My brother's real-life fundie flounce

We have a family in our school district who is probably fundie-lite (not sure how to classify them - if not fundie-lite then very conservative Christian, into courtship and all that). The oldest boy was two grades ahead of me and was honestly one of the nicest people I have ever known. He was always very accepting of everyone despite his beliefs, and now he is still a conservative Christian but very liberal and really into human rights. (I think one of my biggest problems with fundies is that they expect everyone to conform to their lifestyle and cannot accept any differences.) Anyway, my brother, M, is in 10th grade now and in the same grade as this guy's brother, D, who apparently did not escape the legalism. So my brother is pretty quiet and laid-back and although he has opinions he almost NEVER confronts anyone. He told us he thinks that D is hypocritical because he believes in "faith not works" but preaches to everyone about how they shouldn't do things like smoke pot or have premarital sex. Apparently my brother asked D if those are "works" and if they are, why it matters if D believes that you only need faith to get into heaven. (My family is Catholic so works count.) D said something like you have to if you are a Christian because you have to follow Jesus or something. He clarified though that you only need faith to get into heaven. Then M asked D if he thought Ghandi would be in heaven... and D literally stormed off!!

So proud of my brother's use of reason and thought I would share :P Just wish I could have been there to witness it!

Way to go little brother! Fundies can never justify this and I'm glad your brother called him on his hypocrisy. A little brother to be proud of for sure!
