Picture of the Day ~ 12.08.15

I took a page out of  @Tikobaby's book with this one.   I mostly like it, but I wish I'd done a couple things differently.   I'm not fond of the blue eyes on ALL of them.  I wish I'd used maybe gold or at least varied their eye color on each seahorse.   I'm also not thrilled with my color choices on the yellow one.  It's a little better looking in the scan, actually.   On the real one, the yellow I used on the head/belly is kind of a dark, icky yellow.  I'd almost call it like a "urine" yellow.  It's just not appealing with the bright color of the rest of teh seahorse.

Overall, I'm happy with it though and I learned that "unrealistic" animals won't make me burst into flame or anything bad ;)

As you know, I love "unrealistic" animals and can't stop coloring them that way!  I like your seahorsies and think they are very eye-catching in their bright colors. The blue eyes are pretty and make them seem related, but different colors would have been a good contrast. Especially like the red one,  (big surprise), and the blue one with the contrasting face and dorsal fin...but all the colors work. I like the way the different yellows look on the seahorsie you think is a mite urine colored.    I did this page too, but wasn't too pleased with the quality of the markers I used since it was one of the very first ones I colored and I think I used those Pentels. I didn't post my version and your version is much better than mine.

First of all, your commentary on this one cracked me up!

I think this is really cool. The colours are great and your sea looks really smooth!  I like the urine coloured one and I take pity on him because he probably feels a little rejected. (He's like, why am I the only one Curious selected 'Urine' for? Sorry, that whole thing just tickles me.). He doesn't look uriny at all to me.  I really like the whole picture. Awesome colours!

Next on the coloring horizon, Prismacolor's new brush tip Premier marker, "Clear Urine Yellow"...just for Curious!  :kitty-wink:

It'll be lovely with the Orchid.

The eyes are indeed, well, creepy.

They are a little Villiage of the Damned aren't they?   I did all the eyes first and it seemed like a good idea, but once I was done I thought it was not the best choice.

They all have different head, fin and sometimes tummy color from the main body.  Some have much more contrast than others, like the green one.   The scan is a bit weird because the yellow actually looks better than the real one and the green one shows much more contrast than the real one.

I don't know why it's so hard to get a realistic pic/scan of pages.

I'm not a huge fan of yellow to begin with, so having the "urine" seahorse was a bit disappointing, especially after @Tikobaby's gorgeous vibrant yellow.

A creepy little seahorsie village...LOL!  I thought they were cute.

I’m betting Haley’s parents paid for the honeymoon. Imagine getting married as a teenager and going on a honeymoon like that.

Apparently Carver Bowers and his wife Haley returned a week early from their honeymoon "to surprise her family". Sounds to me as if she was homesick. I guess that's what happens if you rush into marriage as a sheltered 19-year-old 🥹
Or maybe they just got bored at their fancy resort in the Bahamas ...

      Spoiler

My grandma always said "architects don't cook" in reference to impractical building trends.

Also there are peole who buy houses because they are impressive, but don't think about the practical side. I have a relative who built a house with a 2 story glass foyer (it very rare here) only to realise later that it needs a professional cleaning service their town hasn't (the windows are so high they need a high stair to be cleaned and that is more expensive that a normal cleaning service). So the cleaners come from a further town and it  increases the bill. They are a very clean couple and are desperate when it rains, the glass gets dirty but the cleaners can't come immediately. Also it's very sunny at summmer and cold at winter and the electricity bill is high. My conclusion is that 2 story *glass wall* is for the rich or for people not obsessed with cleanness.

I live in a house built in 1948. So no new building trends anywhere to be found. I admit I’ve always hated the big two story open foyers and great rooms. For one thing, I always imagine it as wasted space. I think about how a bedroom could be on the second floor in that space. Then I also think about painting. I’m the person who does all the painting in our home. But if we lived in a house where there is a two story great room, I would have to hire it out. Because I’m afraid of ladders. I don’t trust them and I’ve seen too many people fall off of them. So that’s a bunch of money to pay someone to paint instead of doing it myself. On top of all that, I do wonder if it increases the heating and cooling bill in two story rooms. It may not be a huge increase, but I bet there is at least some increase. Especially if the upper windows aren’t able to be covered in the summer and there is direct sunlight.

In which Lucas & Kara Botkin let it all out:

Maybe that reporter will do a follow up that involves serious research.

This thread isn't very active, but the podcast Be There in Five interviewed Olivia and I thought it was super interesting, answered a lot of questions I had had: https://bethereinfive.com/podcast/2024/3/10/welcome-back-to-plathville-feat-olivia-plath

It was really interesting, thanks. I also listened to her earlier episode that did a deep dive into Plathville. She said that she had read through Ethan and Olivia’s Venmo transactions (apparently that’s public?!) and they kept their finances so separate that they frequently sent money back and forth for little things.
