Color Like An Egyptian

Tikobaby

Here's the first, (and  most likely, last), page from my new book Art Deco Egyptian Designs. I like the designs, but there is way too much pre-printed black & grey space on them for my taste.  Many of the pages have quite small and intricate spaces as well. It was hard on  my eyes to color this design. I'm going back to my Pampered Pets book and looking forward to choosing my first page from Dazzling Dogs after slogging through this Egyptian page.

Used Copics, Prismacolor, and Winsor & Newton markers, plus Staedtler triplus fineliners on this one. Too many colors to keep track of this time.

Wow! I bet it was hard on the eyes but I gotta say it looks great. I would have given up on those tiny areas.

Thanks, @Snickles!  I almost did give up on it. Had to rest my eyes for several days at a time while working on it and it got to be almost more work than pleasure. I like the way it turned out, but don't think I'll be choosing another page from that book. Glad you like it!

It's amazing @Tikobaby, looks like so much hard work though, I get why you took several days rest between working on it. It's a shame that it has so much black and grey shaded areas pre-done as I would love to see more of your pages from the book, but no point in doing it when it becomes a chore to do rather than fun and relaxing to colour.

I love what you did with it. It really does look stunning.

This is one of the least blackened pages right?

Sometimes when I do pages like that I color over large areas with a light color, yellow or pastels or something, and add some darker color in tiny areas on top of it. That seems less tedious than coloring each tiny area separately

Thank you, @caszandra.  Yep, it was a bit of a challenge to keep at it this time. Really wish there was a LOT less pre-printed dark areas and lines. I want to be able to color it all myself, not color over darkness.  Like the way it turned out, but it did feel like a chore at the end.

Thank you @OnceUponATime.  Glad you like it!  I chose this page for its Egyptian elements because I love ancient Egyptian art and it had the profile of a face.  All the pages have a lot of blackened areas, some more than this one, some about the same. The design on this page is small and tight and some of the other pages have bigger, more open designs, but those include even bigger blackened spaces. I don't see the point in having a coloring book with so much pre-inked black/grey/shading lines. I want to choose my colors and have as much space as possible open to color. :my_shy:

I did some of the pre-shaded areas like that...just filled in over them with one color, usually yellow or light blue. I'd just rather have open space to color without thick lines or pre-printed black/grey at all.   :marker:

It is lovely, I really like Art Deco . I understand your frustration though. I feel the same about the owl book I have. I feel the need to color everything a different color. It becomes more of a chore that way.

You did a great job with this one. I have been gardening a lot lately and fussing with my house plants (I have over 20) so not much coloring lately. I am sure I will start again soon.

Thank you, @Grimalkin.  Am glad you like it.   I think the biggest issue I had with this one was the small size of the design's elements. I am very near-sighted and can't color with my glasses on. I see better up close without them and it strained my eyes to do this page.  Just started working on a page from Pampered Pets and it looks gigantic after doing the Egyptian one!  What a relief to the eyes.    :my_cool:

@Tikobaby I keep telling my eye doctor i think I need reading glasses too. He says "no, not yet" meh getting old stinks sometimes.

Sometimes I have a hard time finding coloring books I like because of all the little teeny tiny details.

You did a great job on this one.  I am super glad I didn't pre-order this one and waited for you to post one.  This book would have been money wasted on me.  I don't mind intricate detail, but this is way too much tiny stuff for my old eyes to handle.  I am so happy I found the walk throughs on youtube because I've been able to cut some books out that I wouldn't really enjoy.  It cuts both ways though because I've probably found just as many to add to my list that I wouldn't have looked at otherwise ;)

Jeremy and Jinger did a new you tube video. They are going back to vlogging. They are in a new house, in LA, and it sounds like they plan to be there awhile. They are remodeling. They talked about moving. It was riveting. 💤

Absolutely - kids are individuals just like adults.  All you can do is your best but nobody is able to be ON 100% of the time without breaks.  We're not machines.

It's moving day for the entitlement twins.  Anyone want to guess when their next grift will be?  I am sure it will be less than a day for their next "funding request" to appear.

My guess is that some of their "boxes*" will have been lost, damaged, stolen, etc and they will be needing the items** in those particular boxes replaced ASAP.

      * boxes... if any boxes even exist. They collect free money then do whatever they want.

** items... the lost boxes will "contain" their most valuable belongings so they can beg for as much money as possible.

You know, it just occurred to me.. why would Josh even think he deserves another hearing? He is nobody but a minor D-list player.. and a bad one at that. Yeah, I know we're all equal under the law, but... he's not all that..

I still can't believe I was rooting for Anna when they went to DC. I honestly thought she was open to new ideas as she met people who were smart and active and doing things.

To be fair to yourself, that was over ten years and three scandals ago, so your optimism hadn’t yet taken all the hits. We hadn’t seen Anna’s true colors. All we saw at the time was a heavily edited reality show. The smoke and mirrors were working overtime. The severity of IBLP beliefs that the Duggars and others in the cult lived by were whitewashed by TLC.
