I was watching the last 20 minutes of LPBW before the Duggar Israel episode. Anyway. I think i know why the Duggars were/are popular- they don't fight. WOW I don't know why they were fighting but it ruined the cruise on LPBW. I never saw when they went on a cruise on LPBW. Where did they go?

I don't remember, but I think that the Roloffs were almost as gigantic of asses that the Duggars are. The father was a megalomaniac, the mother was a passive-aggressive bitch, the average size twin son was a homophobic closet case, and their family was a chaotic mess. And they too claimed to be such devout Christians! I watched the show for a couple of seasons, but then it just got too awful to watch their self-destruction.

I'm not a huge Roloff fan, but I did like that Matt and Amy would own up to some of their family's flaws. They didn't pretend everything was rainbows. Matt at least made a public statement about Jeremy's racist and homophobe comments. The Duggars are giant phonies. They pretend everything is perfect and they have lied about a few things in regards to Josh and the car lot. If TMZ or some site ran a story about Josh not owning the lot, I bet Boob would ignore it and not make a public statement about the deception. Michelle claimed on the show that once her children married and left the home, they were completely on their own. We know that is bullshit and Josh isn't really on his own or supporting his family completely by himself.

At least Molly Roloff won't be a SAHD. At this point, I would say Molly is more independent than the J'Slaves. She probably isn't controlled 24/7 by mommy and daddy. At least Matt won't be the one picking Molly's future husband. Out of all the kids, I liked her.

I stopped watching the Roloffs because they appeared too normal. Now I wish that I had stuck around for a few more episodes. Didn't daddy Roloff wreck the car or something?

He was arrested for DUI and convicted. I believe he lost his license for a couple of years.

This. So much this.

And admitting your family's horrible, horrible flaws gets no respect from me if you're not doing anything to correct them. Why should I pat them on the back for saying "Yeah, we're not perfect" if they're not working on correcting the drunk driving, the racism and homophobia, and whatever the hell is wrong with the youngest child.

Which cruise? I saw early morning re-reun yesterday and they took a riverboat cruise. It was sme replica riverboat and they were somewhere in the south?(i wasn't paying attention). They also took a cruise to Haiti and it was right around the earthquake time and they had Amy visit some victims (some people say this was for damage control).

I watched the Rolloffs early on. I found a website (the site is Spiritswander keeping up with the roloffs), kind of like this and found out the real story. Right now the Roloffs are suing everyone it seems. They are about to go to trial against that inspector that came on the property to check out the huge Noah's arc. Amy is claiming she has suffered horrible trauma. Poor Jacob told the DA that his mom is fine and now has to testify against his mom. They are also taping new shows but I doubt we will see all these trials.

I think the reason people like the Duggars better is that more viewers probably have something in common with the Roloffs (messy kitchens, kids that fail classes, kids that won't clean their rooms, DUI, mom/dad that disagree about how money is spent) and viewers see the Duggars as perfect and wish they could have respectful kids, a clean house and no fighting. Of course we all know truth behind the Duggars. I think the Roloffs are closer to real life and people don't want to see real life issues with tons of over the top freebies given to a a spoiled family.

I was never a Duggar fan, although I was sucked in by sick curiousity to watch the first special, then the second one, and occasionally the series. However, I was originally a fan of the Roloffs, believing the "reality" presented to the viewers by TLC.

I really admired both Matt and Amy for the "can do" spirit they emphasized, and for getting out there and doing things that were difficult, without complaining about the difficulty. I thought the children seemed like fairly normal children, complete with little spats, messiness, and so forth.

But it turns out that was a lot of pretty veneer. Little by little, I became aware of the less likeable aspects of the Roloffs. What turned me off the most:

Matt's drinking

Matt's obvious favoritism for Jeremy, the golden child. It's clear Matt sooooooooooo wishes he could have Jeremy's physical appearance and abilities

Matt's possible philandering

Matt's disrespect of his wife, and controlling the finances (i.e., running them into debt so he can buy toys)

Amy's borderline hoarder messiness

Amy's obvious favoritism of both Jeremy and Josh

Amy's negligence and lack of interest in her youngest son, Jacob

Amy's continued willingness to be a doormat to Matt

Jeremy's racism and laziness

The twins disgusting behavior - i.e, peeing in the corner of their own room rather than walk to the bathroom

The twins' disgusting sloppiness - it goes beyond sloppy and into filth and grossness. Their room was a sinkhole and I can only imagine the stench.

Being a little person does not mean you live in squalor! They had a big beautiful house and it was always totally trashed. Why not spend some money and hire outside help to clean up once a week; and then teach your children to clean up after themselves!! Those two twin boys were totally babied and turned out helpless. What woman wants to take on a man-child like that?

I also learned that Matt's father - who seemed like such a nice guy - apparently is a religious nut of sorts and has a variety of beliefs I find objectionable - including being racist and sexist. Very sad to learn that.

I liked the original message of the show - which was overcoming adversity, putting a positive spin on whatever hand life deals you, etc. But by the end, Matt and Amy had evolved into people I really didn't like and could not respect. Their terrible parenting is something I find unforgivable. That is the most important job a person can have, and they both blew it, big time. In that respect, I find them no better than Ma and Pa Duggar. Crap parents, all of them.

I head somewhere that they are suing the county they live in. It won't be the first time the Roloffs have been involved in lawsuits. Matt was involved in a few lawsuits years before the show strted.

