The Owl & The Pussycat Went To Sea...

Just finished this one!  The holiday time off has given me the opportunity to color, color, color!   Hope I'm not hogging the blog with my posts.  Once again, the original page's colors are more vivid, but I did the best I could to get a good photo to post.  This is from the Owls book by Creative Haven.

This is the difference between you and me, I think. I saw this book and didn't buy it!!!!!

I've said it before, but you really are so very talented!  When I get home I think I will get the owl book. It'll be fun to have different interpretations.

I love this!

Thank you so much!  I'm glad you like it.  Wish I could get my camera to take a photo that accurately reproduces the colors...am not sure why they're always a bit off.  Anyway, this is fairly close. The owl book is by the same artist who did my favorite book, Creative Cats. Her name is Marjorie Sarnat and her designs are just fabulous!  She's got a dog book coming out next May, too.  I look forward to seeing your versions of the pages in the owl book when you get it!  I just started working on another page from it;  the page with the owl on top of an old-fashioned style map that says "Here There Be Owls" on it. Old maps used to say something like "Here There Be Monsters" in areas they weren't too sure about....cool!

Nothing to do with coloring, but I loved this book so much growing up that I still have it memorized. I used to recite it to my babies after I ran out of songs.

I commented in my head the first time, apparently.   Since none of you seem to be mind readers, I guess I shall type it out for you ;)

This is another gorgeous one, @Tikobaby   I really love the blues you used.  They look lovely together.   I tend to use shades of the same color without enough contrast and then I don't like it after I have it done.  I need to start testing colors rather than relying on the barrel/cap color.

One of the pages I did yesterday I was really happy with.  It had all these really vibrant colors and I needed a red, so grabbed one that seemed to be just a straight up red and it turned out to be like drying blood colored.   I was so mad that it dulled down my vibrant colors.   My husband says it looks ok because the other colors pop more now, but I'm still disappointed because it ruined my "vision."

It's such an "Oh no!" moment when a color isn't right.  I'm sorry the color disappointed you.  Sometimes you can work around it, but other times the unwanted color just sticks out like a sore thumb. What was the page?

Thank you for your kind words about my owl/pussycat page.  I love blue and have tried to collect a good small group of blue markers that work well together. Am not really into blending them, just want them to set each other off well.

The page was just a pattern (I think from the Tessellations book) and the red was the LAST color I had to add.  It was so frustrating.   I've looked at the page a couple more times since I finished it and it's not as bad as I thought when I was actually coloring it, but because I know it's "wrong," I'm still annoyed by it :(

I read her book after this thread was initially posted. It’s a gripping but difficult read which needs to come with every possible trigger warning. Robert Hale was a horrible, horrible man.

Elishaba is beyond courageous for getting out of a terrible situation, writing about it as openly as she did, and retaining her faith after all the horrendous things she’s experienced. I can understand why some of the siblings might be upset with her for speaking out, but hopefully they will eventually come to understand. I also hope that some of them will be able to reconcile and stand by her during the health crisis.

There might be a trend on the rise with influencers to have these kitchen Part 2s. Audrey Roloff just redid their house and they have something they are calling a butler's pantry but it's just a second kitchen caddy corner to their main kitchen. I feel like Abbie's is that kind of attempt too. I can just picture looking for a box of macaroni and having to open a bunch of upper cabinets to try and find it and then reach up on your tip toes to grab.

I read last year or so that the new trend for kitchens is to have a messy kitchen next door. For the things that make a kitchen messy, like cooking food. So that your expensive shiny open kitchen with the expensive stone counter tops stay presentable when you entertain or something. I can't wrap my mind around something like that.

I started reading it, but I don't know if I will finish it I got as far as the part where

      Spoiler

her dad throws her beloved kitten against a wall

and then said "I think I need to take a break from reading this." I know it's going to get worse from there, and it will be a hard read!

I can afford stuff a lot easier these days, but the home parties would still never suit me.

Tupperware is great but I like a variety of different brand containers. I recently bought clear Pyrex bowls of different sizes with lids and use them all the time. Rubbermaid containers work well for me, too, and I like their dark red lids. I know people who love the Pampered Chef knives. I used a Victorinox chef’s knife for awhile and loved it, still have it, but these days I tend to grab smaller serrated knives in the drawer. I only buy Baggallini or Kipling purses; they’re the only ones that meet my multi-criteria list of must-haves in a purse. Pricey but worth it to me. The collection of vendors under one roof is a good idea, but still not my preferred method of shopping. Even tho there’s no pressure, I don’t really like someone staring at me behind a booth while I peruse merchandise. I have a hard time going to craft fairs and flea markets for this reason, too. My own personal hang up.

I’m really glad a couple of her siblings visited her after brain surgery. I hope a few more can get back in contact with her before she dies. I’m sure Joseph and Joshua won’t. They seem to be the most angry about the book. But a lot of the younger siblings might be less resentful. I hope they reconnect.
