections are currently quite small. So I'd buy more of my knick-knack type things. Disney pins, Funko Pop figures, Barbies, Jim Shore figures. I'd buy tons of decorations for every holiday. I'd, of course, go crazy buying toys and things for my son.

Speaking of my son....I'd find a speech therapist that would come to my house often instead of us having to drive 30 minutes each way once a week.

There are many vacations I'd love to be able to take in my lifetime. Far too many to list.

Hmm....I can't think of any other things. I'm sure there are plenty more. But that's the basics.

I don't think my $7 is going to cover all of this.

(Oh...wanted to add I would also spend a fair amount of money on things NOT for myself. Various charities. Kids in need. Dog rescue. Etc. Etc. Many, many things I'd love to be able to help with.)

That was impressive, and fast. Clearly you didn't need encouragement. I like it.

Immediately, I know I'd make my husband quit his horrible job and pay off the house.

Longer term- college funds for the kids in the family. Build another house- I like our current location but I'd like more land and a workshop. It's hard to find nicer houses here that are still a reasonable size- what on earth would I do with 6 bedrooms?

If I won a TON of money though, this one is very tempting: http://www.zillow.com/homedetails/6839-Stanley-Ave-Carmichael-CA-95608/26086850_zpid/

Yeah, my husband and I were talking about what we'd do so it was pretty easy...ha! And @lawfulevil Nice views!

Oh, as for college...you wouldn't really need to set anything aside. With 500 million or whatever the lump sum was...you can spend millions a year. So money would seriously never even take a 2nd thought. You can just pay for everything as you need it. It would be amazing.

I'd also go to Disney (but all of them, home and abroad lol). But I would go ALL OUT.

And finally stay at the Contemporary.

I would be looking for a new home. Land and views. Vacations for my adult children of their choice. Vacation for hubby and myself. Look for a pug or two

Oh, I meant nieces and nephews and my cousin's daughter and whatnot. Setting up a fund ahead of time for stuff you mean to do and sticking to it. Cut down on the relatives (who never showed the slightest interest in you before) turning up hat-in-hand all the time, which seems to be a HUGE problem for lotto winners.

For WDW, I'd probably pick one of the Epcot resorts. Beach Club or Yacht Club maybe. It would be great to walk to Epcot since it's my favorite park there. It would be quite a step up from our usual stay at Pop Century. :)

The only people I'd give money too (besides charity) would be my siblings and parents and my husband's siblings and parents. I figure that makes it easy. I just have way too many cousins and extended family.

I think I would:

1. make a sizable donation to Bernie Sanders

2. Buy a new house.

3. Get rid of most of my clothes and buy a new coordinated wardrobe.

4. Start investing in businesses.

5. Use that wealth to make more money and buy politicians to create laws that prevent politician buying.

I worked at Epcot. It's definitely "home" but not my favorite park if that makes sense. Still bitter they closed Maelstrom.

@purple_summer Me too! That and Spaceship Earth are/were my favorite rides there. Our last visit was 2012. I wish I'd known it would be the last time to ride Maelstrom.

I'd probably

-get a masters degree

-go on a tour of east Asia (Japan through Indonesia) but not a super duper expensive one, just a quality one

-Stock up on some products at Lush and Sephora

But I'd probably also put a big chunk of it in my IRA/some other kind of savings. I'm young yet, and need to do some future planning lol. I mean, winning the lottery would make for a FABULOUS retirement if it happened now lol.

If you have 800 million dollars, you really don't need to worry about savings. Haha!

I hate open concept houses almost as much as I hate Abbie's cluttery "style." I hate that open concept became a trend and I feel like I've been screaming at clouds since like 2008 when it first started being "the trendy way." It seemed like at the time everyone wanted it so that they could see the TV from everywhere. But it's so impractical. Noise just bounces around. Ever go to a party at a house with just the big cavern with a kitchen in the corner? It get so noisy that people are shouting at each other. Vs a normal house, where people can go into other spaces to socialize in smaller groups - you can have some people in the kitchen, some in the living room, some in the family room. And it's just so frustrating when you need to find a way to close the kitchen to keep dogs and kids out.

I also think braggie's fridge is dumb. It comes with a pitcher for water. Great. I can buy a $35 pitcher with a filter and fill it in the sink and get the same result.

Their level of agressive entitlement is unreal. Too bad their fellow anti-work comrades aren't helping them out.

But where do they wash their hands after taking money and before handing over open, unwrapped food? How does the department of health track down who donated the Salmonella pie, if they aren't required to keep a list of who donated what product? How do the volunteers keep the open and unwrapped food from being contaminated by nonfood materials if it's just sitting on a table in a gym or in a parking lot.

Any I have been to in Germany and New Zealand had one person handling the cash and other people serving. Plus power and hand washing facilities. Usually with a few tables and chairs right next to the sale area to sit and eat immediately.
Plus all the ones in Germany I saw had display cabinets for the products like in cafes. I think the ones in NZ usually had insect shields and/or see through lids and weren’t right at the front edge of the table.

They have a “champagne lifestyle” on OTHER peoples “beer budget”

“Champagne wants” is probably a better word than lifestyle, though the fact that they demand it and insist on being entitled to it makes it more than a want in my eyes. 🤷‍♀️
