I only remember having fire and tornado drills. I guess that's because I graduated in the 80s.

Tornado, lockdown and fire drills were done in every public school I've gone to. They weren't to elicit unthinking, unquestioning obedience, they were to prepare students for emergency situations...

The thing is, though, that TTH seems not to get, is that these are potentially life and death situations where unquestioning obedience actually is required.

I had to have this discussion with my kids last weekend--they have to stay quiet when the sirens go off so the adults can listen to the TV/radio.