They have had lawsuits with the county over the land before. This current one is this month. 200k against the county for that inspector that Amy wanted off the property. Amy claims she was has suffer so much trama she needs therapy? During the incident a full TLC crew was taping and 2 of her kids were there and they are teens so I really think this is frivilous. On top of that making Jake (a troubled teen struggling with being in the spotlight) testify against you? They need to drop the lawsuit.

Yesterday Amy was posting that she thinks the TSA discriminates against little people. She got padded down 4-5 times because she is "small" and now she doesn't want to travel anymore. I bet another lawsuit is coming from this.

He was arrested for DUI and convicted. I believe he lost his license for a couple of years.

And he tried to wiggle out of the conviction by saying that he had been driving erratically because he hadn't bothered to readjust the sticks he used press the pedals while he was driving his wife's car. IF that is true, what a major WTF that he doesn't pull over and adjust them?

Posted

The episode was called Troubled Waters- Matt has taken care of his business back at home and rejoined the family back on the riverboat. But now that he can relax, Amy has other plans in mind.

I just watched the part where the kids were eatting by themselves and wondering where their mom and dad were...

I'm getting old, and the Roloffs have always bored me, but I thought he beat the rap?

I don't remember if he did and frankly don't care. In either case he was making excuses for behavior which could have caused a wreck, which in my book is just shitty.

Maybe she will start hanging out with Zsu and PP and they can talk about their hate for the TSA.

Wait...they peed in the corner of their room? Ew. Just ew.

I used to really enjoy them. They seemed normal, relateable. But then, the more successful they became the crazier Matt seemed to get. Amy seemed like she was genuinely unhappy. It seemed like she and Matt had entirely different philosophies and goals in life but somehow they stayed together? I could never figure that one out. It was really awkward when Matt and Jeremy went on some trip through Europe separate from the rest of the family and he seemed gleeful about it. He seems overly controlling of the children. I understand that Jeremy and Zach were complete slackers most of the time, but he would always just bark at them about what he felt they should do with their lives. I found it very odd. I agree they treat Jeremy better than Zack or at least Matt seems to. I sometimes feel that although they are little people, they ironically expect less out of their little person son. Maybe it's just me.

What? Matt might have cheated on his wife? Why the hell did I stop watching that show? LOL Really, the first few episodes the family appeared almost boringly normal. Why did rumors start about Matt cheating?

What are their grounds for suing the county?

Posted

I think it's better to see normal disrespectful teenage brats than the weirdness and the forced goodness coming from the Duggars. Although, it is sad to see the deterioration of Matt and Amy's marriage.

I've just recently started watching this and saw the episode this morning (the Riverboat one). The ship is the American Queen and She was traveling the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers.

The Roloffs seem more interesting to me than those damn Duggars. More real. They have problems we can relate to: arguments about money, disagreements over the kids, everyday stuff.

Had no idea about the racism and stuff... I will be watching the reruns with an eye peeled. Doesn't Zach wear a Confederate Soldiers' cap from time to time come to think of it?

The DUI thing SICKENS me to my core. I sincerely hope he didn't 'get out of it'!

It got cancelled a couple of years back, but Matt worked out deal with TLC to do update shows. I think 3 update shows have aired over the past several months. One was focused on Zach moving to California to attend a photography school, one was an update on the whole family, and one was focused on Zach.

I believe Matt was found innocent of the DUI on technicalities based on how the field tests were administered, but because he refused a breath test and a blood test, and had a previous DUI incident, his license was automatically pulled for a period of time.

Matt and Amy never apologized for Jeremy's racist and homophobic remarks; they made some public comments about "inappropriate behavior" and left it at that.

They are suing the county over an incident that was shown in one of their shows. Matt had moved a huge wooden boat (like 30' high) onto his property to be the Ark in a display for pumpkin season. Someone complained and the county sent an inspector out, who allegedly entered the farm through a back gate without permission (a point of dispute). Amy encountered him on the property, and demanded to know who he was. A really weird scene ensued, with the inspector trying to leave without saying anything, and Amy trotting alongside him, yelling at him and repeatedly bumping into him while he tries to avoid her. When he reaches his truck, he climbs in, and Amy actually tries to climb up on his lap to stop him from leaving. Anyway, most of the claims in the lawsuit have been tossed out, with one trespassing charge remaining, but Matt and Amy are claiming she suffered "emotional anguish" and "terror" over the incident and want $250,000 in compensation.

The philandering is a constant rumor, and probably has a lot to do with Matt's constant crowing of what a stud he was back in the day, the creepy way he tries to force Zach to emulate him (e.g., inviting girls in at a Little People conference to "wake up" Zach while he is in bed in his underwear), and the icky way he encourages Jeremy to "get it while you can" ("manly" conversation while on a driving trip). He just seems the type, KWIM, and the fact that he travels a lot provides plenty of opportunity.

Yeah, their show QUICKLY devolved into a copy of K+8, with one lavish trip after another, and plenty of product placement (full house expansion/remodel, outdoor sport court, swimming pool and hot tub, deck remodel, multiple car restorations, etc., etc.)

I didn't know they were still on. I watched the first season, maybe a bit of the second. I couldn't take the narcissism, the back stabbing, the passive-aggressive BS from both parents. They are master manipulators and use each other as their subjects. On the surface they seemed more 'normal' and honest. Between the lines, they are just as crazy as any other so called reality 'stars'.

The stuff Jeremy said, was it online or on the show? I've heard about it but I've never read the actual remarks.

He made his remarks on myspace. In one of the incidents, Jeremy friends went to Mexico on vacation, Jeremy made a comment about the friend visiting a "wetback: country either on his page or his friend's page. I can't remember which page and he also made gay slur comments on myspace.
