Take that Divorce! Or, my kids better not EVER divorce!

Being on the autism spectrum is not a license to be an asshole and get away with it, and the people I know who have autism would kick my ass if I "had sympathy for them" because of it. That's patronizing. A lot of people are not neurotypical. It doesn't make them better or worse, just different. And still responsible for their actions particularly if they are a thirty year old grown ass adult.

**ETA: fluttershies is too quick for me.

THIS.

I have severe unmedicated (pregnancy and nursing, can't afford formula and i'm one of those lucky women that my boobs work a little TOO well) with ADHD and sensory issues, and I often have trouble with "reading" people and social cues and I inadvertently offend people all the damn time. For which once I'm aware I do my best to apologize and make it better.

Why include the Old Testament in the first place, then? And that still doesn't address the fact that at one point in time, God supposedly DID sanction rape, genocide, and slavery. Does God change?

Beats me. I wasn't there when the Bible was assembled, so I can't really tell you what the rationale behind the inclusion of the OT, besides the historical perspective. Personally, absent any other logical reason for the inclusion, I take it for it's historical perspective and knowledge, rather than an iron clad "Do this or be smote" rulebook.

A far as "sanctioning" things, let us not forget that the Bible was written by fallible human beings, who had their own perspectives on things. Did Good sanction rape, or did the people who wrote those passages think that He should? The more I read fundie blogs, the more I imagine God doing a lot of face palms at some of the hatred and nonsense being done in His name. Because their hatred, bigotry and intolerance is claimed to be sanctioned by God as well.

We're also reading the writings of people who had no knowledge of science and had no idea that static electricity between clouds causes bolts of electricity to shoot from the sky. To them, it was God and he must be pissed off, even if it was just shit happening. While I do believe that things often happen for a reason, I also believe that sometimes things happen simply because they happen.

I refuse to state that I'm the end all, be all authority on what God wants, which is why I'd never give anyone any shit for their choices in life. If my friend wants to divorce, due to unhappiness, more power to them. I wouldn't personally do it myself, but I'll support them in their choices, because they're my friend and I care about them. I've been the escort for several friends who wanted an abortion and I refuse to judge them for their choices, even if it's not a choice that I would make for myself. If they're close enough to me to ask me to do something like that, I love them a lot more than I love religious dogma. I believe that loving others and being of service to others is one of the most important things we can do in this world.

Not gonna lie, I'm still voting spectrum placement and/or complete lack of self awareness.

Personally, I'm leaning towards general jackassery rather than a spectrum diagnosis.

Thanks to those who stomped out the bullshit "I'd hope you'd have sympathy" argument, that shit just pisses me off.

In all total seriousness I am a complete and total atheist. I have never been baptized nor even married. I live an extremely secular life. My morality is very shaky ;) . I live my life based upon absolutely no religious guidelines nor dogma whatsoever. I once went to a church service as a child, but otherwise I have only visited a church as a tourist in Europe (where I currently live). I assure all of you I am not a fundie. I am 30 years old, female, and I live alone. Last night i went out and drank with some guy I am not even related to!

I knew it! I should have put money on it. I was going to ask what year you were born but I didn't want to get off topic.

You are the perfect example of someone caught between the shift between generations in terms of the way you're seeking to learn (even if you're not genuine, which is what I suspect). A sociologist's dream. Your approach to getting information is so caught up in the black and white. This could be an interesting epistemology discussion.

Tell me. When you hear the word "should", is it neutral or relative? If I say to you "the dog should obey its master", what is your first thought?

People, I am NOT a troll. I had some honest questions. I was hoping those questions would bring about a deeper dialogue about vows and religion in general. Apparently I thought wrong. I am a bit shocked that so many of you think I am trolling. I thought my questions were perfectly legitimate and reasonable. In what way weren't they? I thought my questions about the meaning of a vow were quite good. This all started because we thought that fundie lady's interpretation of the meaning of a vow was crazy. I merely wanted to examine if that was really so. You think I am a fundie or a troll but I assure all of you I am not. The more I got into this topic, the more interested I became. I still am fascinated by the concept of a vow as it relates to Christianity. Does that not interest any of you at all? I personally find it interesting. I always have lots of questions and so I seek lots of different answers. Many of you have provided some great answers. Let me be clear: I do not for one second think any of you is "obligated' to provide an answer. Not in the least. I asked those questions in the hope I could get enough answers that I might be able to understand the issue. The original issue was vows and what they are and what they mean. I still do not fully understand it. Many of you have blown me off as a troll for this. Okay...I guess that would mean that I am just fucking with everyone because the answer to this question is just so totally obvious. Well it is not obvious to me and that is why I asked. I asked because I thought if I got enough diverse answers I could work out a general understanding as to what a vow is. I do not personally make vows. I swore an oath once for career purposes but it made me feel all icky inside. I guess that is why I am fascinated by how many people make Christian marriage vows all the time. It seems to me like a really big deal. But, like I said, I am not Christian, so maybe I just don't understand it. That is why I asked to many damn questions. I did not understand it and all the answers made it make less sense to me, not more.

If you want to discuss vows in Christianity, go start a thread and ask opinions.

I agreeded with you at first, if you remember. Because saying that abused women can't leave their husbands is consistant with the Bible so the original crazy blogger was taking a biblical approach. But you just kept going on and on and on about wanting clear answers after being told THERE ARE NO FUCKING CLEAR ANSWERS WITH CHRISTIANITY. No one can give you an answer to most of your questions because there are so many different answers. If you really want to learn more go google it or use the search button here to learn more. If I have questions, that is what I do.
