Non-Reversal Anna's baby shower post is up!

There are no guests present who are in the same age category as NR Anna or the Maxi adult children.

Maybe they didn't pass muster, or they know better than to show up and then be on that blog or maybe Maxwells are the only adult children in the neighbourhood, or maybe they are away at real school or at work. Or maybe Steve edited them out.

(Tradition here is for either very close friends or family to host showers. Perhaps is a regional difference?)

I guess it might be a regional difference. As I mentioned before, I've been to several showers hosted by family. I've never thought it would be rude for family to host I went to few workplace showers years ago and I've been to a few small friends only showers. I know some women who have 2 or 3 showers. I have one friend who had a shower thrown for her by her husband's side of the family after her baby was born, before that the nursing home that she worked at gave her shower, and she also had a shower thrown by her mom and close friends.

Meanwhile I'm hoping Melanie can have her own party, if she wants one. As others said she probably has all the BabyCrud she needs as this is Baby #3, but just a regular party would be nice.

I've no sense of fashion, I don't mind Anna's jumper.

I would like to see Melanie's family pictured sometime - you'd think a few of them would stop by for a visit (perhaps they do, and they just never show up on the blog). The blog would be a lot more effective if the Maxwells didn't seem so stiff and alien, and one way to appear more human would be to have some non-family-member recurring characters. NAME some people! Use pseudonyms if you want, but let's hear about some people who are more than just "random pious boy at our shows" "random cute girl listening adoringly to our show" etc etc.

Their kitchen is huge. I will admit some jealousy here.

"Mrs. L" looked to be about as pregnant as NR Anna, so she is, at least, still in her fertile years. Probably closer to Sarah's age in the spectrum though (but isn't NRAnna in her mid-20's herself?).

well anyway the problem is not with age, but the fact that NR Anna does not have friends because friends are such a bad thing, but she inherited family "friends" that she does not really know. I must say I think baby showers are to get to see your close friends and those a little less close and have a good time together before you end up nesting and driving or coming for half an hour or an hour is not worth it.

It does not mean much... my friend had 3 kids, carried each of them differently. A girl super high, a girl in the front, and a boy super low (and painful)

Not to hijack but I have quick question- didn't the Maxwell's used to follow Gothard and ATI/BLP rhetoric? If so, when did they break away and why? Because I thought Gothard followers were big on their "countenance" and doing their hair pretty/wearing makeup etc., to draw the eyes of others up to their face instead of their body. And the Maxwell family appears to do the exact opposite- all I can see is their unfortunate clothing choices. If the girls/women just wore a little bit of makeup and styled their hair a smidge, they would be so much prettier. I've noticed Sarah wearing more makeup recently and she looks so cute sometimes. I guess I was wondering if their break from Gothard had anything to do with how women should dress, if they had some kind of moral opposition to looking one's best while being nun-like modest, or if Steven just couldn't handle another man telling his family what to do. Either way, it's unfortunate, because NR Anna could be really cute if someone taught her what to do with her hair (I have similar-esque hair and it can be a pain in the ass, but when done right, it's very pretty), how to put on a little makeup to enhance what's there- maybe just some powder to even her out, mascara and a little lip gloss- and give her some floor length dresses that don't look like denim potato sacks. I swear she used to wear that dress before she was pregnant!

I believe it was stated at one point that NR Anna and Christopher were not finding out the gender.

I think NR Anna looks really beautiful. Her hair is a bit fuzzy, but it's nice to see it down. And I like her jumper -- I wore things like that when I was pregnant, the empire waist belt-type stuff. Comfy! Honestly, that shirt Melanie is wearing is a hideous tent. Which is surprising because she usually has better fashion sense than any of the Maxwells.

And I think it's really nice that older women attend baby showers. They often have great advice from their own experiences and they tend to know what is practical in terms of gifts. I liked having my mom's friends at my baby showers -- it helped me connect a bit better to them after they had sort of watched me grow up.

I'm sure Melanie will have some kind of shower, but NR Anna deserved for this to be HER day. God knows her wedding day wasn't about her.

NR Anna doesn't look very big- when is their baby due?

Well, they announced that she was 8 weeks pregnant on October 10. Without knowing if she was exactly 8 weeks on that day, I think that she's due in just a few weeks - if you look at a due date calculator, using 8 weeks on Oct 10, she would be due around May 20, give or take of course.

I only know that because I found out that I was pregnant not long after and had an obsession with due date calculators for awhile, lol :)

Also, in the photo of Gigi, NR Anna, and Anna, there is something in the background next to the piano that looks like a tree that has lost its limbs. What the hell is that?

And, Sarah curled her hair. And Reversal Anna seems to be using a flat iron with her (gasp!) layered hair. I hope that thing doesn't become an idol.

Perhaps Anna's friends weren't invited since the party was organized by the Maxwells? Or maybe a couple weeks ago when she was unable to attned some Maxwell event because they were in AK they were attending a shower that somebody threw for her out there with her friends and family.

It's sad to me it looks like NR Anna's mom wasn't there. It's Anna's first baby and her mom's first grandchild. My mom flew in from out of state to attend my first baby shower. I guess maybe she will come once the baby is born -- maybe just too expensive to fly out twice in such a short timeframe. I can't imagine missing something like that for my own first grandchild.

One thing that struck me is, all of the women, not just Maxwells, are wearing below the knee skirts. I'd never fit in to that neighborhood. I'd show up in shorts if the weather was warm, and probably be escorted out before the shower began. (Preferably by John).

Aside from the fact that it's rude for family members to host a shower, I'd be more than a little annoyed if I went to a baby shower and found myself listening to a sermon.

At least among the people I know, it's considered "tacky" for the pregnant woman or her parents/siblings to host a shower, but it's totally cool for in-laws, extended family, or friends to host. Same goes for bridal showers.

I think it's really sweet that they threw her a shower and actually had some fun (fun for them, anyway...). :?

I'm not surprised that there weren't a lot of young women at the shower. Has NR Anna been married to Chris for very long? I'm guessing her close friends and family don't live anywhere nearby, and without work or any outside socializing, I'd imagine she hasn't made very many new friends. I'm also not surprised that the unmarried Maxwell girls don't have any friends their own age, as depressing as that is. Terri can have friends, though! It's sad how isolated these families are. :|

As for her outfit, I'm 13 weeks pregnant and I already wish I could live in yoga pants (though I still have to wear suits and nice dresses for work every day- boo). I know that it will be way worse when I am in my third trimester. I don't fault any pregnant woman for wearing whatever is comfortable (and NR Anna doesn't even have the yoga pants option!!!). Also, while I plan to wear some sort of cute maternity dress to a couple weddings this summer, I can't imagine having to sew it myself! I don't know a lot about sewing, but I'd think making maternity clothes would be a major pain. Her jumper is not what I would choose to wear, but I think she looks lovely and glowing by Maxwell standards. ;)
