Undercover Boss: we left our family planning up to the Lord.

Why is this even included? Undercover Boss is a CBS show (right now in rerun on TLC) in which the CEO of a large company puts on a disguise and works a few entry level jobs within their company. The other workers are told it's a reality show competition, that explains the cameras. There was an episode with the CEO of Great Wolf Lodge, and the new employee /secret CEO had to go into the pool to remove the UFO (unidentified fecal object).

This episode is about the CEO of Frontier Airlines. Before he donned his wig, we got to see his palatial home and his wife and 8 kids. 8 kids you ask? Well I didn't, but the guy is explaining that when he and their wife got married they used birth control, but decide to leave it up to God.

This just bugs me the way the purity movement does - I don't want to know about your sex life (or lack of). You have 8 kids that you can easily afford, no need to explain any further. I'm watching this show because airplanes are cool and it's fun to watch the CEO try to do manual labor, not to learn about your Quiverfull*.

He didn't use the word Quiverfull, but his wording sounded very familiar, and don't most Quiverfullers proselytize at every opportunity?

ETA: If the Catholic Church gets its way and employers can decide what health insurance covers based on their morality, it's not hard to imagine Frontier Airlines employees would lose contraception coverage.

He's coming from a place of massive privilege too, in that he can afford to raise those kids a lot easier than for most QF families. It's a lot easier to sacrifice for your cause when the sacrifice isn't so big.

And yeah, it's pretty standard for QFers to not use the term right away until they've attempted to reel you in. It sounds like he's a typical QF Evangelist.

Yeah, it's different eating the number of kids up to chance when it's not going to pose a financial hardship.

this. We decided to cap our family at 2-3 max kids. I wanted 8. But the reality of the situation is, we cannot, CANNOT afford to feed, clothe and house that many.

I've seen a few episodes where the CEO's brought up their Christian backgrounds quite conspicuously. I thought it was a little strange. The CEO of Baja Fresh (I looooooooooooove Baja Fresh!) actually prayed with one of the staff members. And they had the CEO of Herschend Entertainment which owns and operates a bunch of crap in Branson MO and he made sure to mention they had "Christian values"

Twisted thinking, indeed. :naughty: :naughty:

Ugh. I hate when people do this kind of stuff. I don't care how many kids you have or why you have that number of them. I don't care if you wait until your married to have sex or if you bang every person that crosses your path. Keep your sex life and your family planning to yourself.

I hate these winds. They are absolutely HOWLING here in SoCal. Not sure I'll be able to sleep tonight because I'm so afraid we'll get sudden evacuation orders the way we did with the Woolsey fire in 2018. There's no way of knowing when and where a fire might crop up and once it does, there's no containing it in these winds. I'm praying for the safety of our brave firefighters. My heart is with everyone in the Pacific Palisades and in Eaton Canyon near Pasadena.

The world doesn't need more people. If people want to have children, that's fine, but there is no reason we have to keep having more people.

      Winter snack: crispy chickpeas
Preheat oven to 400 F. Drain and rinse a can of chickpeas, then toss in olive oil and whatever spices you like. I use fried chili crisp. Cook for 15 minutes, stir, another 15 minutes, stir, repeat until they're crispy and delicious. Good as a snack, on salads, etc.
I am sharing my super secret chili crisp source just because I love you guys:

Serious question: is there anything men hate more than a woman's strongly held opinion?

Happy New Year, all you amazing people! I just saw a (possibly joking) tradition online called Yule Boasting.

      My quick text version:
i will begin 2025 by distilling a barrel full of tequila from the agave plants in my yard, assisted by george clooney, who admires me greatly and will be sad and heartbroken when my plan moves ahead without further human assistance.
sky-clad, i will find my familiar, a malevolently clever curve-billed thrasher named Willie Wildman. together we will roam my neighborhood, putting together an animal army consisting of a coyote pack, a squadron of javelinas, and my local great horned owl pair, perseverance and ingenuity.
we will all consume mass quantities of tequila, paint our faces blue, and set out on yucca broomsticks to reach our nation's capitol.
we will swoop down on DC, screaming and howling, occupying first the capitol and then the white house, where we will become co-presidents and replace congress with the yacht-sinking orcas of the mediterranean. AND EVERYONE WILL FUCKING REJOICE.

It's crazy to think that it has already been 25 years since we were worried about what would happen when the calendars would switch over to Y2K.
