I Need a T.V. Show

ClaraOswin

I need to find a t.v. show to watch while walking on the treadmill.

I cannot seem to motivate myself to get on the treadmill these days. So I am thinking if I can find a t.v. show to watch on Netflix or Amazon Prime, that might motivate me. I will only let myself watch it while walking (of course this all depends on whether or not my son naps each day but whatever.)

So I can't figure out what to watch. In my life, I've watched a lot of t.v. Probably too much but let's not talk about that.

Any suggestions of shows I might like?

Here's a list of shows I have watched to give you an idea of the kind of garbage I enjoy....(in no particular order....)

Veronica Mars

Arrested Development

Doctor Who

Torchwood

Broadchurch

Parks and Recreation

30 Rock

Friends

How I Met Your Mother

Desperate Housewives

Dexter

Gossip Girl

How I Met Your Mother

The Office

You, Me, and the Apocalypse

Fringe

Downton Abbey

Call the Midwife

Baskets

Jane the Virgin

Freaks and Geeks

The League

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

Sherlock

Luther

Cranford

Pushing Daisies

So yeah....there are some shows I like. There are probably a million more (which I may add as I think of them.) These are the first ones I could think of.

Any t.v. show recommendations are welcome! :)

On Amazon Transparent, Mozart in The Jungle, Big Love (or much of the old HBO stuff), mad dogs

Netflix: Bates Motel, United States of Tara, American Horror Story, Nurse Jackie, Black Mirror (British, dark, scifi), grace and frankie, orange is the new black, californication, derek (ricky gervais), mad men, hell on wheels, breaking bad

oh and if you liked the league, eastbound and down is hilarious (total guy humor - hbo- not sure if on amazon)

I haven't heard of some of these. I'll look into them this weekend. Thanks!

I have seen and enjoy Archer and Bob's Burgers.

Another problem I'm having....there are a lot of shows listed that my husband wants to watch sometime too so I'll probably wait to watch those. That is limiting my choices a bit. Though I typically don't mind re-watching shows...sometimes it's fun to watch it for the first time with someone else.

I tried Hell on Wheels once and I couldn't get into it. Bates Motel started out okay but I got bored with it.

I don't want anything too dark/creepy because I get freaked out watching that stuff alone...haha. So something like American Horror Story is probably out. Is Orange is the New Black creepy?

We watched the first episode of Derek a long time ago and it really made me sad so we haven't watched anymore. My husband said it probably just made me super sad because I was pregnant and hormonal at the time. May have to give that one another shot sometime.

Orange is the New Black is not creepy at all. It's a comedy/drama crossover about a women's prison. It's engaging.

I think HBO Now also has Oz.

Sometimes I prefer movies on the dreadmill over TV. I'm not sure why.

I haven't really been as into movies the last few years. I have no idea why. But if t.v. doesn't motivate me, I'll probably give movies a try.

We watch a LOT of the same tv. I also like Arrow, iZombie, LOVING Lucifer (it's written by Neil Gaiman), and Colony on USA was a lot of fun.

Amazon has all of Oz, The Wire. Those are gritty not scary. They have a bunch of the old hbo stuff. Those two shows are two of the best dramas ever made, in my opinion. I love Big Love too.

Derek is sweetly sad/funny. might try again. But yes, weepy-me too

I really think if you could get into Dexter, Bates is awesome....that kid is phenomenal.

Also on netflix-british show called black books. Set in bookstore.

I knew I liked you!

I'd add West Wing, even Parenthood. A little soap-y but that is sometimes what I want. Oh and Scandal. There's more I'm sure but my bed is unmade and a film crew may stop by. (Not scheduled, but you never know. )

I'm  going to hype my still all time favorite series - Battlestar Galactica (reimagined not the original) if you can find it.

Amazon Prime has The Americans.  And Orphan Black.

Inspector Morse/Insepctor Lewis/Endeavor (I believe I had to go back and forth between netflix and Amazon to find all of them) are excellent.

