'Tis the Season

My first blog post. I was at Michael's and was tempted by the holiday coloring display, I ended up getting three holiday books- this is from the Creative Haven Christmas Trees book. I decided to do it in non-traditional colors to avoid using up my greens. It didn't scan well, it's hard to tell but there are two shades of orange- the darker one is really red and the darker brown is more maroon than it looks.

Oh this is another neat one with "nontraditional" colors.   I like it!

What books did you get?

I find it hard to look at a tree and not think "green," but your tree and the super colorful tree that @fascinated posted the other day will hopefully inspire me next time I am faced with a tree :)

This is cool, but what is it with scanning and photographing our pages that makes it so hard to reproduce the actual colors?  I'd like to see this page in the colors Bethella says it really is!

Me, too. There's not really a hint of maroon that I can see. It's a bummer.  It looks great though, regardless. Here's another with just a few different colours!  Great first picture post, @Bethella.

What did you colour this with?  I'm thinking that pencils seem to scan/photograph more realistically than the gel pens?

I know that the photos of my pages done with markers don't look the same on this site as they do on my computer/camera. I try to adjust them digitally to match the actual page and sometimes I think I make them look worse! The original page always looks a lot better.

In addition to the Christmas Tree book I got the Creative Haven Christmas Mandala and Snowflake Mandala books. I have a couple of the snowflakes nearly done that should get posted in the next day or two.

This was done with the regular Sakura gel pens except for the yellow which is a Sakura glaze pen.

I'm not from America, I don't live in America, I don't have family in America, I don't even have plans to visit America. But I was in a psych ward at the end of 2016/January 2017, and I was not the only person there who said they'd had to turn off the news for the sake of their mental health and that the result of the US election had had a significant toll. Women, in particular. It means something for humanity if one of the world's most powerful countries is led by a racist misogynist who brags about assaulting women, who publicly incites violence and is regularly seen interacting with neo-Nazis.

I feel similarly about Josh and Anna - sure, I don't know them personally and it wasn't footage of my children that Josh was watching, but it means something to me as a parent to know that he is in prison.

I think Jeremy may have written the Zillow blurb, it reads somewhat fundamentalist.

I have a lot of thoughts on the spelling of those names….

The names of the daughters in the Nelson family are not for the faint of heart. However, if you’ve ever heard of Utah names, they fit the bill.

If I had a child who was into it, and who wanted to train at that level then I'd probably consider doing it. Same with acting etc. - but it wouldn't be the whole focus of the family because it couldn't be, and it would have to be balanced with the needs of the family. At the end of the day if you're that passionate about something you will find ways of making it work as a late teen/adult, not doing it as a child isn't an automatic exclusion.

I think her oldest is definitely into it but she wants to be a missionary, so in 3 years all of this time and money will have been for what -- mom to feel like she's "omg dance mom with five kids so on top of things." I just feel so bad for her toddler who's almost never doing toddler things - no playgrounds, no library store times, just being shuttled to practice after practice.
