Being Married to a Gardener has its Perks...

When I'm not scraping, sanding, staining, or painting something, I'm usually in the kitchen. Sadly, all the home improvement projects have currently taken precedence over cooking. Thankfully, my husband is an awesome gardener and brings me wonderful tomatoes that don't need anything to be mouthwatering.

A few minutes work and you have this...

Some toasted bread, mayonnaise, sliced garden fresh tomatoes, lemon basil, and a little salt. I know the first freeze is coming and I want to enjoy these babies while I still can.

My Grandpa was also a great gardener.  He had made most of the yard into one big garden that he put so much time and energy into.  Grandpa passed his skills down to his children and my mom has a pretty good garden now that she gets a lot of vegtables out of - tomatoes, radishes, lettuce, carrots, and potatoes.  After Grandpa left us Grandma didn't want to keep it going so she turned it back into an ordinary yard.

What sort of tomatoes are the yellow and the deep purple ones? Do they taste the same as other tomatoes?

I'm trying to be a gardener, but can't grow house plants.  Thankfully hubby has a very green thumbs.  The tomatoes didn't farewell, but that is fine since I hate don't really like them for just eating, (it is a texture thing with me). But I'm amazed at all the different varieties and sizes of them that I see at the grocery store.

Perhaps pear tomatoes?  I'm not sure on whether they taste different or not.

The purple ones are called Indigo Rose, and they are only purple on the outside.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the yellow ones are called Gold Nugget.

I'll ask my husband if he remembers when he gets home. Both varieties do taste the same as other tomatoes.

You should see me when he goes out of town and I'm trying to follow all of his instructions. :pb_eek:  As I'm watering, I'm begging the plants not to die on me and asking them to please hold on until he gets back.

I asked my husband about the yellow ones, and he also thinks they are called Gold Nugget.
