Color Like An Egyptian

Tikobaby

Here's the first, (and  most likely, last), page from my new book Art Deco Egyptian Designs. I like the designs, but there is way too much pre-printed black & grey space on them for my taste.  Many of the pages have quite small and intricate spaces as well. It was hard on  my eyes to color this design. I'm going back to my Pampered Pets book and looking forward to choosing my first page from Dazzling Dogs after slogging through this Egyptian page.

Used Copics, Prismacolor, and Winsor & Newton markers, plus Staedtler triplus fineliners on this one. Too many colors to keep track of this time.

Wow! I bet it was hard on the eyes but I gotta say it looks great. I would have given up on those tiny areas.

Thanks, @Snickles!  I almost did give up on it. Had to rest my eyes for several days at a time while working on it and it got to be almost more work than pleasure. I like the way it turned out, but don't think I'll be choosing another page from that book. Glad you like it!

It's amazing @Tikobaby, looks like so much hard work though, I get why you took several days rest between working on it. It's a shame that it has so much black and grey shaded areas pre-done as I would love to see more of your pages from the book, but no point in doing it when it becomes a chore to do rather than fun and relaxing to colour.

I love what you did with it. It really does look stunning.

This is one of the least blackened pages right?

Sometimes when I do pages like that I color over large areas with a light color, yellow or pastels or something, and add some darker color in tiny areas on top of it. That seems less tedious than coloring each tiny area separately

Thank you, @caszandra.  Yep, it was a bit of a challenge to keep at it this time. Really wish there was a LOT less pre-printed dark areas and lines. I want to be able to color it all myself, not color over darkness.  Like the way it turned out, but it did feel like a chore at the end.

Thank you @OnceUponATime.  Glad you like it!  I chose this page for its Egyptian elements because I love ancient Egyptian art and it had the profile of a face.  All the pages have a lot of blackened areas, some more than this one, some about the same. The design on this page is small and tight and some of the other pages have bigger, more open designs, but those include even bigger blackened spaces. I don't see the point in having a coloring book with so much pre-inked black/grey/shading lines. I want to choose my colors and have as much space as possible open to color. :my_shy:

I did some of the pre-shaded areas like that...just filled in over them with one color, usually yellow or light blue. I'd just rather have open space to color without thick lines or pre-printed black/grey at all.   :marker:

It is lovely, I really like Art Deco . I understand your frustration though. I feel the same about the owl book I have. I feel the need to color everything a different color. It becomes more of a chore that way.

You did a great job with this one. I have been gardening a lot lately and fussing with my house plants (I have over 20) so not much coloring lately. I am sure I will start again soon.

Thank you, @Grimalkin.  Am glad you like it.   I think the biggest issue I had with this one was the small size of the design's elements. I am very near-sighted and can't color with my glasses on. I see better up close without them and it strained my eyes to do this page.  Just started working on a page from Pampered Pets and it looks gigantic after doing the Egyptian one!  What a relief to the eyes.    :my_cool:

@Tikobaby I keep telling my eye doctor i think I need reading glasses too. He says "no, not yet" meh getting old stinks sometimes.

Sometimes I have a hard time finding coloring books I like because of all the little teeny tiny details.

You did a great job on this one.  I am super glad I didn't pre-order this one and waited for you to post one.  This book would have been money wasted on me.  I don't mind intricate detail, but this is way too much tiny stuff for my old eyes to handle.  I am so happy I found the walk throughs on youtube because I've been able to cut some books out that I wouldn't really enjoy.  It cuts both ways though because I've probably found just as many to add to my list that I wouldn't have looked at otherwise ;)

My husband wants to watch that tonight.

I hope you didn't waste your time. Smuggar was mentioned in the second episode, but that was it.

Norma, who is 30 and divorced, is engaged to a 21-year-old Grey Smith on Fundie wiki. Do we know the story there? And why is a 30-year-old divorced woman marrying a 21-year-old?

I was curious and so I snooped on her public instagram. One of the comments mentioned that their relationship began in the gym. Maybe she is marrying her trainer?

      See above.

That is far from a beating.

I took the nuns statement as an accurate representation of Dogma. I also believe that Benedictine College attracts a trad Catholic community that is outside Dogma.

The fact that the nuns do the work and yet were not consulted on the graduation speaker is unfortunate and speaks volumes about the politics at the school.

Kendra Tierney of Catholic All Year is engaged, per her Instagram.

Kendra's husband made mucho mucho bank and they were never hurting for money. He left her very very well provided for.  She had/has a housekeeper and nanny for the 10 kids.  She homeschooled them through grade school and as they hit middle school off they when to expensive Catholic school.

She and the hubby bought a 10 bedroom mansion in LA (Gramblewood) and extensively gutted and renovated the whole thing.  10 bedrooms turned into 4  bedrooms -- master bedroom, 1 for boys (with 3 tier bunk beds), 1 for girls (rows of beds like hospital ward) and 1 guest room. There was a communal bathroom for girls and one for boys, no privacy at all. For boys -- open locker room shower, long urial and a commode, 1 giant long sink. For girls --open locker room shower,  a commode, 1 giant long sink.  Kendra has always said she doesn't believe in  privacy for children (because... well... you know.... uh......  think fundie reasons), although her bedroom door has always had a lock.

Like Braggie H (MisforMama) she has a child she openly intensely dislikes/ hates. She has always called him Cranky Frankie since he was a baby.  This stems from the fact he cried as a baby,  She's into sleep and blanket training, although she doesn't call it that.

She is a super shiny sparkly Catholic-er than thou, Tierneys are better than other Catholics (and everyone else) uber uber trad Catholic.  The family is Opus Dei/ Latin Mass only

She once wrote Pope Francis, and encouraged her readers to do the same, because she said he was doing something/ said something wrong, and she wanted him know it was wrong and to stop it. She actually posted the letter in her blog.

She is a hate read for me because she assumes she's a so much better perfect Catholic than the rest of us because we're doing it wrong wrong wrong (i.e., not like her). And she doing it perfectly right.
