I'm as mild and as meek As a mouse
Today in my gardening adventures I've been trying to plant out my tomatoes. I say trying because I can only garden in 10 minute spurts before I get overheated and start melting. Apparently it's meant to storm today. It's currently hot and humid.
Part of my house is full of seedlings and the rest are in the greenhouse. Now if all the seedlings were in one place currently half of my greenhouse would be filled with pots. Ick! I only had one tomato planted out already; a cherry tomato that the next day was beheaded by a slug. It has managed to survive and is growing side shoots which makes me happy.
In order to plant tomatoes I had to clear out the side of the greenhouse. I picked up one of my polystyrene trays and found a lot of white foam there and two big holes in the ground. From the size of the holes I'm guessing it was a mouse that was trying to get revenge on me because I turned the compost (all their much loved pumpkin seeds are now gone). I was not impressed. They tried eating three of the trays. And I thought my biggest problem this year was going to be slugs...
Currently there is an wheelbarrow full of compost in the greenhouse pissing me off. That is my fault because I did sieve it all and put it there, but that's because there was no other place. At least my tomatoes will be well fed. There are now 8 tomato plants planted (I think 3 different types, but I umm forgot which are which...). There are still a few more than could/should get planted by they may have to wait until tomorrow.
Something had been digging/pulling up my onions and garlic sets. They aren't eating them, just pulling them up and leaving them on the ground. Also - where I haven't sown phacelia this year seems to be growing it more evenly than where I did, apparently I did a bad job. That stuff self-seeds like crazy. It is going to suck having to weed the potato patch this year.
And talking of weeds. The common horsetail and bindweed have gone insane!
But I did get my strawberry patch weeded and prepped so I can try and put my netting over it (or at least some of it). A few plants did die, but I doubt I'll be missing them much. I also managed to catch some slugs in my beer trap. Last year we caught spiders and other useful insects and no slugs, so yay!
Rambo has been missing lately, which makes me blame him for not catching that damn evil mouse!
