This is a quicky I whipped out while waiting for the dr. to come into the exam room on Thurs.  I'm not sure I love the light purple in the middle now that I'm looking at it again, but I think the dark purple/teal combo is something I should explore more often.  I also used the worst color green, it seems.   Not sure why I thought that was a good color to use at the time.

I think if you added a bit more light yellow in the middle or an orange it would pop in the way you want. The whole complemetary colors thing and all. I like th e purple and teal. I just ordered a shirt in those colors.

I'm not into digital "coloring" because a huge part of what I love about it is physical;  the feel and sound of the marker moving over the paper, the smells, moving the picture around to reach small areas, holding the marker itself, seeing the color flowing onto the paper, the feel of the paper/coloring book, capping and uncapping the markers and hearing them click together as I look for the one I want, etc.  Is that a big part of the pleasure of coloring for you? It's almost like meditating or something to get into all of it...the time just flows by. This is also why I prefer to read actual books I can hold and turn the pages of instead of a reading device. Guess I'm just old-fashioned!  Anyway, before I got on my soapbox, I wanted to say that the purple and teal is very good together and I think I'm going to look into getting a teal marker.  My choice would have been yellow on the inner part of the flower with the light purple where you have yellow.  Also think a different green would have worked better for the stems with the other colors...agree with you on that. Maybe the teal would have been good there too...what do you think?  :my_shy:

It IS meditation.  I have a coloring app on my kindle.  But I don't get the same feel.  I don't go into a zone with it.  But I'm glad the apps are out there.

I also like the physicality. However-

  • there's no mess
  • easy to fix mistakes
  • easy to try different colors
  • I don't have roaming data on my ipad but I do carry it back and forth to work for and hour each day. This is something to do besides read or stare out the window.
  • Following from that last one, I used to be the person who attempted to carry markers, a sketchbook, 5 books, a crossword book, and 6 magazines with me when I traveled. I still do take those things, but less of them. I go to things like Burning Man, where packing space is at a premium. I also have neck and back issues.

I recently was looking over my collection of reference type books and I realized all of them were unnecessary due to the internet. But one day the internet might crash. So I'm keeping them.

Nothing will ever replace the feel of a real book. I love books. I love libraries. But it is cool to be able to access a book the second you want it. Or to browse a digital library when you are bored. Or sample books. I don't have to request 19 books at a time from the library to figure out which ones I want.

The coloring is therapeutic. I like both kinds. But the books do cost money and I always get bored with them quickly. I love pens though. I really will sit with the gelly rolls and fill in blank space. I do it at work.

Digital art is something that I believe is evolving. That's just how that works. Art adapts to new mediums.

Mostly though it's about mess and space. I'd be oil painting if I had a space for it. I can't even take the colored pencils in bed with me. I have to walk three blocks to do laundry. Nope.

My cat with the heart murmur is always around $400 because he gets an chest xray and murmur specific bloodwork along with whatever vaccines he needs that year. The other one's $55 for the exam and like 35 for whatever vaccine he needs. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt on the animal stuff. But the flight cost seems oddly high.

I'm curious as to why the person paying for the flight isn't paying for luggage. Was it so Art & Ryann have to put something into this move? Or was it a boundary that was put up when Art & Ryann wanted to fly everything they own onboard and their donor balked at how unreasonable they were being so their dinor pushed back. I could easily see someone saying "I'll pay for one item" but Art & Ryann insisting they'd need not only numerous checked bags paid for but that the donor would also need to buy them luggage. At that point I think a lot of people would take offense to that and say no to covering even one suitcase after that.

There is no way they need $300 to check a suitcase at the airport.  The bag will be $50 at most.  Probably something like $35.  They could check 6+ bags for $300.  They could easily find a suitcase for less than $100 on facebook marketplace.  A cursory search in my location (california) shows lots of them for $50 or less.

I almost always fly Alaska and have like whatever level of MVP (gold?), but I also live in Alaska. And Alaskan Air is the absolute best for us. They let Alaskan residents check bags for free, and are so awesome for pets. Every flight I get on has so many animals.

Anyway, one time we took a spirit air flight from location a on east coast to location b on east coast. And it was so expensive! Like we had to pay to carry on bags (normally not an issue but we had three each and it was less expensive to carry on) and pay to reserve seats! I heard Frontier has a fee to check bags and it's like $100!

Their estimates of costs are just way off.  Take the vet visits.  Maybe $100 for the visit.  $50 for meds (high estimate - they don't need a lot of sedative).  $40 for a travel litter box and litter  (they definitely don't need more than 1 and most likely the cat will not use it).  That is less than $200 total.  Is it really over $100 for rides to and from the vet? Maybe but I dunno.

My bougie alaska vet would be about $80  for the visit and $20-$50 for meds. The plane, though, usually charges $150 for animals in cabin.

I’d rather be a Bates if for no reason other than trading in a history of sexual abuse for no sexual abuse. Honestly, I’d give anything not to have that history.
