Boy Clothes vs. Girl Clothes

Ali

My first was a girl. It was easy to find cute clothes for her, and many times I had to use self-control to resist buying adorable outfits for her that she did not need. After having a boy, I have been a little frustrated with the lack of cute clothing options for him. Girls clothes seem to be so much cuter than boy clothes.

I wanted to get both of my children a cute outfit for Easter.  It was easy to find an adorable dress for my daughter to pick out. Costco had lots of cute girls Easter dresses for a decent price, but no boy Easter clothes. I went shopping this week for an outfit for my son, and all of the stores I went to had limited options. The suits were too big for him and there were hardly any dressy outfit options. I found something that would work for this year, but I am still frustrated that there were so few options. Do people only want to dress up their girls for Easter?

As a mom of all boys -- yes. My boys usually ended up wearing khaki or navy pants or shorts with a cute plaid shirt or a pastel shirt/tie combo. Suits just never looked right or comfy, to me. I did have more luck finding everyday clothes that were reasonably cute, though, but I sometimes got frustrated with how limited options could be when it came to some things.

And just wait for Mother's Day. There are mother-daughter events out the wazoo, but mother-son events are so hard to come by that I can count on one hand the number I've seen (as in, I've seen exactly one mother-son event in the 13 years I've been a mom).

Maybe? I have a boy but don't really care to dress him up for Easter. Then again, I don't think I would for a girl either...haha. We don't really do a whole lot though. Last year the weather was warmer so I put him in plaid shorts and a polo (pastel-ish colors.) This year it will be cooler so he will just be in jeans and a long-sleeved button down (again, kind of pastel colors.) We're pretty boring over here though. I love little boy clothes. I bought a bunch of cute t-shirts for him yesterday. I know that in a few years I won't like any boy clothes though.

I think it's probably a good thing I don't have a daughter. I don't like 90% of the girl clothes I've seen. I am just not girly enough.

In my experience, it seems like you have to go more high end for cute boy outfits. Nordstrom, Janie & Jack, etc. But I just remembered that Gap has lots of cute boy clothes! And Gap has sales pretty much constantly. If you keep an eye on something you like, chances are, it will be on sale within weeks. I guess that's not really helpful for Easter, though. ;)

@polecat Thanks for the information about suits not fitting properly. It does not seem right that there are not as many mother son events as there mother daughter events.

@ClaraOswin My daughter is so "girly" when it comes to clothes. There was a summer where she wanted to wear dresses every single day.

@iweartanktops I will have to keep an eye out at Gap next year. I decided I will start looking earlier next year and get something I like better.

@Ali, I also love Gilt! They have lots of great clothes in general. Some are designer, but many are pretty affordable. I order from there for gifts pretty often.

Can you tell I like shopping a little? :pb_lol:
