From some free mandala kindle book. I'm not happy with the center. IMG_20160217_171618.thumb.jpg.b6cd7d2f71

Free dover color by number butterfly

I printed the top on on normal paper 80gsm. The butterfly is on 90gsm. The second was way nicer to color because it didn't bleed and soak the paper quite as much. If anyone wants a comparison of the backs of the pictures it is in the spoiler.

I like them both.   I like the mandala, but the center does seem a little "off" from the rest of the pattern.  The colors are fine, IMO.  It just looks like it should be part of a different mandala.  It's a little jarring with all the white, as well.   I wonder if you filled in the white areas with a very light color if it wouldn't take some of the edge off and make it look more "part" of the mandala vs "apart" from it (hopefully that makes sense.)

Thanks for showing the backs of the different weight papers.  It's interesting to see the difference.  I'm going to get my printer sorted eventually, so good info to have.

I like the colors, for sure, but agree that the center is jarring.

yes. The moral of the story is never color the center of those things first!

As someone who likes mandalas, I typically start at the center and work out - but that's just me.

In this case I don't necessarily think it is how you colored the mandala.  I think the artist made the center jarringly different than the rest of the mandala.   It doesn't flow with the rest of the design.

I love the butterfly picture!  It almost looks like a painting.

I think the centre of the mandala might look better if you brought in one of the yellowy tones you used elsewhere.  I agree with clueliss that the 'fault' is with the design, though.  Otherwise, I really like it!
