I finally see something that looks photoshopped in the J&A picture! I just couldn't see what you all were seeing before, but I can see one of the stripes on her shirt diverges into 2 stripes. THat and her her fucked up finger. I do like the color of JB & Jichelle's shirts, though. But pleated khakis? Really? Ugh!

Poor JD got hit with the Ugly Stick, I'm afraid. Jer doesn't really look like the others, does he?

Ugh, I think I'd managed to block out the fact that they have Joshua James and James Andrew, plus Jedidiah Robert and Jeremiah Robert. Of course JB is just so special that he has to reuse his name twice :roll:

I think all the older girls have been hitting the spray tan/self tanner. Joy Anna is looking more like Jill to me, back when Jill had braces.

That bothers the hell out of me! My husband is Octavian Mortimer III (Morty) (not his real name), and he has a younger brother named Octavian Simeon Mortimer. Well, Morty always wanted a daughter named Octavia, so when we had a girl we named her Octavia Prudence, with the understanding that any boys would not be named Octavian. Two years later I had a boy, when we said we were naming him Obediah Mortimer (a name I like), my father-in-law asked me how much money it would take to name the baby Octavian Mortimer IV!! I told him "Enough to put Octavia through therapy because she will feel like she wasn't good enough!"

Hubs does have cousins named Martina and Martin (not there real names), the dad is Martin. :doh:

Thanks for giving that explanation 0kidsandhappy! I had sort of noticed the finger, but it looks especially bad when you frame it close up like that. I wonder if maybe the photography company didn't actually do the PSing, and maybe Smuggar or some other Duggar did it afterward. I can only assume they're hiding the pregnancy because of a TLC contract and it will be revealed in an episode. I just don't buy that it's a food baby like Smuggar because she isn't fat anywhere else.

As for the short skirts, it's not really about sexual modesty at all. It's about limiting a woman's activities and forcing her into the "modesty" of never being able to even try to have a life as full as a man would. It's about control and limitation. When they're not in the mainstream public eye, it's also about isolation and making them look ridiculous.

I don't have such a problem with the girls' eyeliner. To me, it just seems like they have skin make-up caked on, and that's something I usually only see with a subset of older women who feel like it's necessary to attempt to recreate all the skin on their face before even starting. It just seems like overkill and I wonder if Michelle is projecting her own issues onto them and giving them make-up tips that she only needs for herself. Where else wold they get make-up tips anyway?

As someone who uses Photoshop quite a bit, I feel like I see some clone stamping happening around Anna's belly.

Skirts-only is not a modesty issue, it's because the Duggars (and many fundies) regard pants as exclusively male clothing (and a verse in Deuteronomy forbids cross dressing, and to a Duggar girl wearing capris would be cross dressing).

So I guess the guys better never end up in the hospital since the gowns are all the same. And back in the days of Jesus, everyone wore similar clothing. And just 100 years ago, boys and girls were dressed exactly alike until they were out of their toddler years.

I agree. I have cousins (siblings to each other) named Stephen and Stephanie, and it always squicked me out a little.

Yea, they tend to kiss a lot in front of the video cameras too. Even Michelle admitted that they do kiss a lot...when she had to take in JimBob to see if he had allergies or not. :?

Honestly, that Jedidiah is some serious cute. I mean, in a very un-Duggar-male way. The girls are beautiful too (makeup choices aside, Jana!). What the hell happened to Josh and some of the older boys?

The claims of uber modesty seem only geared towards insulting others. That's what irks me the most. I think I'd be weirded out about PDA in portraits that I post online in general. I was actually thinking about it in terms of engagement pictures. I didn't want anything too stiff and formal, but then I don't want us to look like soft corn porn either. And there's something stilted and awkward about kissing on demand for a photo. Its a fine line, but if I went on national television with the intention of telling others how modest and religious and generally more behaved I think I'd be more careful as to what sort of photos I'd post online.

THat being said its really a wonder these people get watched at all. They are so vanilla and personality free, their photos really show that. I haven't seen an EP in nearly a year I think (unless its on youtube during my truly bored moments). They are moderately photogenic and match up nicely (except for Michelle who looks like the incredible shrinking woman). The amount she has shrunk really shows in these portraits. There must be something very very very wrong with her bones. DId she not take supplements for Calcium during and after her pregnancies? I know lots of women with very large families and none of them have shrunk this much, and many are MIchelle's age or older.

I can only think of one mother of 7 or 8 who is as short as Michelle and she started out that short (her husband is pretty short too, those kids are going to be very petite adults).

I am really fascinated by the James Andrew portraits. What possible reason could there be for posing him in a hat and bow tie? I almost wonder if he was offered some sort of acting or modeling job. If it was one of the older girls I could understand but why single out James?
