Oklahoma Personhood Measure Struck Down By Supreme Court

I am beyond thrilled that this was a unanimous decision. In reading more about the decision, I don't see a way forward for the Personhood "movement". In 1992, the court rejected an attempt to use the initiative petition process to ban abortion in 1992, ruling that the process could not be used to curtail rights secured to women by the U.S. Constitution, so any success they may have with putting it on state ballots don't appear to have a pathway forward, either.

I hope I'm reading this right.

(I am not minimizing the seriousness of this type of legislation in any way).

I do wonder if a lot of this type of legislation at the local and state levels is politicians pandering to gain the one-issue-everything-is-black-and-white-salvation-through-politics voters. And whether they know from the beginning that the supreme court will strike it down, but having sponsored or voted for it, they can use that to "prove" that they are "pro life".

Call me very skeptical about politics and politicians.

Please note that the OKLAHOMA SUPREME COURT ruled on this measure. I'm sure it will be appealed to the national Supremes. We've still a long way to go.
