I also don't get it. It's not like it's an either/or thing......how bout no naked kid pics in the hands of pedos?

Sounds reasonable to me.

Telling a child they cannot dress or undress as they please, and never being able to post pictures of a child in any state of undress (which they inevitably will be in and doing something cute many times in their childhood) because there are pedophiles who might get off on that is no different than imposing rules of modesty on grown women because some man might lust after her.

The problem is with the pedophile, not the child nor the parent.

If you choose to impose modesty because the thought of anyone lusting after or getting off on you or your child is something you want to take all steps to avoid, that is completely understandable. However it is not fair to impose that on others and judge parents who don't think the same as irresponsible for wearing whatever they choose, or letting their children wear/not wear what they choose.

There is the succinctness my post was missing. I was trying to say just....THAT ^^^^

I guess I don't understand your comment. Why would you want ANY kid to be someone's fix?

I don't WANT it. But since my kid isn't actually harmed in me taking a photo of him that someone else gets off to, I far prefer that to someone actually taking intentional sexual pictures of kids.

I just really don't care all that much.

Yeah have fun making that happen.

It isn't an either or, my point is if someone wants to whack off to a photo of a kid he doesn't have access to, and hasn't been harmed because the picture wasn't taken with that intent, I really don't care enough to prevent it from sharing a cute naked baby picture.

I am far more bothered by the fact that sharing that picture could be a problem in your kid's eyes one day.

This. It isn't a bad horrible parent who is allowing their child to be preyed on. If you don't do it, I get it. I think it is reasonable to not post naked or semi clothed pics of kids out of fear of perverts. But it is also reasonable to post them in spite of that. Now if you are posting them with the INTENT to get them in the hands of pedophiles, well that is different.

Oh and perverts are not having to get more creative to get their fix. The supreme court ruling made it so, so much easier.

I hadn't either, and she should have a warning label on that blog because holy crap her face scared the shit out of me, and I'm not being a bitch.

I would only agree on that if all people with "divergent" looks would have warning labels on their blogs. An old classmate of mine has cacomorphobia. Looking at overweight people scares the shit out of her. She would probably appreciate if all overweight people had warnings labels on their blogs...

Not to mention that redheads have been feared back in the days by some random people who thought they were children of Satan. Maybe I should have a label on my blog, if someone finds me scary because of my red hair. "Warning: child of Satan."

No, no... WE have to get rid of our fears. People with divergent looks can't just get rid of their looks (except the redheads which could easily dye their hair of course, but eventually it will grow out again). Such fears are irrational. We can't ask other people to protect us from what we find uncomfortable. We have to protect ourselves (by facing our fears and conquering our phobia).

the above is a link to the bio of a truly amazing burn survivor. the first time i read her story (several years ago) it literally took my breath away. there are no burn pics of her in the article, but if you are interested you can google her--major warning though, she looks MUCH worse than Nie

No they haven't. Intent is a big part of child pornography. My husband was a federal agent investigating child porn for years.

Treemom, that must have been hard for both your husband & you (if he confided in you when things got to him) to deal with on a daily basis. I do thank him for what he's done to get child pornographers out of society and away from kids. I do agree with you - I'd rather have someone getting off on an innocent picture of a kid than it happening to a kid for real.

The picture is in poor taste and unnecessary. And it's not even good.

Wow, that's quite a story and the before/after picture are jarring.

Has burn treatment changed much in 10 years or did Nie just get really really lucky in the way she was burned (if you know what I mean). I think Nienie is still quite beautiful.

Eta: is it just me or is nie's blog only showing the most current post and nothing else? Maybe she took the diaper shot down. Finally.

Um yes, that is the definition of a phobia, an irrational fear. And while I only minored in psych at uni, I'm pretty sure that it's not considered therapeutic or otherwise generally advisable to force people with phobias to come face to face with their trigger. Please correct me if current psychological research suggests otherwise. I will be happy to throw a spider at my arachnophobe relative, all in the name of helping her to conquer her fears. After all, we can't just kill all the spiders in the world, we need to get rid of our fears!

Wow, what an incredible story. And her Dad is also an amazing man. I'm thinking Nie's face wasn't as badly burned but I don't really know. My burn experience was in the 70's at the U of Michigan but I only saw them in recovery room after skin grafts. I think burns are absolutely the worse injuries anyone could have. I'd take being paralyzed over having major burns, not that I want either one.

Really? No pictures whatsoever? Promise? I'm dying to know how she's doing, I learned about her in high school, and it's just awful what happened to her.

Aren't exposures a legitimate way to treat phobias? Anyway, if somebody is that terrified of a pic of Nie, it's not nie's problem. Stay off the webz if you can't handle something like that.m

So in Effie's and Beeks' opinion, we don't need to use the spoiler bars on here for anything that might be graphic or triggering? People should just stay off the internet, really? I didn't know this was the general consensus.

Obviously I'm not actually terrified by Nienie's face. Not if I'm not actually looking at it, anyway. It's like the encephalic baby blogs, you're scrolling down through a series of pics and there may not be any indication that you're going to see a baby with half his head missing until it's right freaking there. Is it the mother's right to post the pic on her blog? Sure. Do I wish it had been under a sidebar? Well I do now.

While it would be mean to throw a spider at an arachnophobe, it would be ridiculous to suggest that any photo of a spider have a spoiler tag. Which is what you are suggesting. It's not fair to ask people to hide themselves because others have a hard time with their disability.

I don't disagree.

Anyone has the right to post pics on their blog and I have the right to think what the hell was that when I stumble upon them without warning.

You know you are talking about someone's face, right?

Huh? Nie really doesn't look bad. She almost just look like an older person instead of a burn victim to me.

Because that that person less than human, right?

Or maybe people who don't want to look at my friend because his face is deformed from a fire?

I freely admit, as a disabled woman, I have little tolerance for this. Your reaction dehumanizes this person, and that only continues to lead to the devaluation of people with disabilities.

No, I meant encephalic babies.

Oh my bad.

Maybe I'm weird but those pics really don't bother me either. There are far worse things on the Internet and I do my best to avoid those. If physical abnormalities are that shocking and awful to you maybe there is some way to disable pics in general until you know what type of page you're on?
