Here’s the scenario: a very high-profile Republican is asked a question by a female constituent. He gives his non-answer and when pressed for a better answer, he becomes condescending and contemptuous.

Howell then said, “I guess I’m not speaking in little enough words for you to understand.â€

She responded (as someone “oohâ€ed in the background), “I’m a smart girl, actually I went to the University of Virginia. I benefitted from public education in Virginia. I think words with multiple syllables will be just fine.â€

Your statement would make sense if Republicans believed that women should have the right to vote. But I'm pretty sure if they think we're too stupid to handle our sexuality and use big words we're too stupid to vote.

You assume it's just Republican men who think women aren't as smart as they are? I had a very liberal (Hillary Clinton for President sticker before the 2008 election year) principal who I was discussing a class situation with and he actually came back with something very similar as this man.

"I don't think you have any understanding of math and numbers. I must not be speaking clearly enough for you understand." (Something close to that. I can't possibly remember the exact words since it's been about six years since the incident).

I understood him just fine. Money was more important than anything and he was lying through his teeth telling me I wasn't allowed to change a class because I'd already taken a similar class before.

I do remember him saying something along the line of me not understanding math and that he was speaking too formal for a high schooler like myself to understand. I felt he was being really condensending and I did think he said those things because I was young woman. I do believe he never would have said that if I was a young man instead. I also believe he wouldn't have even argued numbers to his precious baseball and football players.

Men, both liberal and conservative, can be assholes toward woman thinking they are still above them.

Condescension comes from all sides, I agree. I think it's more a young woman/old man thing, though.

I want to see the rest of the video, what he actually said. She was needling him good on whether it was true or not, and he wasn't willing to admit it he was wrong about it not being true. I want to see what happened next. Did he admit he was wrong?
