Michelle Duggar and Grandma Duggar

Looking ahead 25 years, let's assume at least some of the Duggar children follow in Michelle's footsteps and have a busload full of children. Do you think widowed Michelle will help with childcare and laundry for free? Wouldn't she be obligated to serve her male children? I can imagine she would have at least 50 grandchildren and there would be a medical crisis and/or need for her a minute. She wouldn't get a moment's rest going from home to home. I, myself, don't think she would lift a finger and would feign illness and asked to be cared for herself. I wonder if this has ever crossed Grandma Duggar's mind. Also, do you think Grandpa JimBob is going to be around to help with every barn raising, house clearing out project? No wonder the older ones need reprogramming. They see the hypocrisy. It's just take and take and take and some of the girls appear to be done. Someday the TLC gravy train will stop and the Christian equivalent of karma will take hold. What is the saying, the chickens will come home to roost.

If one of her children needed help, Gramma Michelle would just send on of the remainding SAHD's. I doubt that she would lift a finger.

I see a career as "cherish Matriarch" rather than hands-on anything.....unless the cameras are rolling. Honestly, I think she feels she's "done her day" already just birthing all 19.

What I want to see is how long Grandma hangs on at the house after the show ends.

Agreed. I don't know if the current Grandma Duggar stayed with them out of any sense of duty. I think at first, it was just easier for her to care for Grandpa with others around and she probably didn't want to be alone when he was sick and dying. Now that he's gone, they're all she's got aside from Deana and Amy. I think she just stays because she doesn't want to be lonely but that's just my opinion.

I can't see Boob or DQ having the compassion that Mary seems to have. She helps out a lot (probably more than we see on the show) and just seems like somone who is giving, perhaps to a fault. Boob and DQ take advantage of her. Michelle would spend her golden years looking out for Michelle.

I agree. She's gonna sit in the best chair in the house and expect to be catered to.

Whoever has the most kids (joshie) will get the big house. Im guessing the girls will build compounds on the land so they can help eachother with their broods. Michelle will stay in a smaller house they build on the land so she can be close to all her kids. Eventually they will have their own zip code.

Yeah that. After all how else will Hannie- Jordyn will learn to have a servant's heart unless they're being farmed out to do work for their male brothers and their neices/nephews?

The girls move to the husbands family like Anna did.

But they are the DUGGARS. It would be too hard to film! I'm sure the girls will stay local.

I can easily see one of the daughters (or possibly sons) just staying in that house when they get married, and that child would have kid after kid while Michelle would continue to rule the roost and "delegate" and simply maintain her current position. It will start off with the excuse that the family simply needs her and she can't leave right away even though she's married. Michelle seems extremely controlling so this would have to be a child who has a completely broken will.

Then they have to find a suitable, patriarchical young guy ATI/VF dude who wants his wife and future family in the media,be willing to give up whatever employment he has and move from his family and be willing to cater in certain ways to the viewing public.Good luck with that,JB.

Are there any eligible "of dougies" out there? Seems like the perfect marriage!

I think people like the Botkins and Phillips would look down on the barbecued Tuna eating, redneck water slide Duggars.Maybe Jessa would work for them-I can imagine her playing lady of the manor and wanting to forget where she came from.

I don't think Voldebot would give one of his slaves/daughters to somebody who earns money by having a towing company or something like that. They rather wait for prince charming until their 50s!

Exactly what I was thinking. Grandma only had two; she's 70 and should be good for another 10 years before Jill takes over and becomes Granny to younger grandduggars who will come to the compound and wonder who is the old lady in the recliner clutching a can of Aqua Net in her bony fingers.

Yup. Once she's closed up shop, she's officially retired. From everything except servicing Boob. Not like she remembers what an orgasm is, if she ever had them at all. With the cavern she must have, it's amazing that Boob's swimmers have been able to swim upstream and not need a roadmap to figure out where to go.

Ever read about the 'dowager houses' in big estates etc.? They'll build one on the compound - but Michelle won't be living in it. They'll move in the family with the most kids, and it will be attached to the main house so that Michelle can summon a minion at the press of a button with the intercom. They'll build similar houses all around the compound, and the families will take shifts living in the dowager house. Michelle's favorite phrase will be "I raised my children - that's 19 kids (unless she gets the much-coveted #20), and yes, I delivered every one of them! - so my tour of duty is over!" That was one of my mom's favorite lines, but with her, it was a joke. It won't be for Michelle, who will be rambling about her right to enjoy this season of her life, when she isn't rocking in a corner, sucking her gums, and ranting "I delivered... every... single... ONE!" to every poor sucker who happens to be within earshot.

Until good old senility kicks in. Then, they'll put her in a nursing home, or just stick her on an ice floe with a case of Aqua Net, and push her out to sea.

Don't you think she may see herself as an older Elsie Dinsmore (as in the 'Grandma Elsie era of Elsie books?). Still beautiful, still passive, still queening it over the family, still devotedly served, particularly by her daughters, still uncritically worshipped and adored, particularly by her sons?

Grandma Elsie was a widow tho' - no room for JB in that scenario!

yes, they do have an intercom!

i think that by the time michelle is in her 60s (earlier, really), there will already be a whole brood of female grandchildren who are buddies to the ones that come after.

      Stupid loneliness!
Kid 1 went back to college (yeah! But sad foe me, she stayed with me all summer. It was nice to start a new phase in our mother/daughter relationship)
Zero prospects on dates. (Not that I have tried online dating, scared of that but I have reached put to a new group at church, etc.
I asked a friend to go to dinner the other night so I wasn't eating alone, again. The friend had plans, all my friends always have plans. I see stuff on social media, I'm never invited. I'm single, I'm the 3rd or 5th wheel.
My one parent friend at kid 2's fall sport won't be there because their daughter made varsity (Yeah for her!!! Seriously happy for her. Sad for me for another sport I basically sit alone, did that majority of spring and summer sporting events.)
And now I'm crying as my mom told me 2 different funny stores that former teachers remembered about my twin. Both stories were about how they got a crack out of my twin's antics (my parents went to a funeral today and saw former colleagues). Teachers remember me (after all I was a twin and teachers' kid) but none would have memorable stories of me.
      I feel invisible.
Don't worry, this will pass,  it always does. I just need a pity party for a few days. I'm not in anyway going to harm myself. As lonely as I am, I have a very full life I (usually) love. I just needed to vent and cry for a moment.
If you are still reading this, thanks Fjer. 😊

Absolutely awful about the fires on Maui. In 2019, I stayed in Lahaina. I liked to sit on the sea wall, which is the only structure left now, and watch the water. People are receiving help, but many had to leave pets. Please donate to the Maui Humane Society, which is leading efforts to find, treat, and reunite pets.
