Birthday Cake: Torta Russa (Russian Cake)

After watching  Marc Marquez sabotaging the motogp championship I badly need a leftover slice of my birthday cake. Luckily the day after it tastes even better. 20151107_225008.thumb.jpg.2f28e7c39b8e09 It's called Torta Russa (Russian Cake) even if it's typical of Verona because it looks like a Russian fur hat. It's not the most beautiful cake but it's my favourite,  it tastes like heaven for me. Ingredients: 150gr butter, 150 gr sugar, 4 eggs, 100gr flour, 200gr amaretti, 50gr non peeled almonds, 50gr chocolate. Start whipping the butter with half of the sugar20151107_121030.thumb.jpg.5cd64fbaa62a6e  for 20 whole minutes,  it's important to continue for 20 minutes even if after 10 mins the butter will start pretending to be o ready, it's crucial for the result to go on. After 20 minutes,20151107_122927.thumb.jpg.5a036624c811c9 add the four yolks one at a time, before adding another yolk wait until the one before is completely absorbed20151107_123118.thumb.jpg.96abb2fc0d21dd . Add the flour. 20151107_123505.thumb.jpg.92d70943a7bb4c Stirring carefully bottom up add the  almonds, chocolate and amaretti everything roughly minced. Wash the whip and whip the albumens with the remaining sugar 20151107_125023.thumb.jpg.ebd763172588b9 and add stirring carefully bottom up. Put everything it a pot lined with French pastry 20151107_125756.thumb.jpg.cecfaaabf8f0b8 and cook in oven at 180ºC for an hour, feel the inside with a toothpick to check if it's ready. And then enjoy the cake.20151107_182148.thumb.jpg.e48f7d12ff627a  :56247957a2c7b_32(17):

After two slices I'm nearly reconciled with the world despite Marquez's debauchery.

I wonder if pate brisee (spelling?) is the same as French pastery. This is an interesting recipe. I may have to try it sometime in the next few weeks. Thank you for sharing!

I bet it is. If you make it, will you post about it?

I am the worst food blogger ever. I just noticed that I forgot to mention the baking powder in the ingredients  :pb_redface: well at least I noticed and now you know. It's not a key ingredient since there's so little flour, but it would probably alter the result in the end.

People on Reddit think Joy wasn't there, which is understandable since she went through something similar. Going to something like that would probably just bring all that pain back up.

I don't think I'd find it understandable if it was me. I'd side-eye my sister if she didn't attend my child's funeral, especially knowing how deep the grief is. I would hope that my sister would be there for me, since she would be able to relate the most.

I understand how some trauma can be triggering, but I also think there comes a point where we need to be there for loved ones. If Joy had just lost her daughter within the last year, that might have been a different story.

It's a fine line between protecting yourself and supporting loved ones.

A little aside, but one thing I've wondered about since Josh's case is, well, the muck behind Covenant Eyes.

CE takes screenshots of any activity that it deems "suspicious"* and then blurs them (in a way they claim cannot be unblurred, but I'm doubtful). In any case, it appears they do this to protect the "monitoring allies" from seeing all the porn their husbands are watching or whatever, but.

But. This means that CE has to put that screenshot in its database, blur (and then encrypt it, they claim), and store it somewhere for the report for the accountability ally user. Which is...okay. But I've always wondered, does this mean there is actually a database that includes CSAM sitting on the CE servers?

They seem to allude to this being a possibility in their End User Agreement.

I don't think we'll ever see this kind of thing in court (in any capacity) but it has struck me as strange since Josh's case that this private company is distributing (blurred) screenshots of unknown material and is also designed specifically to store all these images into their own databases and how do you even...legally manage such a database and...? And how do they know that content is illegal? Are they monitoring it to just terminate it and...? Not report? Do they have any (legal) duty to report? I don't think so. Do they have any ability to report this? (They will give over your info when requests by a court, but that's standard.)

It's such a strange app to me and its always seemed like you could get a big can of worms about it when it comes to cases like Josh.

*Tumblr, a few years ago, used a similar early AI to detect "adult" content but ended up banning a lot of pictures of sand dunes because if you are a robot, the curves of a sand dune look roughly the same as those of a pale-to-tan naked lady because...that's a robot and it doesn't know.

If I was implementing this, I would be blurring before putting in the database. Now I’m also very doubtful that it can’t be unblurred, at least enough to reconstruct recognizable things, but blurring is also likely to save space, so even from a database and systems design perspective, I would be surprised if they saved the original images somewhere permanently, also due to legal liability.

I don't think it's a genuine MCM. I think it's an imitation. A $6000 piece of forniture in perfect shape is not sold for $500. Yes, sometimes this happens, but I suspect Abbie is lying to appear as the smartest buyer. She is noot overspending, she is nooot spoiled, she is investing!

She talked about how the little children were taking bread from the pantry and putting it in there. So maybe it was clean when it came home but then the food got in it?

I think she just lied.  She didn't want to admit that she hadn't even opened the cabinet and cleaned it out so she blamed it on the boys.  They'd have no reason to put bread in there and, honestly, it didn't look like bread crumbs.  Abbie was so excited over her latest ugly find that it hadn't occurred to her to clean it up first.

I think the little boys just get up to lots of shenanigans because Braggie refuses to supervise them.
