Happy 30th birthday to the Charter of Rights

Unlike the US Constitution, the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms was only passed in 1982.

I remember being really excited to learn about it in law class in high school, since it was so new, and learning about some of the earliest landmark cases as they were being decided.

Since these include the decisions striking down the abortion law and recognizing same-sex marriage, I figured FJers would be interested.