If you like Bob's Burgers, you may want to try Home Movies. It is an earlier Loren Bouchard show with some of the same voice talents that are in BB (I love me some Jon Benjamin!). I think there are 4 or 5 seasons, and it's super funny and quirky.

It follows 3 2nd or 3rd grade kids and their school life, after-school soccer tribulations (with a giving zero fucks coach, who is voiced by Benjamin), and their obsession with making movies.

Hilarious!

ETA: The complete series is on Hulu right now.

Have you watched Extras?  Unless you are not a Ricky Gervais fan, it is very, very good. One of my favourite series ever.

I love Orphan Black and The Americans, but they're both pretty dark -- not necessarily creepy, though, since I think they're both pretty easily separated from reality. But it seems like you prefer things that are lighter in mood and subject matter, and neither of them have a comedic aspect at all.

I definitely second the Parenthood recommendation. I think the full series is on Netflix (if not the last season would probably be added by the time you got there). It's really engaging and frequently quite touching.

Also, Bomb Girls, which is on Netflix. It's sort of in the vein of Call the Midwife, but set in a WWII munitions factory in Canada.

OH and Big Love (on Amazon Prime). It feels a bit dated now, but I enjoyed it.

Yay! Our family loves that show. In fact, my daughter just recently started re-watching it. We have a whole slew of family catch-phrases that originated from that show. E.g.: "DVD!!!!!" (said in a slightly drunken, moronic voice), "Video films," "Meow, McGuirk....Kitty meow....Kitty wants some milk...."

I enjoy Orphan Black. I think it's coming back soon, actually.

Parenthood....I watched all but the last season or two, I think. I just got too annoyed by it. I didn't really like any of the characters.

LOVE Extras. Would like to re-watch it but I don't think it's on either service I pay for.

I need to make a list of all the other shows people have mentioned that I haven't seen so I can watch trailers on youtube and pick one to try. I need to get my butt on the treadmill!

If you want something light, there was a British tv series called Coupling on tv about 10 years ago, which went for several seasons.  We really enjoyed them, and ended up buying the DVDs.  It could be a little crass at times, but very funny.

Netflix has all the episodes of White Collar up. Discovered it a few years ago and love it. It was inspired by Catch Me If You Can. It's a drama/crime show (not scary) but also really witty with a great cast.

I hate open concept houses almost as much as I hate Abbie's cluttery "style." I hate that open concept became a trend and I feel like I've been screaming at clouds since like 2008 when it first started being "the trendy way." It seemed like at the time everyone wanted it so that they could see the TV from everywhere. But it's so impractical. Noise just bounces around. Ever go to a party at a house with just the big cavern with a kitchen in the corner? It get so noisy that people are shouting at each other. Vs a normal house, where people can go into other spaces to socialize in smaller groups - you can have some people in the kitchen, some in the living room, some in the family room. And it's just so frustrating when you need to find a way to close the kitchen to keep dogs and kids out.

I also think braggie's fridge is dumb. It comes with a pitcher for water. Great. I can buy a $35 pitcher with a filter and fill it in the sink and get the same result.

Their level of agressive entitlement is unreal. Too bad their fellow anti-work comrades aren't helping them out.

But where do they wash their hands after taking money and before handing over open, unwrapped food? How does the department of health track down who donated the Salmonella pie, if they aren't required to keep a list of who donated what product? How do the volunteers keep the open and unwrapped food from being contaminated by nonfood materials if it's just sitting on a table in a gym or in a parking lot.

Any I have been to in Germany and New Zealand had one person handling the cash and other people serving. Plus power and hand washing facilities. Usually with a few tables and chairs right next to the sale area to sit and eat immediately.
Plus all the ones in Germany I saw had display cabinets for the products like in cafes. I think the ones in NZ usually had insect shields and/or see through lids and weren’t right at the front edge of the table.

They have a “champagne lifestyle” on OTHER peoples “beer budget”

“Champagne wants” is probably a better word than lifestyle, though the fact that they demand it and insist on being entitled to it makes it more than a want in my eyes. 🤷‍♀️
