This woman is stimulated visually. I do think some romance novels are graphic enough to be on par with written porn, but rom-coms aren't porn. Boy bands are girl porn, and those music videos are a lot less wholesome than my parents assumed they were. There's one of the Backstreet Boys with naked upper bodies and water streaming over them, but I guess it's not seen as sexual by parents because there's no dick showing. I'm so sick of the myth that women don't get stimulated by the visual. IMO, it's a way for lazy men to feel entitled to a hawt woman without ever making any effort on their own appearance.

Yesterday, reading about y'all's non-porn porn (there has to be a better term), I finally figured out my own, non-porn porn (seriously, a better term now). Cookbooks, new, old, although I prefer old. Because we're still young (don't know how many kids we'll have yet, if we'll be here forever, etc.) and, more importantly, live in the NYC metro area :lol: There is nooo way in hell we could afford to build anywhere convenient to the transit and that's where we need to live (to avoid Mr. Burps needing to drive 3-4 hours per day with traffic). Most of the new builds I've seen are at least a drive to the train station and we'd like to keep it a walk to save money/gas/time. Yeah, picky. :P We're looking in our current area and will probably end up with a town house which is a bit meh in my book, but the price is right and they're much, much newer than the single family homes (which are all boxy inside and I like an open floor plan; this is mine now).

My dream is to build a house one day, but it may never happen with how frequently we end up living in areas that have mega high costs of living.

I'm into house porn, too. I'll kill hours on Redfin looking at real estate listings. I like square, solid, comfortable houses--saltboxes, Cape Cods, center-hall colonials, and four-over-fours--with lots of natural daylight. I also like some Spanish colonial/Monterey-style houses (I grew up in California, so that's to be expected). Most of my favorite houses were built between 1900 and 1925-30. I've never liked romance movies or books. As a teenager, I bought romance books for the sex parts. The plot and characters didn't matter a bit to me, I just wanted to read about sex. A romance novel that was clean wouldn't have done anything for me.

You can't protect yourself from desires. It doesn't work. If you refuse to read certain books, something else will get you going.

Yeah, I hate rom-coms and romance novels and most girls' comics myself - give me a suspense thriller/mystery/military intrigue/dark science fiction story any day.

But I will happily read sex scenes or look up sex pictures (not necessarily things on actual "porn" sites either) or read posts about sex when I'm in the mood for it, and have a wank, and not feel like there's anything wrong with it.

I can't imagine living life such that I had to be so careful all the time never to let my thoughts stray toward sex ever, because exactly as you say SOMETHING is going to make you want it, it's a physical drive we have, and if you spend all your time trying to avoid the elephant in the room you won't have any energy left for getting anything done.

Doesn't make me appreciate my husband any less, and anyway our relationship is more than just sex.
