I thought that this thread was going to be about female porn stars.

Maybe it’s a stretch to compare chick flicks and romance novels to porn. Or maybe not. Beth Spraul believes that whereas porn targets men visually, the lies told to women are introduced emotionally. She says that things like chick flicks and ‘chick-lit’ “take a good gift from God [romance, relational intimacy] that women are created to desire, and distort it…And just like men buy into the lies of pornography, women who believe their husbands and marriages should always be like what they see on the screen will be sinfully dissatisfied with God’s good gift to them of a ‘normal’ husband and marriage.â€

I've never liked romance movies or books. As a teenager, I bought romance books for the sex parts. The plot and characters didn't matter a bit to me, I just wanted to read about sex. A romance novel that was clean wouldn't have done anything for me.

You can't protect yourself from desires. It doesn't work. If you refuse to read certain books, something else will get you going.

When I read the title i also thought of what is your porn. (That is not really porn.)

My husband is a model railroader and will spend hours reading forums and websites where trains and train pictures are prominent. I call it Train Porn. He also has a "Track Dealer" who supplies him with train related information and freebies.

My friend does the same with mountain biking. Aka... Bike Porn.

My weakness is Cakes, I will always pause to look at a picture of a well done cake or other baked good. Cake Porn!

I am accused of indulging in dog porn (not dogs getting it on, but reading dog rescue site blogs and wanting to adopt every new dog that shows up at our local rescue here).

What's going on in her relationship that she's chronically dissatisfied with it? That just screams "big problems" or even "abusive spouse!" to me.

This gets repeated a lot in the emotional purity movement.

Of course it perpetuates stereotypes that women aren't as visual as men in what they find arousing and that men want sex, but women want love and romance. Just another way of delegitimising female sexuality.

Also, can't be setting those expectations too high. Nothing romantic about some stranger talking to your dad.

You, too? Okay, maybe not EVERY dog. I also have a cat, so cat-agressive dogs are out, and I'm not active enough for the really high energy breeds, like border collies and cattle dogs, but I have to be careful looking at those sites, because I find myself going "Sure, I only have a one bedroom apartment, but I could probably manage one more...."

Both hubs and I take part in Cat Porn. Our apartment building only allows one pet per household, but that doesn't stop us from looking at Petfinder and other sites and wishing we could adopt the cats we see.

All I gotta say is these women lead really boring lives if they can't even enjoy a good chick flick or a romance novel.

For my husband it's anything to do with motorbikes. I often catch him online late in the evening, drooling over pics of Honda parts on eBay.

My girl porn is women's fiction (slightly older demographic than chick lit--think Rosamund Pilcher or Maeve Binchy), magazines, and British television (Downton Abbey anyone? )

Do you struggle with girl porn? Are you exposing yourself to romantic content (movies, TV, books, music, conversation) that leaves you dissatisfied? Pulling you further away from your husband instead of closer to him? Causing you to fantasize or masturbate? Doesn’t matter if you’re single, married, or a mom. The Enemy uses the same tricks.

I was under the impression that masturbation wasn't allowed/acknowledged. (I'm not even gonna go there on the legitimacy and even necessity of fantasy and/or masturbation for either gender)

I put this in the comments section. Bet it doesn't stay up long.

"Well, I resisted the suggestion by my husband that we should watch Jane Eyre together. When I finally submitted, I realized after our incredible lovemaking following that we both adore our girl porn. Wouldn't give it up for some narrow minded notion that it isn't fulfilling or "real" love. Let me tell ya'... "

These people are aware that movies and books are fiction, right? If "girl porn" left you disappointed in your real life, it's because you have a hard time separating reality from fantasy. Work on that and stop blaming chick flicks for your tenuous grasp on reality.

I like girl porn too! As in women with other women enjoying themselves. That isn't what this thread is about? Damn!

I used to sneak my dad's girlie mags and vividly recall the day I discovered internet porn when I got my first computer at 15. Oh, happy day!

These people are ridiculous, per usual.

Heirloom seed catalogs, and fashion plates from the 1800s...

I honestly don't get porn porn. I've got a MUCH more vivid imagination than that!

When I see ads for condos and 55+ housing communities, I sometimes imagine what it would be like to live in the featured properties. The work island in the kitchen! The walk-in closets! But I don't think there's anything wrong with this. I have no intention of moving, and I'm nowhere near 55.

On the other hand, here's some genuine porn stars talking about our favorite candidate:

Oh, there's some pretty imaginative porn out there, if you know where to look. I don't like the way most mainstream porn portrays women, especially women on women action. It's usually 2 or more women with a guy watching or some idea that it's all done to benefit some guy. Gross. So, one has to look for alternative sources. Bless ye, oh mighty internet! There's good, imaginative, straight porn out there too, or so I'm told.

My non-porn porn would be yarn. Ooooh, look at the way it shimmers! Mmmm.

I love craft porn, in particular anything to do with yarn, spinning, crochet, knitting. Sewing porn does it for me too.

Back to the OP; I don't like romance novels, never have. I don't see how they could possibly be considered as a porn. I find them sad and very unrealistic - which I suppose goes for sex porn too. I don't consider them to be the same though. Men (and women, me included at times) watch porn because it can increase the sexual experience. Hubby and I watch porn together occasionally. Men who watch porn alone usually do it to enhance their solo sexual experience (they watch, they wank). Reading a romance novel isn't the same thing; for people who enjoy those it is escapism.

I LOVED that comment! So great you posted here, too. I was cheering for whoever posted that. :happy-jumpeveryone:
