Stars in my eyes

I enjoy astronomy, although on a strictly amateur basis. I've never joined an astronomical society or anything, but I enjoyed my Astronomy 101 class so much in college. When I became a mom, I let my subscription to Astronomy Magazine lapse (not enough time or money), but I still love to stop and have a quick look at the night sky whenever I can.

I have loved this poem by Robert Frost since the first time I read it.

Canis Major
by Robert Frost

The great Overdog,
That heavenly beast
With a star in one eye,
Gives a leap in the east.

He dances upright
All the way to the west
And never once drops
On his forefeet to rest.

I'm a poor underdog
But tonight I will bark
With the great Overdog
That romps through the dark.

Growing up in the country, away from all the distracting city lights, I always had a love affair with the night sky.  Even that phrase, 'night sky', just seems so romantic and special.  I knew all the major constellations and found them easily, and camped out most all summer just so I could stargaze.  Thank you for reminding me of that.

Beautiful poem by Frost.  I didn't know it.

I loved reading that poem, thank you for sharing it.  I love looking at the sky at night, I have ever since I was small and realised I have a star of my own to take me to Neverland in my dreams, I always looked for my star from my window before I went to sleep, my name is Wendy, the same as the character from Peter Pan.  I still show my daughter my star when we are out at night and I can see it.
